There's two awful parts to it. For one thing the majority of rings are random drops so you'd have to grind gasha nuts and Maple encounters to get them. The other part is that you get certain rings that are only available in linked games but are also exclusive to one game, which means you have to play through each game twice linking them in both orders. It's extremely stupid and totally not worth it.

You can do 99% of that stuff through passwords if you really want to.

Some of the rings are in fixed locations, some are random drops from gacha seeds, some are specific to either game and/or the linked quest from either game, one can only be obtained by playing on a GBA. If you regularly plant and check your gacha seeds over the course of both games you'll get most of them without much hassle but it's still tedious.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/01/17/nintendo-explains-differences-between-switch-wii-u-versions-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild

quote:

In a statement provided to IGN, Nintendo explained the following “key facts” about each version:

Both launch on the same day, March 3.
Both have a frame rate of 30fps.
Both versions of the game offer the same content.
On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.
The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game’s Open-Air feel.
The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.
Some icons, such as onscreen buttons, differ between the two versions.
A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available.

The only information that seems new is about the sound. I wonder if the difference will actually be noticeable.

Someone also translated text from the map. It gives a rough backstory, the details of which most of us have already figured out. But I'll put it in spoiler tags just in case:

“Hylians pass stories of a destined time long past, where multiple races lived and worked together in harmony. The Sheikah Tribe’s blue aura breathed through the land, and this mutual prosperity continued, until a cataclysmic disaster struck. The hero and the princess attempted in vain to seal the terror, which became known as the Calamity Ganon. Divine Beasts awoke from four directions, and deployed a mechanical army which made the king and his people fearful. They fractured Ganon’s power and sealed him… But the Sheikah were banished from the land ever since.”

Sounds like this game is definitely in the defeated timeline. Though that time line doesn't make any sense to me and it just seems like it was created just to shove all the games that don't fit in the story around OoT. The child and adult timelines make sense because the adult one goes on without the hero of time. The child timeline features the hero of time getting to live out his life normally. The defeated timeline implies that if the player fails to defeat Ganon in OoT, this other timeline is spawned. But that would mean that any game where you die at any point, a new timeline spawns off that.

I hope this means that the difference in color saturation that you can see between the E3 Wii U demo and the much more recent Switch demo aren't there anymore. I mean, that E3 demo is from months ago so the comparison between that and the Switch one is already tough to make, but I'm guessing we're not going to see any more Wii U footage until the game's out. I can't imagine color saturation would be extra-taxing on the hardware (but I also don't know poo poo about graphics rendering so maybe it is?) so while I can see fewer objects on screen, shorter draw distances, and lower resolution being necessary for the Wii U, I'm not sure why "all the colors are washed out" would need to be the case, too.

MokBa

If you see something suspicious, bomb it!

Yeah, those comparison videos don't really make much sense to me, but I don't know a lot about hardware. Those color differences more likely stem from the differences in build after a year of development. Even still, I'm shelling out for the Switch because I no longer have a Wii U and being able to gently caress around in Hyrule on a portable system is very appealing. I don't live alone anymore so I don't always have access to the TV.

There's definitely been an evolution in art style, the colours look way more vivid in recent demos. I expect Wii U performance to be a bit behind Switch, but not hugely so. 720p v 900p is about what I'd expect.

So I'm interpreting this as the hero and the princess's inability to stop Ganon essentially caused the goddesses to act by awakening these divine beasts and their robo army to defeat him. This somehow pissed off the king or the goddesses who banished the sheikah in retaliation and I'm going to infer the enemies we've seen with the upside down masks are a pissed off splinter group of sheikah that are trying to return to Hyrule?

Yeah, I hope the color saturation is an evolution of the art style over the past 7-ish months of development and not a difference between the Wii U and Switch versions. That's really my only concern when it comes to playing BotW on the Wii U instead of the Switch. I can live with 720p instead of 900p (not nearly as big of a difference as 720p vs. 1080p) and the decreased environment detail if it means I'm not dropping $300 on a console I'll only want one game on for like 6 months probably.

I believe it will simply save and overwrite the number of hearts for whenever you clear each set of levels, so if you finish floor 10 with 8 hearts but then finish floor 20 with 4 hearts the 4 hearts overrides the 8. The simplest way seems to be getting the 20 hearts in the game, beating the first few levels of the Cave of Shadows, then saving to the amiibo.

I 100% games that have some kind of worthwhile reward for doing so, like the Climax Bangles in Bayonetta. The only game I've ever 100 percent completed for the hell of it was Metroid Prime, and that was more me looking for all the hidden lore and exploring the world than actually consciously trying to 100%.

So yeah, I generally don't 100% Zelda games. I think I fully completed Link's Awakening, though that happened more from boredom and took several years due to it being the only game I could play at my grandparents house. Generally speaking, the only thing Zelda side quests have to offer is Heart Pieces, and I can think of no more underwhelming reward than a fourth of more health I don't need (a fifth in Twilight Princess, which, incidentally, can gently caress right off :argh:).

I saw in an interview that they broke with a lot of Zelda traditions in BotW. I hope endless heart pieces is one of them. Give me something cool to quest for, damnit!

That's one thing I don't like about Skyward Sword. There are so many large chests in the game. Every time I see one, I think "Oh man, I'm about to get the item for this dungeon, or at least the map." Then it's a monster claw. I already have 10, but sure, I'll take another one I guess.

Funnily enough although this is true, after the cutscene where you retrieve the Sword it gets added back to your inventory and automatically equipped even if you didn't have it in the first place.

This is how its possible to beat the game as child link even though you can't normally equip the MS.

It can indeed gently caress right off, but I found Majora's Mask the most egregious. I have clinical OCD and am a 100% freak (see my LttP post earlier where I spent two weeks looking for a quarter-heart), and that game had 52 loving heart bits. Seriously?

Someone made a French sequel to LttP that looks really great, and I found out today that it has 32 heart pieces. That's already pushing it, as far as I see it.

It saves the highest heart count, not the deepest progress.

I grabbed all the heart pieces and containers before even trying the amiibo pit, saved 20 hearts left on the 6th floor. Managed to finish amiibo pit at a later point with 20 hearts thanks to some amiibo assistance, and I don't think even that overwrote 6F 20 hearts save.

Majora's Mask does have a shitload of heart pieces, but the 3D version tracks every heart piece, stray fairy, and side-quest unlike the N64 version. If your fine with some archery challenges and dodgy platforming then MM is pretty easy to master. You can skip fishing entirely since there is no reward and it didn't exist in the original version either.
