I hate you.
When they were carrying Rudy on a stretcher, was he dead or just seriously injured? Either way, he'd be out of commission for the finale, but if it was made clear, I missed it.

I'm pretty sure they were taking him out to the woods to bury, so I'm thinking he dead.

I think the real issue is that while power duels look cool on comic pages or in anime where real world rules don't apply, in live action it's really hard to keep them from looking stupid. It's really hard to go full DBZ with live action without getting into Matrix Revolutions territory.

Comics Farouk was Shadow King's host body for hundreds of years iirc.

So after that much time they might refer to him/it by that name anyway.

That's why most people in the thread who have specified what they want said they wanted some sort of cat and mouse memory thing. It wouldn't be a straight up powers battle although it's still be difficult to do in a coherent but not lame way.

Telepathy, he read David's mind and sensed the Shadow King. I think he's also telekinetic, hence the bolero sequence. He's not on the Shadow King or David's scale obviously. His twist to his powers seems to be mental constructs like his diving suit and music but that might be more astral plane related than power related.

It's something I personally dislike a lot. Ever since the lovely 3rd X-Men movie, where it really summed it up.

X2: Iceman and Pyro used crazy cool powers, doing all kinds of neat things with them. For some idea of how X2 felt to me, the scene where the all powerful Magneto wipes out a whole squad just by pulling pins.. that felt awesome.

X3: Despite being near freezing water and flaming buildings, Iceman and Pyro shoot orange and blue beams at each other while making poop faces

The whole "shooting beams/energy/whatever" or in this case "colliding energy" is dumb, lazy and unimaginative, all things I don't normally associate with Legion. Yes, I did eye roll a bit at it.

We actually got really good depiction of mental combat earlier.
It was the scene where David was taunting Lenny, who couldn't speak and it ended up David strangling himself.
Power-running was much worse than that.

Nah, they were walking back after David's teleport and kept reassuring him while they were carrying him. I mean it's possible it was a rest in peace thing but it's probably more likely he was written off and we'll never see him again. :v:

For the TV show we just don't know enough at this stage to guess.

Shadow King being something other than Farouk's alias is a retcon in the comics anyway. Even a less imaginative adaption might ignore it the same way X3 ignored all the "Jean was technically never the Phoenix" retcons.

I can't imagine why they wouldn't make as much use of his brilliance as possible.

I'm really hoping we get to see Pete Wisdom in this show someday. He's in a great issue of Legion and the character could fit well into this world. He's something like a mutant James Bond. I think.

Giving us a great character in E1, removing him for the next 6 episodes, and then reintroducing him and fleshing him out is another thing I don't think I've ever seen on TV but it was totally awesome and Hoooooray for gay villains and their beautiful adopted son! Heartwarming and also lays the groundwork for "ok so maybe they aren't the bad guys... but who is?"

Yup. I liked Melanie's character, but I was hoping she died at that moment to add some drama and tension to the show. Now it's like, are there even any stakes in this show if the big bad isn't willing to kill anyone important?

This "someone has to die" mentality drives me crazy. It's like TV has conditioned us to expect and demand character death to establish "stakes". whatever, Hawley don't give a gently caress about what you expect. Fargo season 2 should've made that clear. I didn't make demands on this show, or try to speculate wildly so that what happened later wasn't as cool as my imagination.

Elite
Oct 30, 2010
It's not really that people have to die to establish stakes, it's more that when battling a murderous super-being who can wish you to death in 0.2 seconds you kind of expect a mortality rate higher than 0.

How many people did SK+David kill when battling Division 3? 60? 100? More?
How many people did SK kill when battling Summerland personnel? 2, if you're being generous. He killed The Eye (who's affiliated with D3 rather than Summerland if you want to get technical) and he killed Rudy (after The Eye already mortally wounded him).

Yeah in one case he's working with David and in the other he's working against David, but still it felt like some characters had an unreasonable amount of plot armour.

Yeah, that what's that whole "have you ever tried to unmake soup?" comment SK made to Syd. He planted the seed that if they tried to force SK out of David both of them would die. Syd was absolutely convinced that David was going to die and no one was listening to her.

My take is that was only part of SK's motivations for telling Syd that. The other being he lost control of David and *he* couldn't "unmake the soup" to escape either. I feel the situation was more dire for SK than it was for David. So Syd was SK's Plan B to get the gently caress out of Dodge. I think at that point, SK just wanted out to regroup and get some breathing space to come up with a plan to re-take David and all that power he craves at a later date.
