Hahahaha Holy poo poo that must have been an extremely entertaining town hall meeting.

Texas Tribune posted:

RICHARDSON — U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Dallas, faced a raucous town hall Saturday as he sought to defend the GOP’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, among other issues that have spawned fierce opposition under President Donald Trump.

Addressing over 2,000 people, Sessions was frequently drowned out by boos and angry outbursts from the audience. Many of his answers were not entirely audible due to the crowd’s reaction as he began to speak.

“We are going to make the changes, we are going to pass the bill and we are going to repeal Obamacare,” Sessions said at one point, a declaration that gave way to sustained chants of “Vote him out!”

That part where he tries to shame the crowd by saying that people acting so rudely will make it so that no senators will want to hold town halls. :allears:

Yo, I don't know if y'all knew this, but Ken Paxton is kind of a shithead.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...m=.bf18c66da7a2

quote:

Every day at lunch, a handful of teenagers in Frisco, Tex., would pop into room C112, face a whiteboard and kneel for one of their five daily prayers.

It was just a spare classroom, used for everything from teachers’ grading to Buddhist meditation, school officials say. But Muslims at Liberty High seemed to like it.

“Takes like five minutes, instead of having to leave school, get in a car and go to my parents,” junior Sarah Qureshi told the school news site early this month.

“This is the seventh year we’ve been doing this, and we’ve never had one issue,” school principal Scott Warstler said.

Last week, however, top state officials learned about the room — and suddenly Liberty High had a big issue indeed.

The Texas attorney general’s office — famous for once suing a middle school principal to keep a Bible quote on a door — sent the Frisco school district superintendent a letter Friday raising “concerns.”

“It appears that the prayer room is ‘dedicated to the religious needs of some students,’” a deputy attorney general wrote in the letter, quoting an article written by an 11th grade student, “namely, those who practice Islam.”

The only way this could have been better is if the letter on the left hand margin spelled out "gently caress You" with each first letter of each line. Like Schwarzenegger did when he was Governator.

It is Frisco ISD’s hope that this “clarification” will resolve any concerns expressed by the OAG’s office and closes this matter. Ideally, the Frisco ISD would appreciate a “Press Release” acknowledging the District’s compliance with federal and state laws and regulations to clear up any confusion resulting from the March 17th letter and “Press Release.”

That ending is just :discourse:

Pretty Little Lyres
Here's a good writeup about the hearing for HB81 (lowering marijuana possession from a misdemeanor to a ticket) that was held a week and some back:

http://txcann.com/texas-marijuana-decriminalization-hearing-lone-opponent/

I attended, it was a bit slow (as hearings tend to be) but overall I felt good being there to show support. A couple dozen folks gave testimony, with one single guy, a DA from Ector County, giving a pretty weak argument against the bill.

It's almost certain to pass out of committee (if it hasn't already) so it's just a matter of when it gets on calendar and onto the House floor, and then where the accompanying Senate bill is.

Haven't heard any update as to whether the medical marijuana expansion is moving forward, but there's still time left in the session if they can stfu about the bathroom bill...

Admittedly reading only his side of the facts, I'd tend to side with Perry.

But yeah I'm glad to know that campaign contributions can still be used to lean on people with big political clout to get your privileged son what he wants. Seems like a good use of the Secretary of Energy's time.

Went to Beto's Austin event at Scholz Garten today. Pretty cool, although his stump speech wasn't the best. Luckily he has another 8 months to work on it. The general sense I got from the Democrats in the know is that people are more excited about him than Castro, but of course I live in the Travis County bubble.

He bothered to stop in College Station literal months ago and I like his proto-platform.

Not yet, but did you know Beto is literally the nickname his nanny gave him and his father in law wants to demolish the barrio and build a stadium and the bipartisan road trip was just a social media marketing campaign and he's basically the Jared Kushner of West Texas?

Beto is the real deal and awesome. He had a steadfast pledge to not accept PAC or corporate money and seems legit about it (I pressed him pretty hard on this). Additionally, he committed and said outright that Singe Payer is the goal.

Even if he was the actual Jared Kushner, it'd still be an upgrade over Cruz.

Not accepting PAC money seems like a significant disadvantage when trying to flip a seat.

It likely is, but his strategy is not taking that money will be a selling point for him. It's an uphill battle and being able to say Cruz is just a corporate stooge will be a significant advantage. Additionally, the PAC money he'll bring in will be minimal compared to Cruz, because PACs are front runners and they don't think he'll win.
