All those cute little videos where people harass and mess with telemarketers aren't funny. They're not excited to be cold-calling strangers, but it's obviously something they need to do to support themselves and their family. And as far as I know, most work on commission, so all you're doing is taking money out of their pockets and putting them at a greater risk of losing their jobs.

The same goes for people that do pranks on drive-thru employees.

Ugh, you people are arguing about spoilers? Ugh!!

Spoilers dont matter because fiction doesnt matter. As ive said before: nothing is good. All movies, tv shows, books, comic books, video games, animes, cartoons, etc. are garbage and bad! None of them are good! So it doesnt matter if people spoil them for you because they were bad to begin with!

Star Wars is bad. Harry Potter is bad. Doctor Who is bad. The Hunger Games is bad. Game of Thrones is bad. Stephen Universe is bad. Adventure Time is bad. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is bad. Marvel comics in general are bad. The DC cinematic universe is bad. DC comics in general are bad. Star Trek is bad. Disney cartoons are bad. Pixar movies are bad.

Actually there are a few things that are good: farting, taking huge dumps, and actually that's about it, I cant think of anything else off the top of my head.

The light-hearted pranks where people do silly things and make the employees laugh are great and I can fully support.

But like any trend, many people take it way too far.

I will take the time to gently caress around with that phone scam where they want access to your PC. Usually saying I can't close down a porn window, it's important, then ending with saying I own a Mac.
Sadly they've called enough for me to decide to do this.

Drive through employees are not the same as telemarketers. If you choose to do something lovely and predatory as your job don't be surprised if people don't like it. Most of them are outright scams nowadays anyways that are trying to steal from you.

I mean, it's trivially true in the sense that for most issues with opinions falling along some continuum, there exist opinions to the dramatic extreme of either side which are bad. But in terms of the way it's actually used (since the aforementioned meaning is pointless), it is virtually never an appropriate sentiment. Even if the best opinion does lie between two other stated opinions, that's just a coincidence and has nothing to do with "the truth is the middle" being some accurate guiding principle.

It depends upon stuff like how far you are from the screen and how big the screen is too. Though given that I can notice the difference between 1080p and 2k on a smart phone screen, I imagine it's even more noticeable on larger screens (though I feel like 2k is getting close to the limit of what eyes can notice on smart phones). You can really tell the difference between 1080p and 2k on a smart phone if you actually play a video in those resolutions on Youtube or something. The 2k on such a small screen is absolutely incredible and feels like you're seeing things in real life.

Telemarketing is generally bad. BUT, as someone in sales, I think its kind of a detriment too. So many products and services people buy, but if you approached them over the phone its somehow "evil" or "Bad". I'm not saying telemarketing for some bullshit magazine subscription is a good thing, but I interact with people every day that use their phone for everything, except phone calls. They'll spend hundreds of dollars a month on something, but if you approach them for a product THEY ARE ALREADY PAYING FOR, they will refuse to communicate over the phone.

Its really quite weird.

I mentioned this a while ago too: You should always answer your phone even if you don't recognize the number. It takes literally 3 seconds of your life to figure out if its important to you or not.

Since there's a lot of movie talk:

I'm a huge fan of cinema (arty-farty stuff). I don't give a drat about the resolution as long as the quality is overall good. When I buy Criterion discs I buy the DVD version because I watch most movies on my laptop, not my 1080p TV.

Other movie snobs have claimed I'm not a true fan, because if I was I'd only want to watch movies in the best possible resolution possible in the optimal setting. I honestly don't care enough, and don't find that my enjoyment of a movie changes based on how detailed the image is I'm looking at.

I have never in my life been called by a telemarketer trying to sell an actually good product. They are shilling mediocre products at best and conmen at worst. They might not have a choice about working there but I certainly have a choice about whether I want to talk to them.

Sales in general is a profession that's difficult to respect. To be good at it you have to constantly con people into paying more than they need to, even if you are being completely honest about the quality of your product (which would be pretty rare).

Yeah I think the commission part is what ruins and forces them in to high pressure tactics which nobody enjoys. If I could go in to sears or whatever and tell the guy what kind of TV or appliance I wanted and they took me to exactly the one I need, that would be fine. But since they need to make the largest commission possible, they will say the thing I actually want is poo poo and drag me to the one that costs twice as much, and oh by the way, you'd have to be an absolute moron to not buy the 3 year extended warranty, and by the way your TV will be practically useless if you don't buy these Monster brand cables to hook everything up to it.
