A good adaptation of Unfortunate Events would have to be a Michel Gondry movie or something. The book's use of cruelty, obsession, and sudden violence is almost Lynchian.

So far it looks like a very muted Wes Anderson. I'm unfamiliar with the source material and never saw the movie from a decade ago.
