New Portugal. the Man song that came out yesterday, really cool sampling of Richie Havens (after all, the album is called Woodstock). I like this even more than Feel It Still, and I thought that song was pretty awesome.

ah cool! I like it a lot instrumentally although yeah the instrumentals in particular sound a LOT like a Radiohead track.

Something doesn't quite sit right with Drosde's vocals though - the vocal melody is a bit underwhelming and it feels like they've over-processed it a bit. They always heavily process their vocals but this time it doesn't feel like it "fits" the backing track as well as before

Still forming an opinion on the LP as a whole, but there's some good stuff on Ásgeir's Afterglow, like "Unbound"

When I saw them they just seemed totally disinterested and their music just isn't good enough on its own to make up for it. Pair them next to an amazing live act like Japandroids and they're gonna look like poo poo.

Also my feet kept getting stepped on by the dreaded teens

I thought I had read Japandroids music doesn't translate to live very well, or am I wrong? I saw the tour pop up and am interested, but need to know what they are like.

I saw them in Vancouver a couple months ago and thought they were great live. I think I have a short video clip I can upload if you're interested? I highly recommend seeing them though.

The band only makes records to justify being able to play live, or at least that's what I remember hearing around Celebration Rock. Unsurprisingly it's fun to sing The House That Heaven Built with a 1,000 other people.

I don't know about the new album as I haven't listened to it enough but Japandroids on the Celebration Rock tour back in 2013 at the High Top in Memphis before it closed was one of the greatest small venue shows of my life. Blew the doors of the place

A new Mew album came out recently and it's really grown on me, I think it's easily their best since like 2005. "Carry Me To Safety" is especially great.
