He didn't have Return he clearly wasn't going to have Shin. It seems he loves the big dumb large scale slobber knockers between multiple monsters. It actually makes his inclusion of Destroyah all the more interesting.

FYI, it appears that the Australian version released by Madman has all the basic extras from the Japanese version: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on-sale/world-cinema/shin-godzilla/445581/ You just have to deal with the lovely cover (there's a slipcase/non-slipcase version) and our terrible rating on the front. If you're US based though it should end up being about $25+shipping.

Amazon finally seems to have Shin Godzilla up for preorder. Shin Godzilla up for preorder. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071S71D4N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FRWozbEXEFGJD $35 is pricey, but still worth it.

Sucks that I'm going to have to buy the shittiest version of the BR due to the dub (for my son). Double dipping for the bare bones with dub and a loaded version will be close to $100.

Our first look at anime Godzilla for the up coming movie! It's shockingly really cool that they used the 2014 design and mixed it with Shin like they did. It's not a copy of 2014, but you can tell that is a major source for it. I never expected to see 2014 used by Toho so this is really awesome.

So, I told my son (a fellow Gojiraphile) about the upcoming anime, and what little I knew about the story, and his reaction was "so...it's going to be like Kaiju Busters only with Godzilla?" I thought for a few minutes, and realized he's right on the money. I have no problems with this comparison.

I appreciate that crazy synopsis for Godzilla: Monster Planet. This franchise desperately needed to be pumped full of new ideas, take risks, and go wild. I would say Shin Gojira and this new anime are a step forward for Toho. I say this because my feelings toward the Millennium Series has soured a bit due to the lack of creativity, boring predictable plot lines, and the recycling of Mothra, MechaG, and King Ghidorah in a last ditch effort to squeeze money out of the sponge. The lowest point was when Toho interfered and forced the director of GMK to ditch Anguirus and Varan for more "marketable" kaiju. I guess Toho did, at least, gamble with wacky Ryuhei Kitamura and GFW. I mean, it was a complete mess of a film and a disaster, but at least it was one of the most unique G films. I remember Final Wars way more than I remember Tokyo SOS or GxMG. Since Legendary will probably pay homage to classic, familiar territory, we kind of get to have our cake and eat it too with Toho taking brand new approaches.

The weird thing about the Millennium series is there was no continuity, it should theoretically allow for that kind of insanity, but only GMK and Final Wars really feel like a weird different take on things. The more conventional GxMG and Tokyo SOS are still good movies but it was both formless and restrictive.

I like Tokyo SOS for all it's spirituality. I don't normally say that about films, so I don't know why I thought it was great in a movie featuring a giant robot and moth fighting a giant lizard monster.

I really should peep Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Destroyah, again. Unrelated: So, it turns out that both the predecessor to Gojira, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, and the antecedent of Gojira, Behemoth, the Sea Monster/The Giant Behemoth, were directed by the same dude. Same dude directed Gorgo. That's not a bad pedigree to hold against any of Honda's peak works. Like, Behemoth is a masterpiece.

I feel like naming it is a moot point because it only exists to facilitate remaking Godzilla vs King Kong. It's less a cinematic universe and more an excuse for a crossover.

Dagahra is the best inclusion on that alleged canon. Like, yes, the D-list villain of Mothra 2 (a movie everyone hates) is the second most deadly kaiju of all (if you split the estimate between Rodan and Anguirus). I like the implication that Hedorah is now a biological weapon.
