The fact is, I strongly disbelieve that Tobbs is a hidden backup doctor, and I can't see any town motivation for him to lie about it.

there is only one hell:
the one we live in now
It took five days and five nights before the entire expedition had been gutted from the inside-out. On the dawn of the sixth day, two more people were killed in the night, one with a crossbow bolt to the neck, another stabbed with what the expedition as a whole would later discover was an old Livireen dagger: an artifact of the personal collection of Dr. Kamila Przmysłava, the late Dr. Pereau's most trusted colleague.

:s: CapitalistPig, Dr. Basile Thisbain, Assistant (town-aligned vanilla), was shot with a crossbow night 5. :s:
:s: IllegallySober, Murna, Chandler (town-aligned jailor), was stabbed to death night 5. :s:

With the numbers finally in her favor, "Kayprez" assembled her team together, united for the first time, mere moments after dawn. The five went from tent to tent and killed the three remaining members of the party who weren't traitors, slitting their throats and shooting crossbow bolts into their chests and stabbing them too for good measure.

:zombie:
chaoslord, Eoghan, Digger (town-aligned visitor);
Chic Trombone, Vibianus, Assistant (town-aligned vanilla); and
TMMadman, Julien Bois, Cartographer (town-aligned tracker watcher)...
...were endgamed.

And so, for the first time in days - months, maybe even years - Kamila enjoyed a refreshing morning breakfast of eggs and coffee without ever thinking of her mentor. She watched the sun slowly rise further and further over the wide horizon, and for brief moments she could see harder crystals of salt glimmer in the light. This desolate place may be beyond the edges of civilization where no plant or green thing could ever hope to grow, but it still holds a certain beauty to it. And, it being the site of her liberation, the beginning of her real life, her triumph over evil, her glorious resurrection; well, that helps raise her impression of this place, too.
Later that morning she wrote herself a Letter of Recommendation and forged Dr. Pereau's signature, completing her primary goal for this horror show she created. That afternoon her team of assistants did their best to chip and dig through the salt and stone to discover whatever ancient mysteries the good doctor thought she had discovered, but the work proved to be too grueling for a bunch of graduate students, and by the night they realized they would have to return home empty-handed.
But, they weren't really coming back failures, Kamila mused to herself. Sure, she'll say that to the University; that on the plains of Solenie they were attacked by bandits, that only a handful of the initial expedition survived. Maybe she'll even embellish it slightly - say Dr. Pereau was killed saving Kamila from certain death, and that Selene's last words were for Kamila to return here, to find what was lost, so that her death would not be in vain. Heck, maybe, years, or decades, from now, Kamila really will come back to this strange and terrible and beautiful place. She'll have her own - loyal - team of researchers, and she'll find the treasure that ultimately cost Selene her life. If there even is anything here. How perfect would that be? If after all this, if after the years of abuse and denigration, the arduous journey, the murders and deceit, how perfect would it be if the Swan Song of Dr. Selene Pereau was just a whithered, forsaken wasteland. What an ignoble end it would be for such an outstanding woman.
No, Kamila thought. This expedition is Selene's failure, but it is her glorious failure, as glorious as she was in life. Kamila may be free for the first time to pursue her own work, but no matter how brightly she shines, she will, in her own way, always be in Selene's shadow. So it goes.

GAME OVER
MAFIA VICTORY

=====================

Role PMs:

this is a stickup - Dr. Kamila "Kayprez" Przmysłava - Saboteuse (mafia-aligned godfather)
You have worked with Selene for many years. She was your graduate advisor when you first arrived at Dragonschain as a wide-eyed young student of archaeology, and you continued your research under her thumb for two decades. She is overbearing and demanding, a perfectionist with a short temper, and she insists on researching and reading tomes well into the midnight hours with you by her side, even when you would rather be home for a holiday or carousing with friends. You respect her, in a way, and even admire her for the brief moments of warmth she shows you. But she stifles you - as long as she is there, in her brilliance and her eloquence and her erudition, you will forever be in a shadow.
Her research lately has become consumed with tales of an ancient ship, a boat that she believes carried the first Arrentish queens to this continent millennia ago. A day before she was to leave for her grand expedition, you received a letter from Ravenwood University, a bastion of scholarship in the swamps of Bishadh: they are impressed with your
curriculum vitae, but would only accept you as one of their professors if you could get a letter of recommendation from Dr. Pereau. You groaned - the good doctor would never let you leave her grasp. You were going to languish in these dusty halls for eternity.
Somewhere between the horse-village of Quzz and the third time you fell into a puddle of mud you came up with an idea. It was a terrible idea, it was an awful, no-good idea, it was something that, if you did, you weren't sure you could ever live with yourself for doing. But when you saw the great salt plain of Solenie, that massive expanse of white emptiness, you felt a deep calm. The two dozen members of your expedition were the only human beings for hundreds of miles. Here there is nothing but oblivion - a quiet emptiness, where even Law itself has fallen into nothing.
You decided that night to do the worst thing you've ever had to do in your entire life - murder the rest of the expedition party, including Selene; forge her handwriting for a letter of recommendation; and, if there really is some ancient ship here, take the credit: Ravenwood surely won't mind another feather in your cap.
History is told by those who survived to write it. As long as you are alive, you're going to write your own story.

You are a mafioso! You seek to take control of this expedition by force, and as such win when only mafia-aligned players are alive, or nothing can stop the same.
Your team, however, is separated. You and your assistants (Moatillata [aka "Finn"] and Tremendous Taste [aka "Raul"]) are all together, can speak freely OOT, share the same alignment, and have a collective nightkill that may be performed in lieu of other night actions. However, a second team exists of others who have agreed to your plan (Murmur Twin [aka "Mirjam"] and Tired Moritz [aka "Gilroy"]). You CANNOT talk to them OOT, and they DO NOT know your identity or the identities of your assistants. However, they are still confirmed to share your alignment.
To assist you in your goals, you are one of Dr. Selene's most trusted friends - she would never suspect you of wrongdoing. If investigated at night, you will come up TOWN.
Furthermore, you are aware that there are a handful of players in the game whose sole night action is to wander from tent to tent at night. These players' flavor are as follows: "Digger (town-aligned visitor)." You have decided that this would be good cover story: during the night you may choose a player to visit; this action can be tracked and watched, however it has no other effect. Note that you cannot visit the same night you perform a nightkill.
You are a godfather and you are mafia-aligned.

Moatillata - Finn meg-Monahan - Saboteur (mafia-aligned goon)
Tremendous Taste - Raul Rufino - Saboteur (mafia-aligned goon)
You are one of Dr. Selene's assistants. You've only worked with her for a few months, but already you cannot stand her - she is rude and condescending and berates you for the littlest mistakes, or even for when you didn't make a mistake but she expected you to know not to do what she told you to do. She decided to take you and two dozen other people to the deepest wastelands of the deepest north, hundreds (thousands?) of miles from civilization, all because of some dig she wants to do. You agreed to go with her (like you had a choice), but after the weeks turned into months you were at the edge of your rope. You were approached last night by one of Selene's researchers, Dr. Przmysłava, for a plan most sinister - murder Selene and the rest of the expedition, be free of your covenant, and go home to civilization a free man. What's not to love?
You are a mafioso! You seek to take control of this expedition by force, and as such win when only mafia-aligned players are alive, or nothing can stop the same. Your team consists of: this is a stickup (aka "Dr. Przmysłava"), Moatillata (aka "Finn") and Tremendous Taste (aka "Raul"). You may all speak freely OOT, and are confirmed to share the same alignment. You have the normal powers of posting and voting in the thread, and you have a collective nightkill that may be performed in lieu of other actions.
You have no other exceptional powers or abilities.
You are a goon and you are mafia-aligned.

Murmur Twin - Mirjam - Guide (mafia-aligned tracker/watcher)
You have lived near these flats all your life, and your people for countless generations. Your mother, Marjaan, was a hunter; and her mother, Aile, was a tanner. Her mother, Jana, was another hunter; and her mother, Tatia, was a hunter as well; but her mother, another Mirjam, was chieftess of your tribe for a time. Her mother, Jana, was a warrior; her mother, Ree, a teacher; her mother, Rett, a healer; her mother, Mirjam, was another hunter. Anga, Dag, Ramar, Marta; Aina the Black, Oona the Grey, Malima the White; there's Harna, who many say was a lunatic; there's Terena, who had a pet salt fox and believed she could talk to animals; there's Uma, who was taller than every man in the village; there's Sadoa, who killed her husbands and then herself; there's Aada, who was born Aadan; there's Maege, who came from a land far away; and there's Ilona, who left the tribe and never came back. You know all their stories, because they are your story as well - you are them, and you live every day of your life keeping their lives in your heart. So does your entire tribe: these flats are their home, just as they were for your mothers and your mothers' mothers for time immemorial. And though the outside world grows ever bigger and ever closer, your tribe still remains, keeping to their old ways, eking out life from the stillness of salt.
You were hired as a guide by a traveling caravan of foreigners; their leader, a short and aggressive woman, managed to tell you where they wanted to go. She didn't have a name for it, but you knew it well: the rocks of Inski, where Anga died after being bit by a crust snake. Why anyone, especially a foreigner, would want to go there was beyond you. But once you all arrived you realized - to your horror - what they had planned. They were going to rip open the ground, destroy the rocks, and take whatever treasure they could find. You had to stop them.
Your distress was obvious to a member of the expedition - a man named Gillroee. He told you in his broken understanding of your language not to worry - "make to stick to me," he said, "and we will make to protect your people."

You are a mafioso! You seek to take control of this expedition by force, and as such win when only mafia-aligned players are alive, or nothing can stop the same. Your team consists of: Murmur Twin (aka "Mirjam") and Tired Moritz (aka "Gilroy"). The two of you are confirmed to share the same alignment and can speak together freely OOT. However, your team DOES NOT have a nightkill. There is another team, aligned with you, whose identities are unknown to you, who are in charge of the nightkill, so don't worry.
You are also a skilled guide, as you know these salt plains better than you know your own ancestry. During the night you may target a player in the game; you will see not only where that player goes, if anywhere, but also who targets them the same night, if anyone.
You are a tracker/watcher, and you are mafia-aligned.

Tired Moritz - Gilroy Kowalczyk - Coordinator (mafia-aligned rolecop)
Dr. Pereau hired you a year ago to plan the logistics behind an expedition she wanted to make. You've worked with professors at Dragonschain before, and you knew they could be a bit eccentric, but Dr. Pereau was something else. She wanted to travel to a distant corner of the globe, far from civilization, in a trip that would take months to complete; she wanted half a dozen excavators, another half dozen assistants, three researchers, and herself, obviously; she wanted horses, food, wine, candles; she wanted her notes and half her library to come with her; and she didn't want to be inconvenienced in any way on this trip. It was a tall order, but over the many weeks and months, you managed to plan everything down to her exact details with enough food and water and shelter to get everyone home again in one piece.
But then it started. Her cabin in the boat from Dromay was too small. The roads out of Linop were too bumpy. The horse-village of Quzz smells too much like horses. The wine was from Arrentia, and she wanted wine from Mereaux, and she knows she didn't tell you that, but you should have figured it out on your own, and also it doesn't really matter because the wine was stale anyway. "What do I pay you for?" and "why did I hire a man to do woman's work?" and "I'm your boss, if you want love hire a hooker." On and on and on it went at every turn.
But then you met...
her. When you rented the salt ostriches from a trading post at the edge of the salt plains you also hired a guide to lead you there; the woman they sent you was a stunning beauty. It was like she was an avatar of a Goddess, or one of their Angels come down to earth. Her eyes were a striking deep crimson, her hair shimmering white, and her voice like a fine flute. You only knew a few broken phrases in her language, but over the journey to the dig site you did your best to learn about her. You found out her name was Meeryam, for instance, and that she liked living near the flats. With the way she looked at you, you knew this was true love.
When you finally arrived, however, and digging began, you saw how much it upset her. Something about this place, you figured, must be sacred and holy, and she only now understands what is happening. You decide to put a stop to this excavation at once; maybe if you do, Meeryam will see how great you are, and the two of you can leave this cold, desolate place and live somewhere far far away, happily ever after.

You are also the coordinator of the entire expedition, and as such you know more than anyone who everyone is, here, and what their purpose is on this trip. During the night you may target a player in the game; if successful, you will receive their full role PM.
You also know that you hired an armed guard to protect the expedition during its travels, but you told them last night to kill everyone in the expedition who wasn't a traitor. You can't remember who specifically it is, however, and there's a chance they've gone rogue and are killing randomly. But they know not to kill you or Mirjam at least, and really, what else matters but that?
You are a rolecop and you are mafia-aligned.

Slamburger - Irilaith - Armed Guard (mafia-aligned serial killer)
You come from a bandit tribe in the Bishadh known for being particularly rough-and-tumble; during the Wars of Conquest centuries ago your tribe was on the front lines resisting the Arrentish invaders, and once you were conquered your tribe volunteered for Arrentia's wars. The martial lifestyle continues today; you were trained in the art of silently killing your enemies when they least suspected it, which your tribe calls "Daggermoor," from the ancient tradition of hiding in the moors only to pop up suddenly and slice your victims' throats. After a stint in the legions you offered yourself as a bodyguard for travelers, and it's an honest living that keeps bread on your table (and if they refuse to pay, there's plenty of creative ways to get what's been owed).
Recently you were hired by a man named Gilroy to escort some researchers to a distant barren on the edge of the world. It paid well, and you were interested in seeing what wonders nature has created. The trip was long and hard, and by the time you all arrived half the party wanted to murder the other half. Literally.
Last night, Gilroy sent you a message: you'll get paid double if you help protect him and his friend by killing a whole lot of people. You happily agreed.

You are a mafioso! You seek to take control of this expedition by force, and as such win when only mafia-aligned players are alive, or nothing can stop the same. You have the normal powers of posting and voting in the thread freely.
However, you are separated from the main mafia team - you CANNOT communicate with any of them OOT! But you do know some of their identities. For instance, there's Tired Moritz (aka "Gilroy"), who hired you; Murmur Twin (aka "Mirjam"), his friend; and this is a stickup (aka "Dr. Przmysłava"), who you recognize as the ringleader of your little operation. You are all confirmed to share the same alignment, even if you cannot talk to them OOT. There may be a way for them to contact you further as the game develops.
To assist you in your goals, you are also a hired killer - excuse me, an "armed guard." During the night you may target a player in the game to kill. This kill will be untraceable (cannot be tracked or watched), but it can still be blocked by doctors' protections and roleblocks.
You are a serial killer and you are mafia-aligned.

Max - Dr. Selene Pereau - Adventurer (town-aligned beloved princess)
When studying ancient history, there are two types of stories available: the mythological and the archaeological. The mythologies are the stories we tell ourselves to make us feel better: that Goddesses came down from the heavens and created life and from that crucible we were born; that Moira the Mage was the first to harness magicks for her own purposes; that Julia the Bold fought seventeen bears leading the Rentish peoples to their homelands; and so on and so on. Stories are good in their own way you prefer bones and shards to pleasing lies. The stories they tell are far more real than what people simply believe to be true.
Still, stories can guide you, especially when someone a millennia ago had the wherewithal to write their stories down. And one story in particular has dogged you for your entire professional career. It first began when you discovered a scroll in a cave deep in the deserts of Charnaz that described the lineage for some now-long-forgotten king. But the curious thing was, the name of the king's earliest ancestor was... bizarre. It looked like an Arrentish name, millennia before Arrentia even existed, or even when the Rentish peoples had united into one identity. "Baszumierz." And his epithet was even stranger: "the Lieutenant."
You found a similar title in an old Arrentish temple, dating back to about the same time: "Irłena the Captain." Scribbled on a piece of Livireen pottery: "Helena the Navigator." Etched into a Mereaux tomb: "here lies Dunin - The [Sea] Engineer" (all that remained was part of a male tooth and a fragment of a female tibia). It was not much; they were only crumbs of what deeper, mysterious truth they represented. But you spent your career reading every tome and document you could find to help illuminate your search.
You were not alone. Scholarship by Drs. Labourd and Boyer at the Imperial University confirmed what many has long suspected: the Morze was once much larger in ancient times, stretching dozens - maybe even hundreds - of miles further inland. Your colleague at Dragonschain University, Dr. Przmysłava, concluded that the salt plain of Solenie was once an extension of the Morze itself before the changing climate cut it off. The real breakthrough though was when Drs. de-Luz et al. confirmed through magickal analysis that the oldest artifacts around the Morze all come from the same time period, and thus before ~7000 years ago there simply
was no artifact-producing cultures on the Morze.
Eventually you could only come to one, single conclusion: seven thousand years ago a ship landed in the Morze, and its passengers became the progenitors of every civilization and culture in the region.
Such a radical idea however would need radical proof. And thus, here you are, thousands of miles from home, in the salt plain of Solenie, hoping its flat terrain meant it was once a grand harbor, inviting ancient navigators to rest on its shores and stay for an eternity.

=====

The trip was long and hard, and you hired professionals to manage every aspect of it to keep everyone happy. But when you got here, discontent must have boiled over, because now everyone is murdering each other. You need to root out the traitors in your party, hang them for murder, and get back to completing your life's work.

You are a townie! You seek to bring peace to this expedition party while bringing its murderers to justice, and as such win when all scum players are eliminated from the game. You have the normal town powers of posting and voting in the thread.
You are also the head of this particular expedition, and as such, at some point in time, approved every one here to come along on your trip. During the night you may investigate a player in the game, and to the best of your judgment you will conclude if they are either likely to be a traitorous SCUM, or if they are a peaceful, loyal TOWNie.
However, because you are the namesake for this entire expedition, you give your team much moral and support. If you ever died, people would wonder "what was even the point of traveling so far for so long?" If you die during the day, the following night all non-killing night actions will auto-fail. If you die during the night, the deadline for the following day will only be 6 hours long.
You are a beloved princess and you are town-aligned.

TMMadman - Julien Bois - Cartographer (town-aligned tracker)
You were conscripted into the legion when you were a boy, orphaned by parents you never knew and who you likely never would know. You grew up to be shrimpy and frail, far from the rock-like image of masculinity the legion demands, and they were ready to release you in the wilderness to die. But you had a knack for understanding numbers and distances. By chance you became a squire to the company's mapmaster, and suddenly you had a purpose in life - you could read maps, calculate distances in your head, and create new ones with ease.
When your time in the legion came to an end, you offered your services to travelers who wish to go great distances. One such traveler was a stuffy academic in Arrentia; she wanted to travel to a distant land and wanted you to help her. You were happy to oblige - it sounded pretty routine, to be honest. But when you got there, suddenly everyone is at each other's throats! Now you need to use your skills to calmly guide the party out of the confusion and chaos, towards a brighter path.

You are a townie! You seek to bring peace to this expedition party while bringing its murderers to justice, and as such win when all scum players are eliminated from the game. You have the normal town powers of posting and voting in the thread.
Additionally, you are the party's cartographer. You have a magickal map of the region which can let you know where everything is in relation to each other. During the night you may focus your attention on a specific person in the party; you will use your maps to trace where that player goes, if anywhere, during the night.
You are a tracker and you are town-aligned!

Kashuno - Decimus Theodorus - Compassmaster (town-aligned watcher)
It's been known for centuries that certain metals found in the wild have the semi-miraculous property of pointing in a certain direction regardless of where the holder was facing. These stones are very large, and are primarily used for detecting water sources in deserts, but recently mages at the Imperial University discovered ways to manufacture the metals anew. Tiny needles of metal can now be placed on floating corks, and now a skilled navigator can tell in what direction they are headed even during the cloudiest nights.
You are one such navigator. You belong to the Order of Compassmasters, and your elite members are hired by important dignitaries, scholars, and nobles to help guide their long-distance travels. One such patron was a Dr. Selene Pereau, who hired you and two dozen other people to travel to the far north, using your compass as a guide. It was a long and difficult journey, but you made it in one piece.
Unfortunately, while your head was down looking at your compass, you didn't see the discontent bubbling all around you. When you finally arrived at your destination, some members of the expedition went murderous. Now you need to use your skills to plow through the darkness of hate and lead the party to a peaceful destination.

You are a townie! You seek to bring peace to this expedition party while bringing its murderers to justice, and as such win when all scum players are eliminated from the game. You have the normal town powers of posting and voting in the thread.
You are also a skilled navigator, and even on the darkest nights, as long as you have your compass, you can tell what direction everyone is headed. During the night you may target a player in the game; you will be told who else, if anyone, targets them the same night.
You are a watcher and you are town-aligned.

chores - Lucas Orell - Cleric (town-aligned doctor)
CCKeane - Draco Aeliana - Cleric (town-aligned doctor)
Every expedition needs a healer; people trip and slip, sprain ankles, stub their toes, break their arms, get bitten by snakes and crocodiles, mosquitoes infect them with deadly diseases, they pass out from exhaustion or lose a finger from frostbite. Leaving the comforts of home is always a dangerous proposition. But luckily we live in an era where white mages are as cheap to hire as they are ubiquitous.
You are the party's cleric; you are an experienced hiker and woodsman, and you know not only how to heal common traveling wounds, but also how to prevent them from happening in the first place. You were hired weeks ago by a professor at Dragonschain University to accompany her and her party to the distant unknown, a place to which in all your years of travel you had never come close: the salt flats of Solenie. The trip has been fairly routine so far, if long, but when you arrived you were shocked to find members of the party had turned on each other and started murdering each other en masse. Now you need to test out magicks you haven't practiced in ages, for it's not enough to heal broken bodies - now you must also heal broken souls.

You are a townie! You seek to bring peace to this expedition party while bringing its murderers to justice, and as such win when all scum players are eliminated from the game. You have the normal town powers of posting and voting in the thread.
You are also the party's healer! During the night you may target a player in the game; you will cast spells of protection over them, guarding them from all harm that may befall them during the night. You may target the same player twice in a row, but you may never target yourself.
You are a doctor and you are town-aligned

Atomic Soda IllegallySober - Murna - Chandler (town-aligned jailor)
Every good expedition needs someone to handle the ropes, and that's your job. You handle every rope and chain the party needs, thin ropes, thick ropes, twine, wire, if it twists you use it, all of it, ropes and candles too (which really are just ropes covered in wax if you think about it) that's your thing. You have provided Dr. Pereau with a steady stream of candles for her nightly studies, you've provided Gilroy with ropes for all the packages and boxes, you've provided Kamila with twine for her backpack; you are always there when people need you, as long as they need you for a rope. If they don't want rope, you have nothing to help. But everyone wants rope at least sometimes, who doesn't love a good rope! And so you are a very useful member of the team, because of the ropes.
Now you're here in the dark north, and suddenly people are turning on each other. They want your rope because they want to make a noose to execute suspected murderers. Can rope really do that? Indeed it can, ropes can do many things, from save lives to end them. Ropes are truly the most functional equipment to have, and not having a rope would be truly a tragedy. Luckily, you have plenty of rope to go around, one for each neck in the party should it come to that. Which you hope it won't (hey hope rhymes with rope!). But if it does, you're prepared.
Ropes!

You are a townie! You seek to bring peace to this expedition party while bringing its murderers to justice, and as such win when all scum players are eliminated from the game. You have the normal town powers of posting and voting in the thread.
You are also in charge of the ropes, and are a rope enthusiast. During the night you may target a player in the game and, perhaps very predictably, knock them out and tie them up with a rope. This will incapacitate them for the night, causing their actions to fail. Furthermore, you can use ropes to tie their tent shut with the most powerful knot you can imagine - this will cause the player to also be untargetable the same night.
You are a jailor and you are town-aligned.

BottleKnight - Herman Echeverrķa de Yocasta - Digger (town-aligned visitor)
Flying Leatherman - Apollinos Bostos - Digger (town-aligned visitor)
Pinterest Mom - Achille - Digger (town-aligned visitor)
OMGVBFLOL - Finn Donaig - Digger (town-aligned visitor)
chaoslord - Eoghan - Digger (town-aligned visitor)
In Arrentia, men are primarily a means to an end. We men are physically stronger than women, that much is true, but women are so much smarter and cleverer than us, and so it is only natural that we serve different roles. Women, like Dr. Pereau, spend long hours reading and writing and planning expeditions and talking about scholarly mumbo jumbo, while us men use our strongs to carry heavy things, grip thick ropes, and - most importantly for this trip - DIG.
You are a strongman hired to dig a big hole somewhere very far away from your home. Women would never be able to handle such strenuous labor for so long, they would barely make a yard into the ground before they got tired and would have to write a poem or plan an economy or something. This is a job for manly men, and that's what you are. And so with your shovel in one hand and your pick in another you are ready to serve, to dig your heart out, to make your muscles ache, and at the end of a long day to drink until you pass out, and come morning repeat it until the job is done.
Unfortunately someone decided that they didn't want to dig in the dirt - they wanted to dig into FLESH. Now you need to use your strength to chip away at the hatred and division in this expedition, and bury this violence in the dirt where it belongs.

You are a townie! You seek to bring peace to this expedition party while bringing its murderers to justice, and as such win when all scum players are eliminated from the game. You have the normal town powers of posting and voting in the thread.
You are also a big tough strong guy! You specialize in digging holes, but, with all digging halted until this whole "people are literally murdering each other" thing is resolved, you have grown a little restless. It's not all bad though - you still have ale to drink until things clear up. During the night you may target a player in the game; you will visit their tent and share some drinks with them. This action has no effect on them, and they will not remember it happening the next morning, but it will help you relax until you can get swinging again.
You are a visitor and you are town-aligned.

You are one of Dr. Pereau's assistants. You have only worked under her for a few months, but already you can see why someone wouldn't like her. She demands perfection from those around her, and does not mince her words when you disappoint her. Indeed, sometimes she can even be downright nasty. However, those are the same reasons why you have chosen to keep working for her; she pushes you, she challenges you to achieve heights of scholarship and research that you never before thought possible. And she would only push you so hard if she believed you were capable of perfection. When you meet (or even exceed!) her expectations, the smirk she gives you fills your heart with elation. She is tough, but she is fair, and you would happily follow her to heck and back if she demanded it of you.
And demanded she did - earlier this year she told you of her plans to travel to the distant salt plain of Solenie, far in the north, hundreds if-not-thousands of miles from civilization. You happily agreed; this could be the perfect chance to prove yourself to her, and maybe you could even hear her say those magical four words, the words that you dream of hearing each night as you go to bed: "I'm proud of you."

You are a townie! You seek to bring peace to this expedition party while bringing its murderers to justice, and as such win when all scum players are eliminated from the game. You have the normal town powers of posting and voting in the thread.
You have no other exceptional powers or abilities at this time.
You are vanilla and you are town-aligned.

there is only one hell:
the one we live in now
NOTES:

Town got absolutely steamrolled this game. It was almost impressive how badly you all lost.

Setup comments:
- The main "gimmick" for this game were the many visitors combined with the multiple watchers and trackers. Visiting should allow players to be seen targeting someone else at night without killing them, thus suggesting they're town, while simultaneously obscuring the mafia's power roles. This would add an interesting dynamic to a game as, despite originating from role-based information, it would inherently draw attention away from roles as a means of confirming a player's alignment, and the game would then become about trusting the player when they said they did nothing untoward that night.
--- Indeed, a broader, meta point to my games is the inherent unreliability of role-based information as a means of determining players' alignments. Roles should enhance players' substantive cases rather than replace them wholesale. Towns that move away from roles will always, always fare better in my games (and in most every mafia game) than towns that rely on roles as a crutch.
--- This gimmick did not play out much at all, since many of the visitors died early in the game, and the town (wrongly) started believing that many of the visitors would be scum, when it was in fact just one (stickup), and he never even used his power (for reasons indeterminate).

- A second gimmick for this game were the separate mafia teams, all in the same faction but unable to communicate with one another. The two power roles - a tracker/watcher and a rolecop - could not communicate what they discovered to the godfather and goons (who had the kill). A third role, a "mafia-aligned serial killer" (strictly a misnomer but for the sake of simplicity I went with it), knew the identities of mafia power roles but not the goons but could not communicate or coordinate with ANY of them, while in turn none of the other mafia knew the "SK's" identity (or even existence).
--- This was the reason for the game's many doctors - to hopefully block a few of these uncoordinated-but-still-aligned kills from whittling down the town too extensively. Despite the two (secretly three) doctors, this never once happened. Special "lol" on the night both living doctors failed to protect the claimed cop.
--- For reference, Moat, Moritz and Murmur picked up your breadcrumbs and figured out who you all were early in Day 1.

- The third and final gimmick was the eponymous Dr. Pereau. Players who targeted her/Max would find their roles change slightly; visitors would become unconfirmed masons with her, the watcher and tracker would secretly flip what they could do, and the doctors would find themselves enhanced or limited respectively. I had hoped Dr. Pereau would make herself a nexus of night actions as the game went on, with her mason team subtly revealing her investigation results or otherwise vouching for her trustworthiness to the town, leading to an endgame where Selene roots out who she believes to be the scumteam, but potentially fails to recognize the godfather in her own ranks.
--- As is the case with any "neat" role ever to exist in the history of mafia games, it died night 2.

General comments:
- I would never, ever in a million years give vanilla players flavor if they had been jailed. I never even tell people explicitly "you have been jailed" - I usually only say something like "you have failed to perform your action," with only the flavor suggesting why, leaving it up to the player to determine what happened to them.

- I do not treat kill flavor as absolute. I generally have different flavor for different factions or methods of killing, but at my whimsy I feel free to change it up for whatever suits my mood at the moment, especially if I think a town is relying too strongly on flavor to justify their choices. Aside from extreme examples - someone claiming flavor that's identical to the scumteam's identities, for instance - flavor and setup speculation should not be used in lieu of actual scumhunting.

- Town just really, really dropped the ball this game. From Max needlessly fullclaiming to three doctors failing to stop a single kill to the town ignoring that one kill happened each night Moat was jailed, the town kept digging itself into a hole from which it could not escape. So it goes.

Good work to the scumteam, and thank you all for playing!

Oh some more random setup background tidbits:

- The personality for Dr. Selene was inspired by Paris Geller from Gilmore Girls.
- Selene's name and the setting were inspired by looking at the night sky one night and imagining a long plain as white and shimmering as the moon herself.
- The conflict was a little too similar to the one in The Ravenwood Murders for my comfort, but, well, I have never pretended not to be a hack. Fun facts, Kayprez hopes to teach at Ravenwood University.
- "Dragonschain University" is where Selene was a professor; this name will become very relevant this fall.
- The name of this place - Solenie - comes from a corruption of the Polish word for Salt.

And finally:
What did Dr. Selene think she discovered under the salt flats of Solenie? None of you will ever know, as Kayprez never returns and the treasure becomes lost to eternity.

Probably.
