Just because Liquor's dead, doesn't mean you can just roll this bitch all over town with "The Freedoms."

I assumed it's because Vice is the ultimate "edgy try hard" and teenagers see right through that poo poo.

Vice is weird. Their politics stuff is occasionally really good, like their "This is What Winning Looks Like" documentary, then so much of the rest is stuff like "We Gave This Reporter Acid Took Him to a Monster Truck Show" and it's just awful. Also one of their founders is Gavin McInnes which doesn't help things even if he left the organization a decade ago.

e: Their HBO show is also good from what I recall, and didn't seem like it was trying to be edgy at all.

I don't know anything about Vice Except for a few of their short documentaries that I've seen, but they never came across as edgy to me. They just seemed like a group that wanted to cover unorthodox and sometimes taboo subjects objectively (but let's not discuss that, please). But I guess it's a big network beyond the documentaries.

VICE News (the HBO show) is basically "We sent your barista to Syria" but it turns out the baristas are actually fairly competent investigative journalists so it's good.

I also think it's bizarre for Vice to do so poorly. Did they just not know what it was?

Given that it's pretty low on the awareness axis that seems to be the actual case.

Does including awareness not very seriously impact the coolness figures?

No I think that's why it's a separate measure - like that band you haven't even heard of is very cool.

Well yeah, that too, as it's fairly low on the y-axis as well. But I would guess that they'd do the rankings just among the people who do know the brand.

They should do this with B2B brands and have them estimate coolness based on names/logos.

VICE reflects a 30 y.o.'s idea of cool. Or, if I were less charitable, of somebody with a mid life crisis. Not much overlap with what 15 year olds would like.

Oh there's plenty of overlap, judging the average goon.

As a 31-year-old, my impression of VICE is that it reflects a really uncool 30-year-old's idea of what 15-year-olds think is cool. Like an educational play performed in a highschool.

It surprises me that the NHL is that far to the right (especially to the right of baseball) considering its popularity is mostly in blue regions and the players are all from socialist utopias. But it's also overwhelmingly white and expensive to play.

When this chart's come up before, the explanation I've seen for the WWE is that its fanbase is primarily young and poor and also in recent years more and more Hispanic, though I'm not sure if that was the case when the data was collected in 2008-2009. My own anecdotal evidence is that every wrestling fan I know is a twenty/thirty-something nerd.

The demographics changed a lot. Trump flipped a lot of working class voters who'd been voting Democratic. College educated whites pretty much split their vote, Republicans have won that demographic comfortably since the 50s.
