I don't recommend that game, sadly. I really wanted to like it, and it looks pretty cool, but the actual gameplay was frustratingly stiff, janky and just a chore to actually play and everything taking forever to kill. I was rather disappointed in the gameplay.

Well, I really enjoyed salt and sanctuary. Has that nice interconnected levels thing going on where you're like 'where the hell am I headed? Oh it connects to here' which scratches the exploration itch. And the combat was fun and I enjoyed how the weapons had varied niches and I switched between a few depending on resistances and whether it was more advantageous to have speed or reach or one hit power.

If you love LEGO games, you should definitely check out LEGO City Undercover Now, I have only played the old ones so far, that were all quite linear, but a few months ago, I finished the first LEGO Harry Potter, and really enjoyed the openness of that game. Going on missions to get new abilities, then zip all around in the wizard school to see where these abilities could be applied to open up new stuff. LCU is kind of the same, but on a much grander scale, and with plenty of tools to help you. The story is for once not a licensed movie, but a brand new IP. Imagine a cop movie, with a constant 70's porn guitar playing as background track, set in something that could look like San Francisco. Add to that a super cop, who has been forced to relocate due to his latest case, but is now back, as his arch-enemy has escaped prison. His then-girlfriend has been forced to go into witness protection, a lovesick bumbling junior officer as a semi-sidekick and the Chief is a general rear end in a top hat who took all the credit for the bust, the cop did back then. It's now up to you to find and stop Rex Fury again, and you have a gigantic city and country area as a hub for the 15 main missions. Just like any other open world game (and LEGO game), there are plenty of collectibles to find and puzzles to solve, and you can retry any of the main missions any time you want, and you can bring all your new abilities along, to get even higher scores and open up even more in each mission. Abilities work just like in Harry Potter, in that you have a "weapons wheel" where you switch between personas: The cop has his cool gadgets like scanners and a grapple-gun, the miner can use dynamite and has a pick axe, the burglar can open safes and break doors etc. etc. Add to that a general map function, a scanner for hidden bonuses, challenges and puzzles, and of course being able to drive around in all kinds of vehicles, just like any respectable GTA clone. The humor fits me perfectly: slapstick comedy, puns and dad jokes. It's a perfect kids game, though there are plenty of callbacks to movies and movie scenes, which are definitely not for kids, so adults will get a good chuckle as well. The launch was a bit rocky, with lots of complaints about instability and a lovely port. I haven't had any issues whatsoever from the ~10 hours I've been playing so far, though I have only played single player. Load times could be better between scenes, but install it on an SSD and it's still better than GTA5. I'm still only 4 main missions in, so there might be even more things opening up, but I thought I'd write a few words about it while it's still on sale, as some had asked for my impressions of it. Thanks once again to J.A.B.C. for gifting me this on the gift train

I made a few cents selling cards and want to get something for my trouble. Does anyone have any recommendations for the .49 cent games out there? I don't have any real specific asks for that price, but if there's a decent HO game for that price, I would probably get it. Otherwise I have really eclectic taste in games so if there's an absurdly cheap hidden gem out there somewhere I'm open to it. Not Bad Rats Show. I already have Bad Rats and it's Not For Me.

Ubermosh is okay but the music is incredible, The Dweller is a fun/weird puzzler, Out There Somewhere is pretty fun (if short) for a teleporting platformer, Toki Tori is a really cute puzzler, Space Moth is a not great SHMUP but I love its visual style, InfiniPicross is really, really budget Picross, BAD RATS, Advent Rising is an old game that might be good, Vampire of the Sands is a really difficult roguelike that I kind of like, Tidalis is Arcen does puzzlers.... Holy cow there's a lot of these fifty cent games, and so many bad ones!

That's so stupid I refuse to give them any money for that.

Forty-nine cents is low even for hidden object games, but either Alchemy Mysteries: Prague Legends or Frankenstein: Master of Death would get the job done. Alchemy is a solid HOG with a really dumb story, and I don't normally recommend Frankenstein because the puzzles are Resident Evil crest-collecting nonsense but it's pretty polished outside of that.

It's not on Steam, but with the new Bubsy game coming soon, now's a great time to check out one of the most important games in the series, Bubsy 3D: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Retrospective. I don't want to spoil it too much, but it is an absolute classic, and you will learn quite a bit about art as well. Actually, it used to be playable in browsers, but Unity fell apart or something, so now it's a downloadable experience with bonus content! Between that and the new game, now really is the best time to check out Bubsy 3D: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Retrospective. ART

Boy I think the shine might be coming off Hollow Knight a bit. It's a real good game but the world is huge to a fault and getting around is tedious as gently caress as there are barely any fast travel points or even save benches in a lot of places. The Souls series at its most brutal wasn't this disjointed or obtuse and I have no idea what the gently caress I'm supposed to be doing or where I need to go late in the game. It takes so goddamn long to explore the environment and there are so many one-way drops that I don't want to just poke around for what I missed.

I bought Hollow Knight, but haven't tried it yet, I'm busy with Salt and Sanctuary, which i also bought. I'm really feeling the weirdness that is Dark souls 1 all over again. This game seems to favor my playstyle too, Big shield, 1h weapon or 2h weapon, switch when necessary. There are some situations where using a one hander will not break the animation of your enemies so you are trading hits, I don't get this problem with big rear end two handers.
