My reading of it:
3rd picture: Pilot overflew destination. Kept course for 6-7 times the distance (and time) he was supposed to fly.
2nd picture: Oh hey we're over water after keeping course for 1 hour instead of 10 minutes. Let's run a bit around the coast maybe it's a lake :iiam: and we can fly around it.
1st picture: I think I recognize a street lamp over there. Let's fly around this area (which is 5 times the planed distance away from our destination) and see if we can read a road sign from 10k feet.

No pics handy, but If we're going to talk under-rated air museums the one at Hill AFB is surprisingly good. If you're travelling through SLC it's a great stop for a few hours.

$800 in flight vouchers. I might fly once per decade, that would be useless to me.

I suppose. I'm just surprised there were no takers. Doesn't make what ended up happening any less wrong, mind you.

Also I'm disappointed this never happens to me. Why can't BA ever overbook the Calgary flight so I could spend a comped night in London and then use my extra voucher on a club world upgrade?

Supposedly they only offered vouchers and then deboarded confirmed passengers which is supposedly a violation of their contract of carriage*. Really the best indication that they knew they hosed up is that he got back on the plane.

quote:

The company was formed in 1985 as Atlantic Air Transport and was renamed RVL Aviation in April 2007 when parts of the former Air Atlantique Group became independent businesses.

The company began re-locating its core business from Coventry Airport to East Midlands Airport in autumn 2010, and with the completion of the purpose-built hangar facility in October 2011, it closed its outlying base (Blackpool) at the end of 2011.

As well as ad hoc passenger and cargo charters, the company specialises in aerial survey and surveillance and in particular operations from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). Work for the MCA includes surveillance and search and rescue support and providing aircraft on standby for spraying oil spills with dispersant. Originally using a fleet of piston-engined Douglas DC-3 aircraft, the company intends to use the Boeing 737 in the emergency spray role.[3]

Oh, I'll put that one on the list. I'd also recommend the Nuke Museum in Albuquerque as a great, small, underrated museum. Their "air park" outside is very cool. Just a gravel lot full of missiles, planes, trucks, and a viper from the squadron at Kirtland. No barriers, just walk right up and touch a Stratojet or a Nike missile.

Here's a few obscure airplanes that never went past the prototype stage.

This is the Arbalète, the first prototype jet-powered fighter aircraft designed in Switzerland. It was powered by four engines, placed in pairs above and below the wings. It flew in 1951. It was only meant to be a proof of concept aircraft, so it never saw production.

The Aiguillon was a followup to the Arbalète, the main difference in design being the positioning of the engines inside the wings instead of in pods. It briefly flew in 1952. Despite using four engines, it was severely underpowered and it was eventually killed by lack of engine development. The last iteration of the concept was the Harpon, which was supposed to use two Rolls Royce engines, one in each wing root, but it was canceled before the first prototype was completed.

This is the P-16, the last attempt as a Swiss fighter jet. Five prototypes were built, but the Swiss Air Force ended up buying Hawker Hunters before development of the P-16 was finished, and so it was canceled in 1958.

4 hours is better than nothing but you will be blowing through it. It's big and the exhibits are freaking amazing. I took a full day and could have gone back again the next day. We were there on a weekday and the biggest crowds by far were formal groups, like school tours and the like. Not like it was a problem though, you just avoid the exhibits they are at and go back to them after they move on.

My experience with a weekday was empty at opening (about when I got there) so I had the entire shuttle hangar to myself, with two people showing up like 30 minutes later, and then gradually filling up as the day went on - what you'd expect. It wasn't bad at all and was nowhere near as bad as my previous weekend trip. Mind you those two were separated by 4 years so

If you care about clean photography (well, as clean as it gets in there) get your photos of the big ground-displayed stuff early; anything that immediately attracts your attention is gonna do the same for everyone else, so you'll know what to prioritize when you walk in. I know your taste in planes, so when you get in make sure to walk forward to the SR-71 and then ignore that to turn left and walk all the way to the end of the hangar where the Super Connie is :v:
