Honestly, the worst part of this season is how little Ru visits the werkroom before a challenge. It's the weirdest feeling thing about this year, and goes hand in hand with mini challenges being gone.

Some of the best moments in the show have been Ru goofing off with the girls out of drag, and it's sorely missed.

Yeah, they were, uh, somethin'.

e: I don't even mind the kumbaya mirror moments, they just feel more forced than ever before. Usually stories like this would emerge either in Untucked once the girls were closer (or due to a msg from home) or on the main stage. This year you can practically see the producers bringing up a topic and saying 'go'.

There's definitely a Once an Episode moment planned by production thanks to the editing, I think someone clocked from the queens' makeup that the Being Gay In Russia Mirror Moment was actually taken from a prior episode and placed wholesale in another episode. So bad.

Val and Nina tried to improv.

Improv is HARD and they had little to no experience.

Yep, Sasha was putting on her Dietrich makeup for Snatch Game if I remember right. Like two or three episodes of space between when the convo happened, and when it aired.

im watching the pitstop recaps with raja for the season to date and her guests keep implying valentinas confidence is more than 10 months in drag so her meltdown makes a lot more sense to me, poor baby had her game face on hard and she let it slip once and it all went to poo poo :(

Yeah, it made me believe she's only being doing drag for ten months. Clearly she's been putting herself in drag longer-- iirc she was at Drag Con in drag a couple years ago-- but I definitely see that maybe she hasn't been performing as long as she's been perfecting the look.

It probably didn't help that she's been unanimously praised by the judges since day one.

me too. by far the most crushing exit this season, maybe ever. i can't think of someone who went from "potential finalist" to "catastrophically bad" so quickly.

Should have done Slay the Walking Drag with Nina pulling off some sickening zombie-couture and Valentina with a katana

Echoing the shock of losing Valentina. Ru was quite obviously super pissed and didn't even bother to come up with one of those nice half-sad half-apologetic goodbye line for Valentina. I think maybe she won't be back for All-Stars.

Tammie Brown both refused to lip sync, then told Ru off in the reunion, and she came back and is still close with WOW. Valentina had a very good exit as far as how messy it could have been. Ru was clearly disappointed (and surely wanted to send Nina home) but Val was edited in a very sympathetic light all episode, where Nina had a much shadier edit despite staying.

I'm sure they'll ask. Maybe not for AS3, but certainly for 4. It's down to whether she wants to return.

As far as trainwreck acting challenges go, that one was at least somewhat entertaining and not too cringeworthy.

Though they really should've done "Valentina Standing in a Diaper Smiling in Silence while Nina Argues with Imaginary Critics" the show.

I'm a neurotic over-preparer, and I would wager Val is as well. Same reaction. You think you know your poo poo top-to-bottom, you think you know what you're doing, then one thing goes wrong and you're suddenly a baby fawn and your legs are shaking and all you can do is stare helplessly around as you fall.

In that light, I agree with Tropo…If she learns from her mistakes, polishes her drag up enough to handle the occasional missteps, and this really did shake her awake to the fact that she can't coast by on being cute and upbeat (especially in All-Stars where sometimes the dividing line between winning and going home can be as thin as "One of the judges didn't like your runway accessories as much as the other girls'"), she'll be a goddamn terror in AS3. This may be the lingering illness and sleep deprivation talking, but I think she could be a Violet-level threat with some polish.

valentina feels like the first elimination this season that actually matters.

aside from eureka, the rest of them have felt pretty clearly telegraphed and unfortunately felt relatively inconsequential. it's taken the first half of the season to get to a point that feels like it has dramatic weight. in that regard it's a shame eureka and kimora blac went so early; i think they could have brought some strong bitch game to counter out alexis as the sole villain and stir up some frivolous drama.

also god drat as much as i think she rocks, cynthia was a frustrating letdown.

I was pretty sure i had posted all of the good things in the thread, but if you say that's true then you know what, sure. Although I'm pretty sure most of my posts got the biggest laughs. I am a broadwáy queen after all, haHa!

God, in all the Valentina drama I had completely forgotten what a piece of poo poo Alexis was being during the judging. Her whole attitude is way more insufferable to me than Nina's because at least Nina always looks interesting. Alexis is possibly the most forgettable queen in the show's history to make it this far. Every interaction with her just feels like Jenna Maroney from 30 Rock on tranqs. She derails pretty much every conversation to be about her, for absolutely no reason.

I was really happy that Peppermint told her off on the runway. I'm sure we'll get a tear filled phonecall from home next week in untucked to make us feel bad for her or whatever but i literally forget that she's in this season before and after every runway. She has not done one look that was memorable for being good this whole season. Dumpster She Hulk was memorable for the :wtc: factor only.

I'll just have you know, that clever joke wasn't yours originally. I've been telling that clever joke on my youtube channel for years.

I'll echo the comments about Alexis. We get a lot of excuses from her on the runway as though she has to explain any criticism to the judges. Trinity had a rough time at the roast last week, but at the judging she knew better than to try to explain why her jokes were actually funny and clever. Alexis has to learn to just take a critique without an elaborate "Let me explain why I wasn't quite as funny as my sisters...".

Is it just me or is Nina lightening up more and more every time she's been in the bottom? She might just be getting some confidence from winning the lip syncs but I think she's starting to realize/think that she's not going to win and just starting to have some fun with it. She seemed to really like working with Valentina and was content with going home based on the challenge. Her attitude was also way better with the judges.

Easy Salmon Recipe

Is it just me, or is Ru not having the queen's poo poo this season?

She mocked Kimora mercilessly for faking a breakdown confession moment over padding.

She made Valentina take off her facemask and actually (fail to) lip sync.

And, despite the fact that it was pretty obvious that losing team had to LSFYL against each other, she called Alexis up to be bottom 3 just to prove a point about her stupid "I'm not throwing you under the bus, BUUUUUTTTT" moment.

I would have been okay with Alaska until I watched All-Stars S2.

I love Bianca, but that's because I'm a bitter, spiteful person, and i like seeing that facet of me reflected in garish sex clowns on my teevee box.

I could see him going with any of the first few winners...Tyra, BeBe or Raja. Past that, maybe a fan favorite like Raven, Jujubee or Pandora. That's about it, really.

I strongly suspect Drag Race was a pet passion project for Ru that has become just a gig. It's also kind of just achieved its purpose in getting Ru off the Z List. Not that this was the original point of the show, but I'm sure it was her ultimate goal.

Regardless of the reason, however, I think it's true that it's not the same Ru that we got back at the start and that a lot of the satirical, goofy fun of the show has been replaced by drab seriousness and rote tradition, as is true for most reality shows over time (see: walking zombie corpse Project Runway). The mocking irony is just played straight now, and this show should always be the opposite of straight! :gay::sigh:

Edit: Also I have no idea who should be Ru's replacement. Whoever it is has to be an excellent and charismatic host, and I honestly don't know who can match that. Bianca has too much of a mean streak and Alaska is too flat. But I'll take whatever over no drag race at all.
