I needed to look up Justin Bieber's discography for a trivia quiz recently and it's still pretty nuts to me how his first album came out as an EP, a full album, a compilation and a remix album and about half the songs on it were released as singles anyway. It's also weird looking at the table with his singles on Wikipedia and it starts off with all these hits, then there's this two-year period where nothing he's doing is getting past the bottom half of the Top 40 (he also had that one album that purportedly sold so badly that his record company refused to release the figures to save face), then he comes back and has something like three number-ones in a row. Is there anything similar, not where a recording artist goes away for a while then has a comeback, but where they keep recording and performing but nothing hits, then they muster this huge commercial career revival?

I think Biebs just reached over saturation combined with him being in the news all the time for being a douchebag is what led to the dip. Plus a few years has improved his voice to anyone over 18. I mean-- considering her battles, I think it would be kind of.....weird if she jumped back into fun care free silly songs like Tik Tok. Her new video still has animals and fun colors, she knows her branding and audience.
