Speaking of race documentaries, I watched this one on Emmett Till the other day and it was very good. Worth watching if you hadn't heard his story before. It all happened in 1955. He was a 14 year old black boy from Chicago who was visiting family in the South when he whistled at a white woman. That night, a group of white men showed up at his house and lynched him in an extremely gruesome way. It ended up being a very significant event in the history of the civil rights movement thanks to the dedication of his family, who refused to let his death be in vain. https://youtu.be/bvijYSJtkQk

It's hard to believe that it's been almost 16 years and there has still been no definitive documentary about September 11th. At this point I almost feel like Ken Burns is the only documentarian that would capture the scope and magnitude of that day. Maybe I'm wrong.

In all seriousness it took a lot longer for Ruby Ridge and the Oklahoma City bombing to get good documentaries made (2017!) so I would imagine we just need some more time to pass before something good gets made. Either way, while not comprehensive of the years to follow, naturally given how quickly it was done, it is easily the best documentary about the event. That's some extremely harrowing poo poo and I remember my entire family watching it when it aired, just dead silent for like 2 hours.

The craziest thing about Mommy Dead and Dearest is that it's extremely similar to a case from 10 or 15 years ago, to the point where I legitimately wonder if that was intentional. So messed up.
