In fairness to Trump and Ryan(I hate typing that) I dont think either quite understood how much the HFC members and their constituency want a full ACA repeal. Not a fix, not a replace, a full loving repeal with nothing else. My rep isnt a HFC guy but still local new sites a full of local losing their minds that even the tiniest piece of the ACA might remain and that is UNACCEPTABLE WE SENT YOU ELECTED YOU TO REPEAL IT.

I don't know what the "requires states to determine essential health benefits" line means. I think that means it makes the essential health benefits non-mandatory, which would kill the bill from even being considered in the Senate.

.... if it even gets there.

Problems look mighty small from 150 miles up.

Trump's going to be wildly successful in convincing his base that he had nothing to do with this dumpster fire and 'courageously stood up for them against the corrupt and inept Republican congress'. Truly the God Emperor cares only for them, and only a further purge of Ryan and House leadership draining of the swamp will bring them everything Trump promised and more.

Meanwhile the rest of the country continues to stare on in fascination and horror.

Good article on how southern manufacturing jobs are coming back, but without unions, workers are underpaid, undertrained, and worked too hard.

I don't work in the automotive industry, but I work for a parts supplier that makes parts for a similarly sized company in the deep south and this article is 100% true. Thankfully there haven't been any fatalities since I've been working here, and only a few injuries that warranted an ER visit (and one that if not for some extensive surgery would have been an amputation). Safety rules, regulations, practices etc. are only followed as long as they are convenient (don't slow down production). I've even seen supervisors encourage less safe practices if it means speeding up production along with a healthy dose of "back in my day, we didn't have guards and I'm still alive" from old timers that should be the ones promoting safety. Safety is only worked on / improved after a major injury, and then the word from management is not so much "we need to keep this from happening again to protect our workers" than it is "we gotta do something so OSHA doesn't fine us". All the while during plant meetings and such talking about how "our employees are our greatest assets".

I'm pretty sure mentioning the word "union" in a positive manner could get you shitlisted.

The company I work for would do the exact same thing if they could but our shop is a closed (union only) shop so that protects us from a lot of that crap. I have 0 doubts in my mind they would be paying us half as much without the union.

I've also had 2 injuries on the job but those were kinda my fault and a construction environment is a lot different than a factory.

I think the thing in the states with unions is that a lot of the south don't want the union to be 'promoting abortions and etc' by making donations to democrats and socialists (bernie), so that's how a lot of anti-union guys frame it, that being part of a union is anti-christian type of thing.

Putin meets France's Le Pen in Moscow, says won't interfere in election

quote:

President Vladimir Putin met French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen in the Kremlin on Friday and told her Russia had no intention of interfering in France's presidential election.

Le Pen, who has said she admires the Russian leader, was visiting Russia at the invitation of Leonid Slutsky, head of the lower house of parliament's foreign affairs committee, Russian news agencies reported.

State TV showed Putin telling Le Pen Moscow reserved the right to meet any French politician it wanted.

So Canada passed an 'anti-islamaphobia' bill which is basically a non-binding resolution that will start a committee to try and curtail all the religious (ANY) descrimination and advise the government on how to do that. So the right goes ape poo poo saying this makes it illegal to criticize Islam etc. And it's even worse on social media.
