I know you are being facetious, but Netherrealms would make ALL THE MONEY if they did that. Injustice wasn't super popular with the Animu dork crowd, at least in my area, and I know for a fact that if they could beat up Superman with Goku they would snap it up.

Super Dragon Ball Z was a PS2/arcade game that was pretty drat good surprisingly. I didn't get the chance to play it until NEC but it was a good time. Not many characters though.

I had an Action Replay on my PSX and I used to buy all the DBZ fighting games from the import store in the mall, my favorite one was Final Bout where flying was more freeform than just grounded/aerial planes and you could beam crash, it was a hoot.

im taking the bait :]

(these are all pre-pokemon)

I think its good to start with the regular GB version of Tetris since its basically a classic at this point, very memorable and one of the best selling games ever and on the GB
Dr. Mario, Mario Picross and other puzzley games as well came out pre-pokemon
Final Fantasy Adventure (aka Seiken Densetsu gb game)
Castlevania I and II for GB
Kirby's Dream Land 1 and 2
Super Mario Land 1 and 2
Donkey Kong (aka DK94, one of the best games for the GB by far, where mario 64 gets his moves from)
Wario Land
and Metroid II

I hope you enjoyed this list

edit: oh also heres this cool metroid 2 remake if you forgot about metroid 2 this is worth checking out http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/

While many people believe its a Mario, Smash is actually derived from the Kirby games, which had their start on the Game Boy handheld console.

Yo GBA2 was some pretty awesome stuff. Though our group did need to make a gentleman's agreement not to use any of the top row boss characters. It had a bunch of cool sub systems in it like the I-field/dodge mechanics(sidestepping attacks vs super armoring though them), Beam properties(all beams count as projectiles even if it's part of a melee attack), and funnels.(delayable stored fireballs that can be used any time even if you are mid attack animation or even in knockdown).
