I did one in college thinking it sounded easy. It's not so much the alcohol that gets you as opposed to the bloating.

Needless to say, it was not repeated.

They put tape on the ground so that actors know where to move within a scene. Unless there's another use that they're referring to that I'm not aware of.

I love how on the actual character pages, they summarize that...property...as quickly as they can just to get past it. And that the fandom just pretty much ignores it.

The TF wiki is great because it truly understands what the point of all the cartoons, comics, and movies is.

Oh wow, that page for Kiss Players is an interesting read.

quote:

This reaction took a sharp turn with the unveiling of the Dengeki Daioh manga. Although not featuring any explicit nudity or sexual content, the comic consists of a virtually unhalting stream of images clearly designed to evoke various violent sexual situations, from the endless streams of viscous, white liquid that frequently splatter over the scantily-clad-to-nude cast members, to cowering, flush-faced, teary-eyed girls pressed against walls with their hips raised into the air, to the most (in)famous of all, the distinctive image of the Legion's blatant penis-tongue, leaking goo from a goddamn urethra.

They're phantasmagorias of CG excess, sexuality, and violence. The third one is basically a first act and then over and hour of the most kinetic, insane robot violence you'll ever witness. They're not exactly good but they're pretty excellent mirrors of late stage American capitalism. Michael Bay is incredibly adept at what he does.

Roger Ebert's Transformers 2 review is one of my favorites. He gave it one star. He gave the first one three stars.

Roger Ebert posted:

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is a horrible experience of unbearable length, briefly punctuated by three or four amusing moments. One of these involves a dog-like robot humping the leg of the heroine. Such are the meager joys. If you want to save yourself the ticket price, go into the kitchen, cue up a male choir singing the music of hell, and get a kid to start banging pots and pans together. Then close your eyes and use your imagination.

He also mentions it in his G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra review

Roger Ebert posted:

"G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" is a 118-minute animated film with sequences involving the faces and other body parts of human beings. It is sure to be enjoyed by those whose movie appreciation is defined by the ability to discern that moving pictures and sound are being employed to depict violence. Nevertheless, it is better than "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

The first is passable (just) basic-cable rainy day fodder. The second is a ball of godawful racially-unfortunate incoherence no one with an IQ would enjoy unironically. The third manages to not just be a bad movie, but morally repugnant and revolting. I haven't seen the fourth, but I hear it's so long that the first showing will wrap up just before the fifth movie comes out.

EDIT: Enjoy this video of the two new autobots they added in the second one.

1 is a fairly 'predictable' action movie, 2 is way, way crazier. It involves teleportation, star-destroying weapons and has the weird racist side characters.

The third movie is basically a disaster movie around the destruction of Chicago, with the dude from Grey's Anatomy trying to gently caress Sam's girlfriend. It also has Malkovich acting like a lunatic CEO and a bunch of wild set pieces. Weird foreshadowing of 'Evil Spock' leads to a Leonard Nimoy traitorbot. Basically, dig up the other TF thread an have a read; become one of the CD elite who understand that Bay is cinema magic made man:

https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3571842&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

The PDF is worth a scroll, if only for the stuff about Optimus Prime being a total fascist murderer who attempts to remove and destroy the identities of his working class enemies.

#4 was weird. It's kind of a retread of the other films, but ditches the cast and adds Kelsey Grammer and Mark Wahlberg (this is an improvement, I believe). It features robots turning into CG pixel storms, dinorobots and Optimus being the fascist we all know and love. They also finally put 2 + 2 together and hired Skrillex to make robot dubstep sounds, about the time he moved away from that entire genre, ironically.

Transformers 1 was pretty good when they were focusing on the action, and garbage when they focused on the plot. Unfortunately, as the guys pointed out in the podcast, there isn't nearly enough action, so it's an alright but mostly bad movie. Transformers 2 is basically irredeemable, and involves a giant robot with nuts. This isn't just hinted at either, one character identifies himself as below the robot scrotum. I hate that loving movie.

Transformers 3 was almost on it's way to better. The attack on Chicago is actually rather impressive, and a way better "city destruction" city than The Avengers (which made it even harder to watch the latter, as Transformers 3 came out first). Looks great and moments of tension and peril. But the plot, again, completely sucks and makes no sense (what exactly did Patrick Dempsey think was going to happen to him had they been successful?), Megan Fox has bailed out and been replaced by someone who straight up cannot act, and the movie doubles down on "Isn't the military awesome?" even more so than the usual Bay fare.

I finally learned my lesson and I haven't seen the 4th one.

fake edit: Oh, and Shia is pretty awful in all of them. And I don't normally mind him. Well, until he semi-recent multi year meltdown he's been having.
