I feel the same way. I don't expect the Switch will sell any better then the Wii U, barely better at best. The Nvidia chip will probably not be enough to attract developers since its a mobile chip that is a couple years old now.

I think everyone is looking at this the wrong way, I see the Switch as more a successor to the 3DS (portable) than the WiiU (home console). The 3DS was wildly successful and I don't think the Switch will be any different, that it happens to be possible to plug it into a TV set is just a bit of a bonus. With Sony all but dropping Vita support, Nintendo have no competition in this space. PS4 will still be going strong for sure.

Oh it's definitely a 3DS successor but Nintendo keep muddying the water with the same 'third pillar' crap that they used when they went from GBA to DS in case it didn't catch on, so we'll see.

Back to PS4 related stuff, I've been using my Gold headset for a couple of years now and its been great for the money I paid so was interested in the new platinum one. (Do have astro A50s I got as a gift but they are a pain to plug in and out of my PS4 the way its set up if I want to pop them back in the PC). Sounded like a cool upgrade and easy to use etc. One thing I couldn't see though was if they work with the PS3 and Vita as the golds did, I kinda assumed (stupidly) they would. Apparently they don't though according the PS Support UK which is a bit of a gyp considering they cost more than 2x what I got the golds for. Did anyone else pick them up and can recommend them or anything? Any other games going to use the 3d audio? That Nier trailer is getting me stoked too.

It's not a 3DS successor though. It doesn't have the battery life to back up being one, and Nintendo has said up front that it is a home console first.

I'll be prrrrrrretty floored if you can average more than 3-4 hours on a full charge switch, and I haven't heard or seen anything at all about the audio quality. I also don't see the need to hybridize console and portables. Like one time I got to keep fighting a tense boss in Bayonetta 2 while going to the bathroom, but that, in retrospect, is not a function I demanded. Probably turning in my tax rebate for a PS4Pro... wondering if we've seen any bundles on the horizon or if it's just time to dig in our heals and wait for a sale. I also don't own a 4K TV, can I just plug it into my computer monitor with a regular HDMI cable?

Honestly I don't care about the actual quality of For Honor. I just find it funny thay Ubi have been pushing the hell out of it and from what I can tell almost no one cares or is even aware of it.

I think reviews have said that the Platinum headsets can work on PC, but without any of the surround processing features.

For Honor strikes me as the kind of game that was meant to accompany a social trend that maybe never happenned, like maybe a big movie or book series could have made Viking vs Samurai vs Knight really cool and drawn it into the public eye... Like they could have added scenes about Vikings and Samurai to their million dollar globe-trotting historical action set-piece movie they just made... But it's just a really cool game coming out in a vacuum with no fan-fare or hype and an AWESOME DLC plan no one will notice or care. Wireless feature of the Platinum won't work with Xbox One or (I think?) PC. Like the gold though, it has a 3.5mm plug that can plug into anything. I use my gold as a headset for Xbox one because I'm too cheap to buy another dedicated pair of lovely headphones

How is Nioh's atmosphere and world design, by the way? Is it just a serious of increasingly lovely fishing villages or does it get more varied as time goes on? Playing through Bloodborne again is making me antsy for some decent worlds to explore.

Based on my small experience in the first three levels it is the exotic world of 16th/17th CENTURY JAPAN and nothing else. Level design is good and the game is a blast but I've not seen anything to indicate theres anything too exotic outside of 'its old Japan'.

poptart_fairy posted:How is Nioh's atmosphere and world design, by the way? Is it just a serious of increasingly lovely fishing villages or does it get more varied as time goes on? There is some pretty good variety. Visually, none of the areas are that pretty. Design-wise, they are pretty great. The level designs are not as streamlined as soulsborne, and by that I mean there's actually a little more to explore. Soulsborne levels have a great economy of design and some pretty streamlined paths to progress. Nioh is similar, but due to the loot aspect of Nioh there are more side paths that serve "no purpose" progress-wise, but offer opportunities for more loot. There are a butt-ton of shortcuts and that aspect is really well done.

Do you eventually go into different environments later on in Nioh? Like, I just beat the bat lady and then did some side missions for that area and the first one so all I've seen are some caves and the fishing village but I assume there's mountainous snowy regions, forests, towns and such?

Yes. You're in villages, temples, and castles basically the entire game, but you get forests, caves, mountains, snow, on loving fire, etc. as environments. There is one crazy cool level that people either love or hate that is a ninja mansion full of hidden doors and poo poo and it's a god damned maze. Really cool though.

Snak posted:...why would I want to replay bosses in Dark Souls 2? Yeah that's fair, bosses can be more miss than hit in that one. Sucks about the entire mission reset. That happens if you leave too right? That seems to be the downside of the mission structure compared to having an open world. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy that nioh is doing its own thing. But the stuff it does differently shows you the upsides or downsides of that compared to dark souls. Even nioh has its own flaws, like how you get so much more junk than dark souls but at the same time random stats means better weapon flexibility and builds. Still would buy nioh 2 on day one.

I'm really happy with Nioh's inventory management despite the amount of loot. It's like 3 button presses to disassemble every non-purple item in your inventory.

I still hate that you cant buy ammo in level. I understand they don't want you to load up between shrines, but drat, ir really really sucks to start a level after you forget. Bullshit.
