Dissidia is a prequel to Final Fantasy 1 so that means it came out before it.

Since Dissidia features characters from FF12, this means that technically FF12 came out before FF1 did.

And this wasn't some guy telling you about Jesus maybe dying and maybe coming back to life 2000 years ago. He's telling Tidus the only way to defeat Sin. Tidus specifically went to the Temple because he was told it was the Summoner's job to kill that giant doomwhale that destroyed his home.

I would think he'd value that information.

I'm not saying he's an actual bad person, and he does undergo character development over the rather long game, but I just don't usually think of Tidus as one of the more dickish MC's.Perhaps he's not, I was just reconsidering things.

I don't know if he knew before going into that temple that it had anything to do with defeating Sin. According to what he says in the temple, he didn't even know what a summoner was.

For some reason I found both the X-2 and the XIII-2 hardcover fancypants art books at Five Below for $5 each. Almost makes me want to try getting through X-2 again.

They also have a gigantic stack of Metal Gear Revengeance for PS3 for $5 and at that price it's honestly tempting to buy a bunch and give them out to my PS3-owning friends who haven't played that wonderful shitshow of a game

Music ranges from alright to really good. Story and characters are an improvement from X. Incredibly fun job system and best implementation of ATB in the series. The combat system is very nuanced, there's an element of timing that you don't usually get in other games and making Chains feels really good.

When I was in junior high, a friend said there was a way to save Aeris that didn't require the use of the gameshark. He also said there was a secret scene where if you bred enough chocobos there would be a scene where Cloud wakes up in the barn and stares at the birds doing it (knowing the game, the birds were probably brother and sister). That seemed like a bigger deal than finding General Leo.

I think a lot of people did the same mistake as I, and focused so much on the quests and hunts that they completely lost track of the story. The story is pretty good and mostly makes sense, but there's very little of it considering the size of the game.

a) I wonder how they got the voices to such a higher quality. Didn't they supposedly not have the original, uncompressed voice files anymore? Did they just painstakingly remaster them?

b) There was a gameplay video that came out a month ago where I suddenly understood a few of the things that characters say during their Quickenings that I never quite made out before which was pretty great.

c) I still want to know more about the sub-job system. I really want to know how thoroughly a character can dual-class.

Glad they're going all out with this one at least.

You can't, really.
You're locked into your board when you choose one.

My memory here's shakier, but I think you can get some skills that are more outside of your class archetype by giving certain classes certain espers so they can use the square as a bridge to the blocked off area.

The remaster is adding the option to choose a sub-job, but we don't know the deets yet.

Even cutting a lot of fluff, reusing 4DS assets, and skipping voice acting...why?

Yeah, it's the thing I wished for the most when I played IZJS a few years back. Now that they're adding it, I really want to know more about how it works. Like, a few things I'd love to know:
  • Does it give you an entire second license board, or is it more limited? That's going to change a lot of balance stuff--like there's no reason to use light armor other than the Brave Suit if you can give a Monk or Shikari heavy armor for the Strength bonus, and having two whole boards' worth of stat-up licenses would let you max out your Strength and Magick much earlier. (Of course, being able to use your sub-job's armor licenses would lead to people putting their Samurai in heavy armor and then wondering why they don't do much damage, which would be pretty funny.)
  • Do you have to choose whether to spend LP on your main board or secondary one? I guess having to split your LP between them could balance out the extra versatility but I think it would just make things feel grindy.
  • What about Esper and Quickening unlocks? In normal IZJS, you have to consider who gets which Esper because they can unlock licenses for some jobs and each Esper can only go to one character. Will we need to decide which license board they go on, or will the sub-job license boards just not have Esper or Quickening unlocks?

I remember playing that translation, as well as the J2E version in the early 2000s. They rendered "Bartz" as "Butz" and "Cara" as "Krile" but it was a really well done translation.
