The weather where I live is very changeable so you regularly find bumblebees that have gotten a bit chilly and tired when the sun clouds over. A little bit of sugar water on a spoon and they are full of beans in a few minutes; it really is very satisfying

 Now I'm wondering how venomous snakes get such vibrant colors, since most of the other vipers and cobras I'm aware of are kind of plain looking (aside from hooded snakes having false faces).

This is half-remembered, half-out-my-rear end, but from what I recall it's because their prey can't see the same colour spectrum so to them the snake is nigh-invisible in undergrowth/tree branches/forest floor. It's also true for undersea creatures as well.

Catch a garter snake and play with it for a bit and your hands will smell so so bad. Thinking about it now - I wonder if they have some scent based defense mechanism.
