Bumper Stickup posted:I've been trying to work out the logistics of sending scrapple and old bay seasoning down to gromit. You could ask RAPA if they do expedited shipping overseas; I know that in the winter they have a service in the US where they pack scrapple in dry ice and ship it out as a service to customers. Old Bay should be no problem. ed: Sorry, they only ship in the winter, and only to the continental US. Pigsfeet on Rye has a new favorite as of 22:47 on Apr 1, 2017 |

Here's a modified recipe for Dirty Rice, a Cajun dish from southern Louisiana. This version uses chicken and sausage instead of hamburger and chicken livers. Seasoning: 1 t Cayene Pepper 1 t Black Pepper 1 t Paprika 3/4 t Dry mustard 1/2 t Ground cumin 1/3 t Dried thyme 1/3 t Dried oregano Ingredient: 500 g chicken 500 g sausage 2 bay leaves 2 T olive oil (or retained sausage grease) 1 cup onion 1 cup celery 1 cup green pepper 2 cloves garlic, diced 4 cup stock or water 1/2 cup green onion 1/4 cup parsley, fresh 2 T coarse ground mustard 2 cup rice (rinsed!) Directions: 1. Mix seasonings in bowl 2. In an 8 quart pot, brown chicken then remove. 3. Brown sausage then remove. 4. Add olive oil and vegetables. Sweat vegetables and deglaze pot. 5. Stir in meat, seasoning and garlic. Cook 1 to 2 minutes while stirring to prevent burning. 6. Stir in stock or water. Simmer 3 to 5 minutes. 7. Add parsley, mustard and bay leaves. Simmer 3 to 5 minutes. 8. Remove bayleaves. Grease/oil will have settled out, spoon off if desired. 9. Add rice, cook. 10. Once rice is done, stir well before serving. Whenever I bring this to cookouts, there's never any left. Accretionist has a new favorite as of 00:49 on Apr 2, 2017 |

I remember eating haw flakes as a kid when my dad was going through radiation therapy and went on a traditional Chinese medicine craze (we aren't Chinese, he just got disillusioned with western medicine and became a naturopathic crazy). I wouldn't say they taste good, but they're kind of compelling? They're impossible to explain.

Bumper Stickup posted:Everybody says this until you try it. Then you love it. Agree 100%. Throw that scrapple in some butter on a flat iron to crisp up and then toss it on a couple pieces of bread with a little dollop of grape jam/jelly. I don't like a lot of organ meats, and I'm not a big fan of grape jelly, but holy gently caress. It became one of my favorite breakfast foods instantly.

Yup, just don't slice the scrapple too thickly, you want it nice and crunchy outside but firm all the way through. Scrapple on rye toast, yo.

On the weird confectionery stuff: You people should try the Indian/Pakistani treat Pan Pasand. It's a boiled lolly that is supposed to taste like Betel Leaves, but instead just tastes like a chemical spill. They're awesome. When I was little my dad brought some back, and a friend of my brother tried them and dubbed them "Dettol Lollies."
