Life would be simple in the forest except for Cyril Sneer. And his life would be simple except for The Raccoons.
Oberhofer has a new album out - Table 19: Oberhofer's Ultimate Wedding Mixtape.

It's a cover of a bunch of 80s tracks so it won't be up everyone's alley, but I love it :allears:

Four new gorillaz songs have leaked. Details here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/gorillaz/comments/60cf0s/megathread_all_leaked_videos/

There might be more leaked by the time you click that link, idk.

I've only listened to Saturnz Barz so far but it's good :h:

Aaaaand they're gone.

Short story: some video artist uploaded demos of what looked like stage visuals for the new songs. 4 or 5 were found by people searching Vimeo for the new track titles (as previously leaked). They were password locked but somebody guessed "2017" and that turned out to be the password for all of them.

They were all verifiable because they clearly had Damon singing as well as the feature artists who were previously revealed. Unequivocally the real deal.

Somebody at Vimeo panicked because now the account they were uploaded to is shut down. Welp

Edit: the leaks live on! https://streamable.com/fnsiu

If anyone wants to listen to the (5 now I think) leaked tracks go to the Gorillaz subreddit and sort by new posts. People are putting up new streams and Dropbox links and so on every hour

Personally I'm going to leave it at my one listen of Saturnz Barz. Want to be surprised by the rest when they're officially out :3:

Just because I like a place to rant about the Magnetic Fields. As someone who obsesses over New York, even I was pretty sure the world didn't need another song singing about New York. But holy poo poo "Have You Seen it The Snow?" Is a really simple and beautiful song that might be the most nuanced statement about what it actually feels like to love New York.

Yeah, I thought I was "totally done" with the magnetic fields... I think halfway through "We Are Having a Hootenany" was the moment where I was like "hey, this band is actually awful now," and I haven't really cared about them since. But 50 Song Memoir is really drat good at times.

They're a tricky band - what they excel at is masterfully riding the line between horrible eye-roll poo poo and really good, touching songwriting - but what that means is that when they're even slightly off the mark, yep, their music is just horrible eye-roll poo poo.

just listening to the 4 or so Gorillaz songs leaked, 2 of which are not even the full versions, they sound wild. A madman loving made this poo poo. Charger and Submission are kind of crazy, whatever Andromeda is doing sounds cool, I dig the slow roll of Busted+Blue and Saturn Barz. Busted especially has beautiful lyrics.

I'm sure some people will hate them due to this not being Demon Days II but man I'm intrigued to hear where the gently caress this crazyass album is going.

My main issue with Plastic Beach was that the whole album seemed to run at more or less the same tempo so I'm on board with something more eclectic.

Just a reminder that the Manchester Opera House show(s) was pretty much the high point of the 20-aughts and if it doesn't pick you up after a lousy day, then you're dead inside. Dead. From the bassline in "O, Green World" to the kids in "Dirty Harry" to De La loving Soul to Shaun Ryder being Shaun Ryder... :)

...Goddamn, those kids in the "Dirty Harry" performance are in college and poo poo now, I can't believe this is 11 years old next week.

E: Forgot to note that performance features the B-side "Hong Kong" which I can understand leaving off Demon Days, but goddamn is it beautiful

The D-Sides album had a handful of tracks that could have easily been mainliners they were so good, particularly Happy Landfill which was the original title/intro track and then got booted off. I really hope they tour global, I was lucky enough to see them at MSG years back but would love to get in on it again

America's $1 Funnyman

Does everybody here rock The Protomen? Saw them again recently (with Powerglove), they put on a great show. I love how they start out sort of metal, then their second album is Jim Steinman-esque 80s rock etc, they cover so many styles. Also they're thematically inspired by the NES Mega Man games. And they did a solid Queen tribute album.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DIL9yteJdE

I also hope everybody has checked out Electric Six! I've seen them at least once a year for about ten years, they are the best.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu9Ex-Kf1eE

It's interesting how far reaching the description of this topic is. Also looks like it's the only topic for rock outside of metal, prog rock, math rock, and punk topics? Is this just where you'd post about any "rock" band? Like a hard rock band? Wild stuff. The bands I posted have synthesizers and are indie-ish though at least.

If we're being honest, most of their post-69 Love Songs output just isn't all that great. i and Distortion are fine, but Realism is has only one worthwhile song and is pretty boring.

You should go back and listen to Love at the Bottom of the Sea though. It doesn't have the emotional high points of 50 Song Memoir, but it's a really fun album. "Andrew in Drag" is both the standout and really sets the tone for what it is.

:agreed:

Yeah, the whole trilogy just didn't do it for me. There are some songs I like but I don't revisit those albums like I do all the 90s stuff. Love at the bottom of the sea wasn't the return to form I was hoping for either, I probably listen to that album the least of all.

I just remembered my avatar text here is a Magnetic Fields lyrics lol.

I made the mistake of deciding to listen to the new Mount Eerie, knowing only it was an album about the death of the artist's wife, at 12:30 at night before going to sleep. I don't even have coherent words for how this one made me feel, some mix of transferred grief, weird gratitude, anti-catharsis,, but I'm drat sure I can't sleep.

Dan Bejar had nothing to do with the new album (Newman said he was busy working on his new album + his stuff might not have fit well into this one), which is a bummer but understandable

There are some highlights I still enjoy (All the Things..., Mutiny..., Adventures in Solitude) but just a whole lot of forgettable filler to imbalance it (Challengers, Failsafe, Go Places). But maybe it's just been too long since I gave it a considered listen

Man after the new Shins and Real Estate albums being so mediocre I need some cheering up. I was hoping with a lot of my favorite artists releasing this year that it was gonna be great but man, so far it's 3 strikes.

I listened to that this morning and at first I tried just listening with my eyes closed because I was really tired. Once I got through Swims I was like "yeah, this is too much right now." I teared up a little at the lines about walking to the counselor's office.
