I guess there's not a lot of downside for the military. You get more buff troops and the biggest health consequences will probably manifest after they retire and--if they really wreck their heart--potentially shorten their benefits period.

I heard dozens of first hand accounts of usage in Army SOF, such as rangers and SF, so they were second hand accounts technically. Anyway, even if only a few were true, it plays out the same way. Also, everyone I know who has made it through those communities and still has their wits about them echoes a sentiment that in those types of units if you weren't ripped, you were literally without credibility.

Having to deal with RTB fairly regularly and occasionally batt, you'd have most mid level NCOs and and some officers were twinks that were basically army "strong" and not much else, most of your E4s and officer types were normalish size guys in really good shape. And then the roid monsters where there could be absolutely no mistaking that they were shooting horse hormones right into their balls, that were nearly always SNCOs. Hung out with some some PJs in Korea for the day and they were basically Captain Americas, but if they were juicing they were keeping it under control and not making it wildly obvious. It's not often that I'm the tiny one in a group.
