What do you mean by shady? If it's about drug testing, nobody in kickboxing ever tests. If it's about contract terms, they're better than Glory.

Bellator, allegedly, only does their MMA events on Indian land in the US so they can bypass using the host state's athletic commission which means they can skip all kinds of drug tests, medical testing, etc. and the like. It had come up shortly after Kimbo Slice died and some dodgy non-drug testing medical stuff was allowed to slide that under any SAC would've barred him from fighting.

There's other stuff I'm forgetting about.

In the US are kickboxing orgs beholden to SACs like MMA are?

Have Bellator even held a kickboxing show in the USA yet? As far as I can remember they've all been rebranded Oktagon shows by Carlo di Blasi.

Yeah kickboxing is regulated by athletic commissions, I don't know how many of them but back when k-1 ran shows in Vegas the undercard guys would pop for all kinds of drugs and they'd report wacky sub $1000 salaries for big stars.

Pretty sure Bellator have been holding shows in actual arenas for a while now anyway. Joke level sac urine testing is 10,000 times more scrutiny than kickboxing usually receives btw.

So I was signing up for a Muay Thai gym near me here in South Korea, and one of the posters was for some local televised kickboxing organization. I was curious so I googled it and this was what I found from their most recent event.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6GZpv8skNc

It's pretty much peak Korean in terms of halftime entertainment etc. (they do this sort of stuff at baseball games too).

Also, Murthel Groenhart getting pissed at Tongchai for fighting dirty and just unloading punches on him was pretty funny. It was like Tongchai wasn't prepared at all for a guy that could use his hands and he just collapsed completely.

edit: ok Artem Vakhitov (c) vs Saulo Cavalari in the main event was really good.

This is the first Glory show since 33 to have had multiple good fights.

Finally got around to watching Glory 39 and it was pretty good.

The main event was good, Cedric Doumbé might be an obnoxious showoff in the ring, but he is mighty impressive.
Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao is another of those insane Thai fighters with like 150 fights by age 14 and he was pretty drat impressive as well. When Sittichai goes "yo, this is guy is better than me" you better listen. I like him, even if he beat Serhiy Adamchuk who I've grown to like during my short time watching Glory.

The heavyweight fight was garbage, as usual.

Slightly different situation but I paid like 20 bucks to watch this card in New Jersey

https://www.glorykickboxing.com/en/events/view/391

The arena was half full and we ended up walking to about the 5th row. It was absolutely awesome and one of my favorite live sporting experiences. The original seats were good but being ringside was really cool. If it's not too much of a hit to your bank account and Glory doesn't come around your way that often I would leap on it. Quality kickboxing is hard to come by live most places.

Edit - I may have to make catching a live K-1 show a thing to do. I'm only an hour flight from Japan which is like 80 bucks one way.

Dutch Spike. There's an iPPV though.

Watching k-1 through softether VPN. Yuta Kubo has a brother(?) called Kenji who looks and fights exactly like him and beat up some guy pretty bad.

The main part of the card with Takeru and Karen and the tournament conclusion is about to kick off. If you're awake get on this

Takei Yoshiki, who I've never heard of before takes out Leisure in quick fashion. Dropped with a left straight then swarmed after the 10 count before dropping him again with a sneaky right behind the guard for the stop.

Horsed up Kyshenko continues to gently caress dudes up in China in a bit of a stay busy fight:

Kunlun Fight 60 has been uploaded to their youtube channel in full. Lots of KOs, Kyshenko's fight starts at about 43 minutes. There's also a tournament with Yuichiro Nagashima doing what he does best (getting knocked out). But if you have any memories of classic Kyshenko you should absolutely watch his work in China, he's back to cutting more weight than his opponents and absolutely beating the gently caress out of them with hooks to the body

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpxGfYy_iA0

K-1 have also uploaded their whole card, I haven't seen it all yet but the Takeru fight is absolutely worth your time (most of the video is him recovering from a ballbusting nutshot that you can skip through)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4bixfdUVoI&t=5s

Yuta Kubo's little brother was in a good fight too

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGFsTb5DSLU

And Hiroya managed to pirouette involuntarily

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzjMI00A1f8

Cool KO from the prelims

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiRbJxi_BnA

K-1 are probably to invite Saravia back at 55kg because they liked him, sadly they're also going to do a heavyweight tournament in November. I can't see it being anything other than a disaster. They've flirted with quite a few "heavyweight" fights so far, it's always fat Japanese guys that suck. 4 of those guys in a tournament are going to get stomped by mid level fat Dutch guys. On the upside there's going to be a 67.5kg tournament in September.
