If you want very thin foam, the best approach I've found (in the US) is to pick up the cheap foam core board they have at Dollar Tree or the Dollar Store... one of those places. The adhesive holding on the paper is incredibly weak, and the paper peels right off, leaving you with an eighth-inch sheet of foam. It's not as dense as the insulation foam, but it's cheap and does the trick when you want something thin.

How's that hold up to general play and wear though? Seems like it would end up being fairly fragile.

Maybe only remove one side of the paper for a backing board? I have some of this lying around. I'll try this out eventually.

DiHK posted:Maybe only remove one side of the paper for a backing board? Removing just one side will cause it to curl. But foam can be reinforced by spraying it with a mixture of water and PVA. Going to look into XPS at Home Depot this weekend. I think I could probably buy a 1" or 2" sheet and whittle it down to make streets and stuff in it. It might even work better than what I was originally thinking. Thanks, everyone!

If you're using that thin of foam, I'd reckon you were going to glue it to a rigid backing of some sort. Otherwise, it'll break really easily.

Has anyone seen any examples of making walkways and ramps from the 40k cities of death terrain, or scratch built ones that match the style? I want to use my existing buildings to make a shake wars take instead of buying a whole second set of terrain...

I mean, a lot depends on price point and contents. If it's a steal on overstocked stuff with a few coordinating pieces added to build a theme, sure. If it is a slight discount, probably not.

Does it say it's random stuff anywhere? Given that it's apparently ready to use out of the box, I'd assume it's just a new range.

I'm working on some new terrain projects and I need some hills that are hilly on one side, cliff face on the other, preferably ice-looking (it's a snow table). Can anyone recommend either a good place to buy pre-made pieces that fit this, or a good place to have them made custom? I only need 2 and I don't have the space/workshop setup to grab the foam and make them myself.

Can you get a regular hill mold and make a cliff textured separator to cut it in half?

Anyone have any suggestions for where to find corrugated plasticard suitable for 25mm scale terrain in the US? I want to make some terrain that looks like a shanty town built around the wreckage of a space ship.

I want to make some terrain that looks like a shanty town built around the wreckage of a space ship. Most sign shops have those in stock. I believe Home Depot may have them as well. You can also just look on the side of the road for any of those silly "we buy houses/diabetic strips" signs. My rule of thumb is that if its fallen over, it's free game, because that proves the people doing it don't give a crap if it goes missing or not.

If it's posted on public property it's almost definitely illegally posted and you can just take it. Especially true of political signs.

Ha, well the legality of it aside, I was looking for something a bit smaller scale that what I've seen on roadside signs. I was wondering if there is a good go to shop for this in the US since I would also like to get some of the diamond pattern sheets and other styrene odds and ends. Ive bought from amazon before but its a crap shoot as far as price and availability.

Yeah, corrugated cardboard is what you should be using - it's the perfect scale. Just brush some Elmer's or Modpodge on there when you're done, and you've got a winner.

Mantic launched their Terrain Crate KS - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1744629938/terraincrate-plastic-affordable-fantasy-terrain I kind of wish their options were more granular so you could pick out individual mini sets or detail pieces. e.g. I'd love a ton of those book cases from the Town crate but have no use for a lot of duplicates of the rest of the crate. EDIT: On re-reading the bundles are just for the KS and will be split down into the sub-sets at retail later which is less bad. Hopefully with decent discounts from online retailers Looking at the packs again there's a lot of duplication between sets, though maybe that's just for the promo art and the actual sets will have more variation? Like you though, I want a mix of the different sets. I like all of the Dungeon crate apart from the mine stuff, and don't need all that treasure, and even though the Debris is included in the Battlefield set I don't really care about the rest there. The Town looks good all round but doesn't include the Debris. Bah!

Beware Mantic's pathological inability to acknowledge you bought something, package it, affix a label, inform you they are shipping what you bought, and then give you a tracking number that functions.

Yeah they've had a weird track record with me & friends. KOW2 was fine for me and everyone I know, but Warpath was backed by one friend and they repeatedly hosed up postage despite him contacting them with his new address both via email and through the pledge manager.
