I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that Eli Manning probably wasn't spending his nights double parked and waiting for a spot to open up within 5 blocks of his multimillion dollar condo's highrise building with a view of the City in Hoboken.

We used to keep an eye out for the parking authority and when we saw them coming run downstairs to feed the meter. My parking fines probably helped to build Frank Sinatra Park

Pete Holmes was interviewed on Fresh Air today and of course Artie's arrest came up. Pete said when someone texted him about Artie his first assumption was that Artie would be dead, so he was relieved when he found out Artie was merely arrested for cocaine and heroin. Apparently that's the level of expectation people have with Artie these days. Well he's not dead, he's only in jail.

The general notion that you can post anything Artie related and get 20 posts of pure, unadulterated venom towards it seems to point towards the current hive mind ITT more or less hating Artie's very existence but they'll flip on a dime when he dies and act like a king among men has passed (I'll now get 10 posts telling me the opposite). I'm probably steering the boat already though by mentioning.

Don't be surprised if people like me also come out of the woodwork, someone who really just feels sorry for a fat old funny man and wish there was something better at the end of a life of a man who brought me so much personal joy. I really doubt he likes how he treats people but it's his cross to bear, not mine to judge.

If you may remember, after Doug Z. Goodstein lost his job when HowardTV ceased to exist he was hired to do the same work for a very well known black radio station program called "The Breakfast Club". He was later fired and the claim essentially boils down to reverse racism and ageism. Richie Wilson is also part of the suit. It's a hell of a read. Apparently this station was so bad that it made the Stern show look beyond professional. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/execs-diddy-revolt-tv-unfairly-treated-white-workers-suit-article-1.3004322

I think the frustration most of us have with Artie, is that for the daily listeners of the show, most will point to him leaving as the start of a different kind of show. But thats how the evolution of the show has gone. Look, maybe you just dont get the show? It happens organically. What do you do for a living? F-Timmy

I still maintain he is the reason that the first few years of SIRIUS are one of the best eras in the show's history, and that the state of the show now and since he left being so sad is a reflection of him being gone. Not that the 2009 era, heroin-fueled Artie was a positive for the show.

It made the show very different and it was great for the first few years, before Artie kind of lost his mojo.

It would at least be WAY better than it is. But yeah, I think we can all agree that Artie on his own = ok to bad, but Artie w/ Howard = Ok to excellent.

Bonzo posted:I bet Artie went to his dealer, snorted some on the drive back home and forgot that he left his stash in the car. Here's you explanation right here. Also nthing the notion that the first few years of Sirius with Artie in tow were peak Stern. hIt wasn't just the fact they were allowed to curse and that they were 100% uncensored with the gloves were in and of itself, but the fact that it allowed everyone to talk they normally would and talk more honestly about poo poo they did. Artie was a really great foil, way more so than Robin and had really really good comedic timing.

I almost feel like Howard's divorce is a better line of demarcation on the two halves of the stern golden years rather than the move to Sirius. Pre-divorce stern was more adversarial towards pop culture and seemed more ambitious and driven towards the show. After the divorce Howard slowed down his creative output with the show and tried to be more of a celebrity both with his dating before Beth and even the move to Sirius. This all happened gradually over years but after the divorce you can see his transformation from a renegade radio show contrarian to a show biz celeb.

What are some of the little touches about the show that always put a smile on your face? Two that come to mind for me are when Hook Nose Mike would call in, and his greeting became obligatory but secondary to the conversation. "Hey there Howard ya hook nosed jew bastid, listen:" My other favorite is whenever Dominic, Bloated Attorney would call in and Fred would do the gurgling noise right away. There's so many touches that Fred adds, it's hard to think of them all.
