dont worry. you would have spent hundreds of hours on it and gotten scammed by any number of the "currently most reputable exchange" that have popped up, and settled for itunes gift cards valued at a quarter of the supposed price of bitcoin that you would only sell on samart. net profit: $4 per hour spent (optimistic and unrealistic)

If there's fakeposts circulating around with the prevalence you say, even a few, that means a chance exists that someone is en masse manipulating the currency to their own designs. This means you have artificial market forces trying to control the currency, under the auspices of simply slandering it.

No it means people have a narrative that is "dumb redditors try to mine bitcoins and lose money in the process", and twist every single story into that narrative so that they can make fedora and m'lady jokjes. And they were too busy going "hurf gonna buy some magic cards on the Mt Gox exchange, did you know that exchange was originally used for Magic The Gathering Online Exchanges that's why the acronyms are Mt Gox" to see that it was getting pretty dumb.

Ok, I should just advise you that those kinds of market forces DO EXIST in currencies outside of bitcoins, so if you see something LIKE that, you should just remember these words I posted here.

I've like long suspected that a bunch of people/entities decided they needed to create horses in the BitCoin game, which is part of why I never touched it; it just looked like too much of a messy market, even for someone outside-looking-in. The opportunities for money laundering would naturally attract Mafia-esque entities, and people whose sole purpose is to make as much money as possible in a largely unregulated environment.

Yes indeed, even IF you make money on it, it's always going to be rigged. The exchanges will always steal your money. Finally, even if that doesn't come to pass, you can only use the bitcoins for money laundering, child porn, and drugs. This is all part of the standard goon spiel unfortunately.

Like it doesn't just cover the mining, it's the whole thing. The mining is rigged, the exchanges are rigged and will fold or steal your money or refuse withdrawals, organized crime got there, everything is fake, nobody will use it as currency, cp and drugs, the list of things that goons saw in their crystal ball is pretty extensive and seems to be pretty wrong over time.

I have a somewhat personal stigma because I had to go into a long conversation with my aging mother about not buying bitcoins because she heard about some rube try to promote it on a radio show she listens to every day. Back when they were 1,000 bucks a pop. I knew nothing about them since, but just hearing the surface of decentralization and anonymous stuff and how weird wallet transactions were ticked me off and I had to tell her it was a bad idea.

Coincidentally, I think this occurred back in February 2014 during the Mt.Gox collapse, I know this happened in the later half of a pretty lovely winter during an event like that. Not surprisingly, she looked at it again next week from sheer curiosity and everything crashed down, she thanked me for talking her out of a bad financial decision, and she never bothered looking into it again.

Then I found out how incredibly retarded everything about it was from the origin to the concept of honest ponzis on something awful, and I've held it as my pretty little enemy since.
The trick is to not touch the poop, but instead sit at the edge and point and laugh at the poop.

It's for the same reason that I'm also not really happy about it; it's interesting to me, but the people that seek to use it for the most part are there to:

- Exploit it
- Cut me out of it for better market control
- Make fun of me for not participating outside of my casual interest and occasional desire to read about it.
- Be really loving bitter??

Between the massive amount of "apparent" problems, and the inherent sodium content of the positions defending the currency method as a whole, the whole market even just LOOKS like it's occupied by really salty and lovely people. I keep drawing parallels to EVE Online, but the same FYGM mentality seems to have permeated and saturated the cryptocurrency community (with at least one notable exception so far), so it's less of a Research and Development effort, and has now attracted even large banking entities who probably belong to the first two bulleted demographics above.

The whole Bitcoin environment is a lawless landscape that naturally attracts that type of person. Problem is that that type of person generally also can't be trusted since they keep trying to one-up the real world as well.

Most Bitcoiners, being libertarians, believe that that's a positive since regulation is the Devil. Which is why it's funny to see them reenact the last 300 years of economics in 10 years.
