So yea I guess I'll have to check every HDR game from now on.

Anyone have any experience buying Samsung REFURBS? I'm in the market for a budget HDR Display and I'm between waiting for the 2017 Vizio M series or HiSense models, OR buying a REFURB 55" KS8000 for $700 Anyone have any opinions? Limited warranty would be 90 days. I also might be able to add a 3yr warranty for $90.

Squaretrade said no when I asked them about refurbs but it was a while ago so policy may have changed. What I wouldn't do is gently caress with HiSense

I had a bad enough problem with a NEW Samsung direct from manufacturer that I would NEVER mess with a refurb. These things aren't super "built to last."

Hello TV goons. I need TV buying advice! My mom's TV just blew up (well, it died on her) so she's in the market for a new TV and sent me to find one for her. She uses her TV primarily for Netflix, watching BluRays, and playing Playstation 4 games. She prefers ordering from Best Buy because she wants the TV to be delivered for her as she doesn't want to actually have to travel to a store to pick it up (she lives in a fairly rural area with long travel distances). Her previous TV was a 50 inch from about 2010, so I'm looking into 55 inch 4k TVs for her as 55 inch is about the max she could fit in the space in her TV room. The price point would preferably be somewhere below $1100, but the lower the better. I don't know anything about any TV lingo, but these are the TVs that seemed to match that criteria: Samsung - 55" Class - (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV - with High Dynamic Range - Silver Model: UN55KS8000FXZA Price: $999 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung...p?skuId=5034800 Sony - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range - Black Model: XBR-55X700D Price $799 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/4804403.p?skuId=4804403 Sony - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range - Black Model: XBR-55X850D Price: $1099 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-55-class-54-6-diag--2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/4801600.p?skuId=4801600 Samsung - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range - Black Model: UN55KU7000FXZA Price $949 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/5146801.p?skuId=5146801 LG - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range - Silver Model: 55UH7700 Price: $999 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-silver/4953902.p?skuId=4953902 VIZIO - 55" Class (54.64" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - with Chromecast Built-in - 4K UHD Home Theater Display with High Dynamic Range - Black Model: P55-C1 Price: $1099 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-5...p?skuId=4352209 VIZIO - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - with Chromecast Built-in - 4K Ultra HD Home Theater Display with HDR - Black Model: M55-D0 Price: $699 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-5...p?skuId=4989100 Samsung - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range - Black Model: UN55MU7000FXZA Price: $1099 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/5773701.p?skuId=5773701 Samsung - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV with High Dynamic Range - Gray Model: UN55MU6300FXZA Price: $799 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-gray/5754304.p?skuId=5754304 I was leaning toward recommending the $699 Vizio or the $799 Samsung, but would love input from anyone here on if any of these TVs should be avoided or if they're all about equal. If they're all about equal, then I'll just go with the cheapest, but I'm willing to recommend something priced higher (like 1100 vs 700) if the difference is dramatic. Neither myself or my mother are crazy TV freaks so if the differences are only noticeable if you're a TV specialist, we really won't give a poo poo. Any advice? Thanks goons.

It is mostly 4K HDR reference material, but some of the GoPro/remote cams don't look so great. If you have a UHD player this is one title that you must have in your library in my opinion.

For a budget of $200, how is a used LG 55LE5500 in good condition? 55", name brand, 1080p, decent but not spectacular reviews overall seems like about what you get in that price range. Is there anything else I should be on the lookout for? Edit: And is getting an older used DLP a disaster waiting to happen as a general rule? Looking at the Sony KDS-60A2000 which was admittedly top of the line when it came out. A Bag of Milk fucked around with this message at 05:01 on Apr 11, 2017 |

So I just got my Vizio M55 TV delivered and I also got a Vizio 3.1 sound bar. The only thing I have to attach is a Playstation 4. Do I plug the PS4 into the sound bar and the sound bar to the TV or PS4 directly to the TV. I had read something online about having to use specific ports or something to ensure the HDR comes through on the PS4. EDIT: Nevermind. Seems like the PS4 needs to be plugged into HDMI port 1 with color subsampling turned on. Mordiceius fucked around with this message at 01:58 on Apr 14, 2017 |

Looking to finally get a decent TV. Been watching a 32" Sansui hand-me-down for the last 5 years...total POS and now that we're in a house, our couch is much further away from the TV...so it's time to go big. So first thing's first, I'm trying to avoid Samsung for unreasonable reasons. Mainly I don't want my TV watching me...but I know that's not fully reasonable. Convince me otherwise, but from what I see on pricing, it's not like I'll be saving a lot of money for equivalent technology. Anyhow, I'm looking at the Sony XBR-900E series. From what I can tell, this is a better pick than a 930D, and the 930E is a ton more expensive and out of my price range. Is that a correct assessment? Honestly it's really difficult to tell the difference between everything at a glance...reviews are pages long, and spec sheets are filled with marketing jargon so you can't tell what the features actually do. So far I've been trusting review summaries, and they all seem to line up with each other on the same handful of models so I guess that's good enough? The debate I'm having right now is on size. Basically I thought 55" would be fine, and it'll fit perfectly on our TV stand. My problem is that everything I read says the biggest regret in a new TV purchase is not going bigger, but we're moving up from 32"...so I can't imagine I'll be all that upset. Frankly 60 would have been perfect, but that's just not A Thing apparently, so I'm in a tough spot. So here's what's in the running: Sony XBR55X900E - $1,500 Sony XBR65X900E - $2,200 That's a LOT of money for a 65 over a 55...I'm not sure I'm convinced of it. I know this is a 10+ year investment, but 50% more for not that much more TV isn't selling me. I think that money would be better used for a sound bar and then some...I can stomach $1500, but $2000+ makes me hesitate. Something to note is that the TV is for TV and movies...I don't have any consoles so gaming isn't a thing.

Doing a group gift for a friend and I think the funds collected puts us around $750ish total. So I'm looking at this dell deal for a M55-D0 $700 + $250 gift card. http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/vizi...tv-home-theater Anyone have complaints about this TV? I know the viewing angle could be better, the sound isn't great, and the TV remote is kinda the most annoying thing ever. But the gift card can turn into a sound bar really easy, and the mount can help with the viewing angle I hope. Anyone think there's a better deal in the price range? Focus is Gaming (4K HDR would be nice to future proof, I know this is going to be the bare range for that.)

Thinking of finally getting a 4K TV. I currently have a 1080 55 inch Toshiba that been pretty nice and two years old, but if I get a 4K TV, I would move that to my bedroom and use the new one in the living room. But is OLED still the way to go, or should I get something else? Also would I benefit getting 55 inch again on 4K, or go 65 or higher?

Should I bother moving my 42 inch Panasonic plasma from 2008 across the country? I'm thinking of getting an OLED around the fall, and I'm not sure if there's anything worth waiting for that might push me to keep the Panasonic a bit longer. I know the Sonys are coming out, as are the panasonics. Maybe those are worth the wait?

If you're happy enough with your current TV to wait until the 2017 holiday season to buy a new one, then wait. Judging from its specifications the B7 will have slightly better picture quality, and by Black Friday 2017 I'll be surprised if the 65-inch set isn't $3,000, or even less. It may even dip down to $2,500 or $2,000, depending on how badly LG wants to dominate the high-end TV market. I'd be really surprised if it goes any lower, however." If I were buying this coming year instead of just having bought last fall, I would probably save for a C7.

At roughly the same price, which is better between a ks7000 (I'm in the UK so I think it's the same as a US ks8000), or LG 910v, both 55"? The LG is OLED but it's curved, I'm not sure if there's any problem with that. I'll be going to a store to see what they look like but is one just better than the other? Not really interested in smart features or whatever but ruggedness, ease of use and mainly picture quality are important. E: I know the samsung is UHD with HDR but this is going to be used mainly for live tv and streaming, how likely is it that these formats are going to actually take advantage of that? I was all excited to rent a 4k movie last night to see my first newer Hollywood whatever thing on a KS8000, but it seemed the Samsung Vudu app doesn't actually play in 4k?? Options only showed SD (lol why is this still a thing) or 1080p HD in the menu, and when looking at movies. Little annoyed at the $2 HD->UHD markup listed on their site taking a $5 rental to $8 but hey that's in the edge of reason for me for new and fancy. Then go with the safe fallback of FandangoNow via app, but look at their movie selection and like no thanks I don't wanna rent random surfer movie I've never heard of for ten dollars . I guess props to Amazon and Netflix for having all their original content in 4k and sometimes HDR10 no bullshit required, wonder what the barriers look like for a company like Netflix to retool shooting and publishing all their content out in their one steam location vs. standard Hollywood etc. to switch ingrained systems over, all the different publishers/locations/formats the content has to get to (theaters, discs, streams). Pearth 2 discs burning a hole in my cabinet all week, anxiously waiting for an Xbone to show up from eBay so I can finally watch something that shows the glory of the new TV. In the meantime Ratchet and Clank (PS4 w/HDR) showed up from Gamefly woo; goddamn it's like playing a Pixar movie, the colors look amazing. teh_Broseph fucked around with this message at 12:19 on Apr 16, 2017 |
