They sell a giant bag of limes for $8 while my local grocery store sells 2 limes for $1.50.

Costco's fruit is only not a good deal when you can't finish what you buy.

no compassion here friend! Costco makes about $2 billion in profit every year. this is the magic of capitalism. maybe you should renounce your filthy socialist way in the face of such fantastic evidence of the great value of the profit motive :911:

According to the wiki you posted it differs by state. So maybe it's legal some places to detain and illegal in others? They don't actually give the states. It is here I post maybeitsboth.gif

More importantly, please no one steal from the Costco; they are a true institution of good and a beacon of appropriate business practices unto other, lesser businesses.

We at Whole Foods will continue to look smugly at the Costco masses, but re: shoplifting, our annual sales losses due to shoplifting were around a half million dollars. We have several armed security guards on call in the building, at least 2-3 undercover guards walking through the store all day long (they actually carry baskets with food to blend in and have kevlar lined backpacks) and there's a room in the back of the store where they take shoplifters to be held until the cops arrive. Several times I've seen people being lead out in handcuffs. I didn't realize how seriously retail stores took shoplifting until I started seeing how they operate from the inside.

After reading all the Costco hot dog talk, I picked up stuff to make my own dogs last week. Brioche buns, organic grass fed uncured dogs, house-made relish, and organic stone ground mustard - about $30 for 8 dogs, but it was good. :smugdog:

Costcos margins are actually some of the lowest in retail because they make all their money on memberships.

It's a wonderful business plan.

Unless its changed, they have a fixed margin cap. I think like 8 percent for regular items and 15 percent for Kirkland signature items. Whole foods works around the 35% mark.

So there's this Sony bluetooth speaker I've had my eye on for almost a year on Amazon; I spotted it yesterday at the mother loving Costco of all places for $100 dollars and nabbed one. It was meant to be a gift for a friend but I popped it open to test it and it's so god drat good that I'm seriously contemplating holding on to it and either buying my friend another one or something else. Blesss u Costco for this frivolous conundrum

oh and when I renewed a few weeks back, the employee notified me that "holds" had been placed on my account for bad checks. I've never paid for anything in a store with a check because I'm not an octogenerian and asked when the hold was placed. It was right when my membership was created :psyduck:

it was supposed to stop me from making purchases but I used my card for an entire year without a single issue...

Costco food court employees are fast food workers working in a non-revenue generating department and they're typically treated as such.

I went to Costco the other day and one of the free samples was the certified 1/4 all beef hot dog. I ate one and overheard another patron state that she had been coming to Costco for her entire life and just now decided to try a dog. If you can call that living I guess. If it were me, I would have killed myself in the store knowing all the wasted time I had accumulated not eating the hot dogs there. I bought a dog after my shopping was done and refilled my drink afterwards like the way the Good Lord intended and always will intend for us to do.
