George Conway, Kellyanne Conway's husband, was up for Justice Department Civil Division head in the administration. He pulled out a while back. He's now actively making GBS threads on Donnie. https://twitter.com/gtconway3d/status/871746245630590980 In case it gets deleted: These tweets may make some ppl feel better, but they certainly won't help OSG get 5 votes in SCOTUS, which is what actually matters. Sad. https://t.co/zVhcyfm8Hr Wapo confirmed that it was him: https://twitter.com/mattzap/status/871753693699375104 facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 17:39 on Jun 5, 2017 |

MA-Horus posted:WHAT Don't worry, it's toast. https://twitter.com/mikedebonis/status/871765751413321729 They're trying to float privatization as sort of like the Canadian system. The airline industry is lukewarmly in favor of air traffic controllers going to a nonprofit corporation, except for Delta, and Delta left the trade lobbying association over a dispute about it. It's going nowhere in a hurry, it's just that there's a bill in the hopper in Congress, so Donnie is holding a fake signing ceremony.

Would there be any way to prevent the thousands of eligible ATCs from retiring with the public employee benefits they earned? Like without sending in the national guard and making them work at gunpoint, that is. After that, would they even be willing to try privatizing the benefits those controllers have earned? Like sure ok they retire and the industry loses 10k skilled employees in 90 days. Would there be any kind of basis for a threat to say "if you leave during this you get nothing?"

Richard Bong posted:Can you go into a little more detail I must have missed this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_Air_Traffic_Controllers_Organization_(1968)#August_1981_strike The old ATC union threatened a strike unless they got a 32 hour week and better working conditions. Reagan told them if they went on strike they'd lose their jobs. The union figured they would be fine, since if they got fired they couldn't be replaced. Reagan fired them all and blacklisted them from Federal civil service for life. Military ATC's were sent in to manage the workload until new hires could be trained in.

Richard Bong posted:Can you go into a little more detail I must have missed this. There was a union. Holy Saint Reagan, peace be upon him, didn't like unions. He fired every single one of them because they dared to do what unions do, namely not work and threaten the money. Surprise, now we have basically the entire country's air traffic control staffing knocking on retirement's door at the same time. Oh also it was a warning shot across the bow of every single other union in the country that they were completely and utterly hosed, totally powerless, and would be crushed if they did anything uppity like force capital to accept the existence of labor as anything other than replaceable cogs to be given the minimum maintenance and then discarded afterwards. Shockingly union membership in the US is abysmal now, because unions can't actually do anything anymore.

Ronnie was once the head of SAG, so he was even bad at hating unions.
