Apparently it's a hidden screen on Sonic CD. I could try it out with my copy but it's upstairs and Christ alive who's got the time for that admin.

The funny thing about the creepy screen, is that it's just because the US boss music is dark as hell. The Japanese/EU version isn't nearly as bad.

Hey guys, remember Sonic Crackers? The Chaotix proto?
You know how japan has the whole l/r problem?

It's actually Sonic Clackers.

As in, the toy. Two tethered balls. Much like the gameplay.

It's funny how it took someone stupidly questioning the legitimacy of the game to figure this out. Led to some more interesting discussion also:

Jesus loving christ!! It all makes sense now. Clackers.

It's funny to look into Sonic Crackers / Knuckles Chaotix stuff to see my name dropped and old research linked. I was trying to find some unused sprites from the latter on tcrf.net and realized they weren't there because I had discovered them and therefore should loving re-upload them myself.

The OP in that thread theorized that Sonic Clackers (just typing that... wow) was a prank by demo sceners. Aside from that being absurd from a technical standpoint, Jun Senoue (special thanks in Chaotix's credits) has admitted to playing it before.

What a nostalgia trip.

He's an alien-hedghog hybrid. Eggman found him after sa2 and kept him in a stasis pod until heroes for whatever reason.

Hey, he'll have Classic Tails for company :v:.

Saying that, the one good thing about 06's story is that Shadow ends up not giving a drat about his past or his destiny and grows as a character as a result.

Well, that and the one zoom-in on Robotnik's glasses and it turns out they're a HUD.

Probably because it was healing him since he just fell to Earth from orbit maybe? Though I guess he was also souped up on chaos emeralds so he was probably unharmed? Maybe? If he didn't run out of rings before hitting the ground?

Which level do you think they'll pick from sonic 2 to be in the game? Chemical Plant and Emerald Hill Zone are obvious no go's unless they do something crazy for the latter.

Spiderdrake

I think Mystic Cave, given the media team has posted it a couple times. And Casino Night, because always Casino Night, sigh.

I'm personally hoping for Hilltop Zone. I'd like them to do zones that can expand up and down to add volume without feeling repetitive and HTZ always felt unfinished. (My personal list, besides HTZ, is Marble, Oil Ocean, Flying Battery, Tidal Tempest and Quartz Quadrant)

Spiderdrake

I guess technically we already re-did one level from Generations, why not all of them?

Apparently leaked information puts the release at April 25th, but Amazon removed that a bit later. On the other hand the article implied that Sonic Mania has been "done for a while now" which directly contradicts the official stream, so I kinda feel like maybe the amazon leak doesn't mean much.

I'd love to see Emerald Hill, if only because it has spent a very long time being overshadowed by both Green Hill and Chemical Plant. Also because its music has a rad bassline.

Although speaking of rad basslines, Mystic Cave would also be good.

What zones don't you want to see? Like which are your least favorite from 1, 2 3&K?

Mine are Marble Garden, Sandopolis and Launch Base.

Spiderdrake

There's nothing from 3 I don't like. Well, maybe shorten carnival night zone, it's a bit much.

Actually sky chase and the original water level zone, Labyrinth, are like the only two I can think of I really don't want to see. I'd rather not see Casinoes, but they won't be bad, just less good.

Emerald Hill is the next worst level from 2 but I think they'd fix its problems so that'd be cool.

I'm not a fan of Oil Ocean. I don't like orange, oil slopes are annoying to deal with, the pneumatic cannon thingies are slow, the badniks are surprisingly good at hitting me (like, Metropolis level good) and the music just rubs me up the wrong way for some reason, which is a shame because in most other respects Sonic 2 is my favourite game soundtrack period.

Yeah, i think Oil Ocean is probably the weakest part of S2. I think also for all the reasons you mentioned it was something of a brick wall for me (seriously, gently caress those seahorse bots), and the boss itsself was kind of... eh.

Okay but when the boss shoots the ground-level lasers and blue flames shoot up you gotta admit that was pretty tight.

It ain't gonna happen, but I'd like to see an 8-bit level remade like Scrambled Egg (because it has THE BEST MUSIC) or Mecha Green Hill, but that might be too similar to regular Green Hill to get a pass. Sunset Park with the train set piece would also be great.

I know Green Hill is obviously already in, and it's not difficult to see why, but it and its variants could do with a long break. I wouldn't worry about Sandopolis being in if you don't like it considering the levels we have seen included. Wacky Workbench is the one I'd rather not see come back.

I totally get the critique of Oil Ocean, but it's more of a platformer / not speed level that has an amazing theme we just never see anymore. It feels like in mania they could fix the flaws and work from what it does well.

I always liked getting there as a kid, since it was a total poo poo got real moment, unlike say Launch zone where you just burst in with no preamble. Oil Ocean looks mostly technofied, you know you're getting to the end of the game then.

I hope Mania sells well enough to see a mania 2 that covers a wider reach of Sonic stuff.

I mean I hate the rush games but I'm sure there's good level themes in there, and the 8-bit games had their own stuff too.
