My friend is looking at used 5l v8 murder mobiles 2010?-2014. Are there any issues he needs to be aware of besides basic used car fuckery?

Don't go near 2010s. Newer body style, old crap (4.6L) engine. I know you said 5L, but you also said 2010-.

A few 2011 5.0s had a problem with cyl 8 blowing up, but it was usually attributed to suspect aftermarket tunes or mods. And if it was going to blow it probably would have done so by now. Also check if there are open recalls for the airbags. These cars also have a tendency for bubbling or corrosion at the leading edge of the hood, so you might want to take a close look for that... Plus all the usual stuff for any used car--check air conditioning, power devices, see if the oil or coolant looks nasty, etc. Make sure the steering and brakes work smoothly, and there are no warnings lights or messages for the engine/ABS/stability control.

Yeah, wasn't sure on exact years for engines, but I've told him 5.0, no exceptions for v8s, no v6 either. And florida, so no rust issues likely either! There is a really nice one with 25k on it about 2 hours away, but its an auto. As an aside, since this will be his daily and he'll likely go for that instead of a stick, how is the auto in these? Terrible slushbox or reasonably decent? Also, how hard is it to add instuff like an amp and sub to the stock radio?

The automatic transmission is the only proper choice if you want a modern transmission As for stereo stuff, the Mustang has one of the largest aftermarkets of any car produced; stereo stuff shouldn't be a problem.

It's not the best but it has tunable shift points and holds up to power really really well.

Is there a tread about radar detectors? I looked and couldn't find one. I'm not sure I need one, since the last speeding ticket I got was Christmas night 1980, but then again I haven't been in a muscle car since 1979 and the other day I hit 90 without even realizing it, so... I'm kinda leaning towards in integrated system since I hate sticking stuff to my windshield (my dashcam is mounted to the rear-view mirror support and hard-wired in) even though they are pretty drat pricey.

There was at some point, I don't recall seeing it recently, though. Just buy a valentine one. None of the others are as effective. Edit: a blendmount will put it under your rear view mirror in an unobtrusive and clean way. Krakkles fucked around with this message at 03:17 on Jan 26, 2017 |

I picked up a V1 the day my Mustang arrived. Its mounted and hardwired to the rearview. Works well, but hasn't helped me yet. Doing 90 without realizing it is damned easy.

Seconding a Valentine. I've had mine for over 10 years and it's saved me from many tickets. The Escort with the GPS might be a close equivalent but I haven't had to test that one, and I wouldn't trust anything else. I got caught by a laser once but there's no defense against that except jamming, and I've never had a speeding ticket via radar enforcement since I've owned the Valentine. It can be irritating with false positives, but I've programmed it to ignore X-band radar.

So the new rumors based on supposed easter eggs in 2018 digital dash pic are 455hp for the 5.0 GT, and 755hp for the next GT500. Redline in the pic that shows 7th gear and 55mph has a 6500rpm redline which matches GT500 spy shots. I wonder if it will end up being similar to the 6.2 based 777 engine rumored when the 5.0/6.2 first came out, or a punched out 5.0 or what.

How much are people getting out of blowing on 5.0 coyote blocks? nvm I found something: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/crate-engines/ford-coyote.shtml mmm inching up ever closer to 100HP/L on the base 5.0.

The most expensive is the blown LS3 from edlebrock that is only $500 more, but makes a lil more torque. We also have a deal with our district manager that if any of us sell one of those bastards, we get 5% comission.

Where is the under cowl drain located / what could be stopped up on a '00 mustang? I've been getting water on the driver side floor when it rains, no obvious leak into the vehicle, some forum posts elsewhere suggest it could be this drain stopped up. I've already taken the plastic cowl cover/grill off the mustang, but I don't yet see an obvious stopped up drain. Where should I be looking? Or, am I completely on the wrong track?

I've already taken the plastic cowl cover/grill off the mustang, but I don't yet see an obvious stopped up drain. Where should I be looking? I dont think the cowl area is the source of entry but to double check, if you look under the steering column and above the pedals is anything up there wet/rusty? Do you have a cracks in anything? Missing plastic plugs in the firewall? if nothing up there is wet, I doubt water is coming from the cowl. Secondy, while the cowl is off you can also try pouring a glass of water over that area of the car and see where the water goes. just be careful the computer is behind the passenger side kick panel so make sure your "experiment" doesn't flow that way. Im willing to bet though, its somewhere near the weatherstripping which could be crap now since its 17 years old. These are the places in the car I would check next..... Look around the cowl meets the A pillar? is water coming in between that and the windshield? Is water coming in between the gap in the door and fender panel? is water coming in on your drivers side window near the weather stripping? is water coming in between your mirror and weather stripping? Is the side skirt loose? is there a gap there for water to get into? Is there water behind the driver side kick panel? is there damage anywhere near the speakers on the door? Do you have a small rusty hole in the floor board and the carpet is covering it? Does water come in when the car is standing? or does it appear when you are driving? How much water are we talking about here? where in the drivers side does the water appear? by the pedals? the seat?

So ... yeah, at this point, I think I agree. There doesn't seem to be anything that could come through from the cowl area. The water is localized in the driver footwell, toward the back, just in front of the seat. The only thing directly above that is the steering wheel, and I've looked all around for leaks (including under the dash, behind the kick panel, etc.) and cannot find anything. It seems to occur when the vehicle is standing - leave it parked, it'll have water after a rain storm. Drive it during a rain storm, it already has water in it but there is no noticeable ingress during the driving. To all of the questions about damage except one, I can say definitively no. The one I can't say for sure is this one: "Do you have a small rusty hole in the floor board and the carpet is covering it?" I doubt it, because it's a california car with zero rust on it, that has never been in snowy conditions. But until I get it on a lift or jackstands, I am only guessing. For the questions about water coming it at various points, I'm thinking I need to have someone point a hose at it while I'm sitting inside, because there was no leaking near any of the seals you mentioned that I could see, but I was driving in the rain, not standing in the rain, so I'm wondering if that affected it. In terms of quantity, it's enough that I'm concerned about mold in the carpet - the footwell is soaked. It's not pooling above the carpet, but the carpet is wet, even ~1 week after it's been exposed to rain. I'm going to throw one of those moisture absorbing crystal things in it this weekend, and I expect I'm going to have to pull the carpet at some point, which sucks. Thank you - this definitely gives me a couple of directions to look.

That is a good idea. Also get a friend at night to shoot a flash light at all the areas where you suspect water coming in and see if you can see light when you are inside the car.

Okay. I have a 2017 GT on order, getting here in a few weeks. Comes with summer-only tires, my intent is to buy a second set of winter tires and wheels and change them out for winters. The OEM wheel sizes are 19x9 in the front, and 19x9.5" in the rear. OEM tire sizes are 255/40R19s up front and 275/40Rs in back. So I went to tirerack.com, which I've consistently heard good things about, and run a search based on these OEM sizes and the search results say that there are zero winter tires in these sizes. Like, flat out "We're sorry, there are no tires available for your vehicle." Which isn't very helpful. I also look for wheels in those sizes. These are just going to be spare wheels for winter, so nothing fancy required. Also a kind of lovely selection there, there's nothing that matches the OEM sizes in both the front and rear until I get up into the $410 dollar range, anything that's less expensive than that has me with a narrower front tire. So first question: for winter, narrower fronts are probably better to begin with, right? Second question: Am I better off going down to 18s and going with a taller sidewall? Or finally, if anyone just has a recommendation for a set of wheels and winter tires I'll probably just do that because I'm getting tired of wading through tirerack's web page.

you don't need 275 winters on the back. you'll want to rotate them between seasons anyways. Just find a nice square set with wheels that fit over your brakes.

My car has the 20s with the summer-only P-Zeros and I went with a set of Yokohama Ice Guards 235/50R18 on a set of cheap Enkeis. They've worked great on my car, this is the second winter I've driven on them.

Get any 18 inch wheels that fit mustangs (which should be just about all of them) and which will fit over your PP brakes (fewer). You don't want to be swapping tires twice a year anyway. Much easier to swap wheels. And yes, stay with a square setup and run the same tires all around.

# ? Feb 3, 2017 21:08 |

Yeah just to echo what everyone else said. Get some cheap wheels that fit over your PP brakes and throw on a square set of tires. I probably would not do over 255 for winter, I'm running 235 on my car now and that seems like overkill for a winter tire tbh.

# ? Feb 3, 2017 21:50 |

Yeah, a narrower tire will be better for traction (puts more force over a smaller area ) anyway.

Got my exhaust installed this morning, and I am so glad I went with the S-type rather than the touring. It sounds awesome, a really throaty growl when accelerating, and almost silent when cruising along (at least from the inside). Took the local custom exhaust guys a bit under an hour and $150 to install. Very happy.
