The DLC path is similar to Siege. The season pass gives you early access to DLC but it is eventually free for everyone.

If it's like Siege it'll take a lot of playing to unlock new characters without a season pass, but I always had enough rainbow bux to do so.

I need help with screen settings (not 4k stuff) - some of my games (Darkest Dungeon, Atelier Sophie) seem to have their screens bigger than my TV, and so a part of the display is cut off. I've tried minimizing the display size in options, but it changed nothing. Normally whatever the game display size is corresponds to what I set in Options (and I've set it to the edge of the screen), so I don't know if it's a problem with those particular games, or is there anything I can do - it's not a huge problem, but it just looks bad.

Check your TV settings for something that mentions 'overscan' and see if messing around with that does anything.

I ran into this same problem last night with Jotun. I tried fooling with my tv settings but couldn't find anything wrong there either. It's weird.

I managed to fix it in the TV settings - for some reason, the picture size option "16:9" is a different option from "fit to the screen", but changing the option to the latter made it work correctly. It was in the "Picture" tab in my TV's settings.

Ok, trip report now that the TV is set up. First of all, drat! The Samsung KS8000 is a nice TV. I played Miku both in and out of game mode to see if I actually noticed a difference, and I do. The input lag difference is like night and day. The colors are so vibrant.

They're a solid challenge. Some players like Belzac are blowing through with single-digit deaths, so its hard to balance for everybody.

Like souls games, if you get stuck, just summon co-op help. Bosses can be made much easier with some random helper. Or if you really want, spec into the right magic and you can literally cheese every boss fight. Then you can get back to the stuff you like.

Bat-lady took me a solid 30 tries but I loved it. Great fight, really good balance of abilities and learning to exploit her weakness was really rewarding. Too many Dark Souls 3 bosses I beat first try. Nioh actually has me challenged, I missed that from DS1.

On the moon... they don't make Neo Kobe Pizza.

It took me like 4 tries to get Batlady and I was kind of disappointed that at the end of her fight (in like the last 1/3rd of her life) she just kept repeating the same pattern of "float up, throw paralysis wave, throw knives" so all I had to do was dodge the wave, run close underneath to bait out the dive bomb, and get the critical hit when she gets stuck in the ground then she'd just go up again to start the pattern again. It's a pretty fun fight though!

I just finished the first region in Nioh (three levels and the sub-missions) with 458 deaths. 235 of those were on the one-on-one duel.

I think this game is ruining my spine because I am constantly tensed up in an awkward posture for hours during boss fights

I though hl lost coast was about bloom and other lightning. Did it have actual hdr?

Real hdr is about more realistic colors and better blacks which improve lighting like it does in the last guardian.

Lost coast just had bloom and lighting that got dimmer or brighter when you walked inside from outside or vice versa.

The engine did render HDR internally, it was a tech demo of both that and techniques for getting the most out of an HDR pipeline on an SDR display (so bloom and postprocessing aperture tricks).

That makes sense. So we always were going towards that hdr future, just that maybe it took longer for displays to be consumer level affordable?

Instead of mashing, have you tried just holding down the attack button until you win? That's where the true depth of the combat system lies.

Yea I know that, but as far as switching between enemies and using link attacks (and I guess thats as deep as it gets?). I feel like I'm fumbling around. Maybe I'm expecting combos and the feel of combat to be more seamless and fluid that it's designed to be.

I beat that one on one last night after god knows how many tries, at least 40. It is the hardest thing in the game. No other boss took me more than a few tries and I can get through the levels only dying 0-3 times.

No one man should have all that Psycho-Power.

So for the ps4 pro enabled games, do they just auto-detect the system and put on whatever gimmicks and geegaws they have, or do you have to go into a menu to enable it?

Playing the For Honor beta I know it has ps4 pro features just unsure how to access it(unless maybe its not in the beta).

There are a few games that have menu options about how or if to use Pro mode but maybe not all of them? It seems like Sony just threw the Pro SDK at developers and was like "here use this somehow or don't, whatever who cares".

For most games they autodetect and you do nothing / have no menu option.

For some (example: Rise of the Tomb Raider) there is a menu option to choose how to use the extra power, but you still don't have to do anything to turn it on, only if you want to use it differently.

Helim needed to be invisible.
After purchasing and failing to enjoy Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, and Bloodborne, I decided it was still not yet time to learn from my mistakes and pulled the trigger on Nioh.

I'm... enjoying it quite a bit? It's a looty Ninja Gaiden with a thin Souls veneer. Having only beaten a couple of missions the game still has plenty of opportunities to sour me on it in the future, but for now I'm slapping on all the ninja gear and going to town as William Hayabusa.
