I don't like that the crew was dumb enough to follow Andy because she got frustrated and spoke up. But I'm okay with the extended action from the mountain pass fight leading to a short mutiny.

Going along with it for a while wasn't that bad. Once Bandana woke up they switched to her side and untied her right quick. D&D still has 6 second combat rounds, right? The whole mutiny lasted a couple minutes.

I still think Andy was in the right in the beginning of the mutiny. It really felt like a DM panic that the NPC wasn't being perceived how they wanted so we got the 'I just don't like you being in charge' instead of 'you changed our job description and are now getting us killed'.

World Famous W posted:Vampire allowed on board. Eh. The vampire was escorted by high level adventurers, confined to a small area, and Nokrud didn't even try anything until he managed to lose all of the escorting spellcasters. The risk to the crew was minimal.

The vampire stuff and not feeling committed to the overall mission just built tension and mistrust of the captain among the crew which contributed to the overall breakdown of cohesion when the ambush put them under stress. It wasn't like the mutiny was a particularly deliberate or well-thought-out affair, the engineer basically just snapped then panicked to fill the void while the crew did whatever they could to not all die. If they'd trusted her more like they trusted Scoundrel, they'd probably have assumed she knew what she was doing leading them down the pass. It's basically just an arc about Bandana growing into the role of captain and winning the confidence of the crew after their initial skepticism of her taking over for Scoundrel, but since they're not the stars of the comic and such an arc doesn't necessarily contribute a lot when their overall plot role has mostly been to ferry the heroes around, it's a bit distracting. It might've helped if there were a smaller, better-defined set of crew-members we were introduced to from the start since apart from Bandana and Andi the rest are basically filler. Seeing three of them getting cut down didn't really hit that hard.

Avoiding a really tedious subplot is a surprisingly good way to demonstrate how useful V has become now that they've focused on utility.

I feel like the point of the airship arc is to show how far the party has come. At the beginning of the comic they were bumbling around in a dungeon, failing Listen checks and running away from goblins. And in an interpersonal sense, they all had emotional issues they were trying to resolve. The airship crew are there to parallel the old party, with weird issues (I hate you for babysitting me!) and screw-ups on what should be relatively easy tasks. Meanwhile, the actual Order itself is flying around killing dozens of frost giants with class levels and being generally emotionally healthy people working together as a cohesive team. This arc is to establish that they're finally ready to actually beat Xykon (and confront the Snarl). It's dissatisfying on its own, but it's not meant to stand on its own. It's the climb at the beginning of the roller coaster. "Kinda anti-climactic, I guess. But everything that's not the climax is supposed to be, a little."

Instead of this whole airship arc we should have just had flashback cutaways to O'chul being awesome at various points in time. In fact why can't that just be every strip.
