Continuing from the last thread, the Astros should give up all their best prospects for George Kontos and Hunter Strickland. Oh and Johnny Cueto too maybe.

"Hmmm. Perhaps we could get better at pitching, hitting and fielding!" thought the cunning new front office employee.

Last year, the Cubs had lost 9 of their last 11 games going into the ASB, then went on a 10-game winning streak shortly afterwards. It gives the players much-needed rest, something the Cubs missed a month of last season by playing into November, and it can act like a reset button.

DON'T HURT MY FEE FEES!
Yeah, but isn't everybody else just as rested?

What the Cubs should do is play hooky and forfeit a few games, then go on a ten game winning streak. Just repeat the cycle until they're the winningest team in baseball. Hell, why hasn't anybody else thought of this before?

Matheny remains the most strategic manager

quote:

In the midst of the pitching change, Mike made a double switch that - SURPRISE! - didn't make much sense. Piscotty came in to the game in the pitcher's spot, moving Jose Martinez to first base, and taking Voit out of the game. To recap: Voit, who is actually a first baseman, was removed from the game as part of a defensive switch, in favor of a man who is not actually a first baseman... Right on cue, Martinez made an error on the first ball in play.

Matheny's overwhelming quality that assures he'll be a fan favourite is that he is overtly Christian. He'll have to do something really bad like lose to the Cubs in the NLCS before people have had enough.

:allears: It's the little things to enjoy that assuage me from the fact that the Cubs are actually bad this year and will continue to be bad up to and after the ASB.

Last year the Cubs were very, very good before having a terrible June/early July, which was a direct result of playing something like 26 games in a row and it was very clear they were tired and needed a chance to refresh. This year the Cubs were bad to start the season, the Cubs are still bad, and I don't see how getting a couple days off is going to change that.

Not MLB but the indy league team near where I grew up had an interesting end to their international series versus the Cuban team, wherein Yoenis Cespedes' half-brother was called for interference at second, and the entire Cuban coaching staff proceeded to get ejected from the game. Final score, Rockland 6, Cuba 5, 2 outs.

The Reds traded signing pool money for Nick Longhi, who MLBPipeline.com has as the Red Sox #9 prospect, so it looks like they'll be spenders.

Longhi plays 1B/COF slashing .262/.306/.401 in AA as a 21, almost 22 year old. IIRC the Reds spent wildly last year so I like that the approach this go-round.

There are worse things than being firmly in a position to sell. It was a jerk move for Atkins and Shapiro to steer the team into a position where they had to rebuild, but now that their there the right move is still to rebuild.

AL voters turned in a good All-Star ballot.

OF: Judge, Springer, Trout
1B: Smoak
2B: Altuve
SS: Correa
3B: Ramirez
C: Perez
DH: Dickerson

Would have liked to see Gary at catcher, but it's not like Perez only made it because of ballot stuffing or anything.
