With the lights in the bumper and the wheel choice, it looks an awful lot like the ones they raced at Le Mans, but the sponsors don't match what I found on Google. InitialDave fucked around with this message at 09:05 on Jun 27, 2017 |

Endurance racing makes far more sense for the time period. Looks like they had BIRKIN sponsorship for the Suzuka 1000 in 1993. 3rd entry, no photo on this page. http://www.racingsportscars.com/suffix/archive/Lotus/Esprit/Sport%20300.html

I saw my first Fiat 124 Spider out in the wild yesterday. I'm impressed by how much cheaper it looks than a bog standard MX-5... There's too much crappy cheap plastic on the thing to the point where it looks like a Chinese market copy of what it should look like.

One of the docs at the one hospital I go to has one and I feel the same. The wheels look cheap as well. I wonder if the Abarth is as downmarket looking in person? All in all I think I would still prefer the MX5. RF specifically.

The Esprit V8 is one of those "lets take two of our 4-pots and put them together" deals. I'm not sure how good/bad they are really, or if they detuned them from what they're really capable of, but either way I think I'd be a little twitchy about what you can put through those Renault gearboxes, uprated or or not.

Build up a stronger motor, see where the limits of the trans are, detune motor accordingly. My research into Esprits was that a non-V8 S4 was the best you could do for reliability, and even there it's not great.

I've always wondered how the Porsche G50 trans gets flipped for mid-engine use, as it shows up a lot in MR kit cars. Here's RCR's list of engine->transaxle setups that they have anticipated customers doing: http://race-car-replicas.com/engine-transaxle-adapter-plates/

Probably a good shout, the Audi FWD longitudinal setups are a good option for people wanting a cheap(er) mid-engine setup like that.

The Factory Five 818 uses a Subaru motor and trans donor. Is the Subaru trans particularly long or anything? Don't see it come up in swaps, but maybe I'm just not paying attention. That first shot is from an electric 818 still using the Subie 5spd: http://www.autoblog.com/2014/04/28/factory-five-racing-818-ev-battery-powered-electric/

Most of the 911 trans swaps literally just flip the transmissions upside-down. From reading about it, it's mostly just a matter of changing some vents into drain plugs and vice-versa. The Subaru transaxle is... fine up to a point, but seemingly most of the people building mid-engine kit car stuff are putting V8s in them, and no way is a Subaru 5 speed going to hold that for long. Most people doing lower powered mid-engine stuff (I4s, V6s, etc) just use FWD transverse style setups. Some VW guys do Subaru transaxles though, and RE Amemiya did a rotary Lotus Europa with one.
