A shitty post? This calls for a dance of deduction.

As far as I'm aware, KI is the only fighting game where numerous people transferred from online to placing top 8 at majors consistently.

Someone answer my questions in the KI thread.

The only other fighting game I know that has a lot of online warriors who quickly became top players is Skullgirls.

I would assume pristine netcode is the answer.

Then again, I did read an article that said Punk from SFV was an online warrior prior going to locals.

online is the new arcade

lots of people get pretty good within a group of regulars. that group of people enters a tournament. usually a couple of those people are good enough to survive in the tournament scene (usually due to time or natural skill) and stick around with the other tournament people and merge into that group instead.

the people that survive the online -> regular group -> tournament transition made it out of two groups of people you've never seen.

also most of the top level players you see in most games have been pretty good for YEARS but didn't transition into top players until recently and most of them did get good via online or online -> offline group.

Has making a living playing fighting games from Twitch impacted the amount of top players there are now?

No one makes a living playing fighting games on twitch, so no.

e: To clarify and not be a dick, barely anyone makes a living playing fighting games, it doesn't have esports money. Lots of the high level tournament guys stream for a little pocket change sometimes but they're not lifers and they're not 'streaming personalities' per say.

There's a handful of decently popular streamers who do play fighting games but they mix it up with other games constantly and they're not really top 8 guys. You'll see em on commentary at events and stuff sometimes so they do float around.

EVO will do big streaming numbers, but there's no individual players who have streams as popular as say, Arteezy with the DOTA crowd. I think, anyways.

And if fighting games are meant to resemble fighting, then making every action executable by the power of your mind alone is a lot closer to realism than pressing buttons. If I want to fight somebody IRL, I just move my body around with the power of pure will. I don’t even have to think "punch" to do it. It just happens. That would be an amazing experience to have in a video game.

idk about SFIV and MvC3 as being good examples of games that converted online warriors to tournament players. SFIV, had 2, Smug, & Wolfkrone but it ran for about 7 years at Evo. I think that's kind of a low number for the time frame. Most of the higher tier MvC3 players came out to locals fairly often from what I remember.

Has anyone played Injustice 2? Is it just a typical NRS game?

I think sonicfox makes flat out the most of the fighting game players in lump sum at least, and even he just kinda streams with no commentary IIRC.

In general most esports players get spurts of money and what they do from there with it is what makes or breaks them.
Usually the streamers who make the money, as you said, do one of 2 things, have a huge following already, play every single game possible and have a shtick.
Like that lifecoach guy invested super well but I'm not sure he counts because he invested poker money.
Lirik basically has a 9-5 thats streaming whatever.
MoonMoon plays overwatch for god knows how many hows a day.

Pretty much. It's Injustice with faster walkspeed, safe recovery moves that use meter, a less obnoxious interactible system, etc.

There's also a gear/loot metagame that you don't really need to engage with if you don't want to.
