It's real good, but I wonder if this means they finally settled the dispute over the name with James Murphy.

Also they said in a radio interview that it won't be 10 years until we get their next album, which is good news :v:

DFA is definitely a one-album band for me. There sound can't carry anything past their debut and everything this release since then has been meh.

I've seen them live twice in the past few years and it's loving bonkers that they can get the sounds they do out of just two people :stare:

Their two EPs are really really good, too. I think the cut of Romantic Rights on the EP is better than the album version.

I don't know if it was because it was a smaller venue, but they were just so loud in a way that I wasn't expecting. My ears were humming the next day.

When I saw Danny Brown at First Ave it was my first mainroom show since DFA1979. So, around 2 years or so. They loving destroyed. I was thankful I stayed upstairs and was able to just take it in. I'll wait for the album, but I'd probably see em again if the album isn't terrible.

Also, agreed w the above poster. Their EPs rock.

I've known about it for a while and thanks for the link. I may hear a song or two. The problem with a leaked album or songs that are unfinished is you get an expectation of how it should sound and maybe, one day, he might release something (???) and I'd like to be surprised.

It's not quite Carrie and Lowell but that's pretty much peak Sufjan at this point so I wasn't expecting Planetarium to top that. Pretty solid album imo, although I'm thinking it will really shine in a live tour setting.

The new Chon album is out (Homey) and it is an excellent disc. It builds on the groundwork laid in their first album, but they've added in some pop and electronic influences to a few tracks. Of course there's still a good bit of guitar virtuosity on the album, but they've restrained themselves a bit to have everything fit in the "laid back and chill" theme that's felt throughout the tracks.

You've got a really good instrumental track here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQcp3UWQOmM

Then on the same album you've got a kind of electronic pop track:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPXPURGP-6k

Taken apart it seems like a pretty dramatic stylistic shift, but when you listen to the whole album everything fits together so well.

I like you!
In the past, the worst criticism I've ever been able to levy against arcade fire is maybe I thought a song or two was boring. This is the first time I've ever thought I was listening to an actively bad song from them.

For me it's just too shrill and the lyrics are just way too on the nose. AF have never shied away from being embarrassingly sincere and they've always teetered on the edge of self-importance what with their perpetual finger waging at "the kids"and such but this is really jumping the shark for me. Feels like a miscalculated attempt to be something that arcade fire definitely are not, which is edgy, direct, and abrasive. The backing track is fine alone but the vocals aren't selling me on any of it. I feel some strong second hand embarrassment every time I listen to it, no joke.

Hopefully this is just a case of them subverting our expectations after giving us the mission statement of Everything Now. I can't imagine a world where they think this is a centerpiece single from their new record. I have tickets for them in October and I'd hate to finally see them live only to have it be in support of songs like Creature Comfort.

Y'all this new Perfume Genius album sounds like a butterfly coming out of its cocoon and saying "oh wow I'm beautiful...but hey I'm still really loving pissed off about some of that stuff that happened back when I was a caterpillar". Every time it swoops around you don't know if it's just marveling at its own wings or maybe coming in for a strafing run. It's just fragile and frightening and beautiful all at once and I'm in love with it.
