It's serviceable for what it is: A free animated short written and produced for girls aged 6-12.

Still looking forward to the rest of these (they're apparently dropping a short a day until the 9th) because, as with Rebels, you're very likely to get some good-to-great stories out of something ostensibly "for kids".

Yeah they're going to be animated shorts filling in some "gaps" in the movies, all about female characters. Where possible, they're using the original actors. It's also partly (mostly?) to advertise a new toy line, which are basically action dolls (but as a Star Wars fan and a person with a daughter, they are super cool).

Yes, and not just girls either. My five-year-old doesn't understand English, but the story is basic enough for him to follow, and he's requested six repeat viewings so far. :)

They've had better voice actresses for Leia in the past. This one sounds really off. I dug the "Yub Nub"-inspired background music though!

The opening shot reminds me of the title cards for the old Ewoks animated series. Compare it to episode 4 "To Save Deej", and you'll see what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqt3y1mr8NQ

Carrie Fisher must be a tough voice to do. I don't think I've ever really heard anyone nail it yet. Julie Dolan probably came the closest on Rebels, and I wasn't even a big fan because I thought she sounded way too old. But I couldn't even really hear any Leia in this new actress's performance in Forces of Destiny.

e: I liked the short otherwise, though. Huge Ewoks cartoon flashback!

I quite like the music in this one, it's like a DJ spinning the soundtracks to at least two movies and hitting the right segments at the right moment. Just after she Force Pushes that cart, that's music that can still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

e. I also like that apparently the Padawans patrol Coruscant like lightsaber-weilding Batman.

No idea if Catherine Taber is voicing Padmé again - I can't even remember what her voice sounded like in the cartoon, but this one certainly doesn't sound like Natalie Portman.

One drawback of marketing the show to kids is that the action scenes are excruciatingly slow. This episode especially.

I liked it, but I have to say that was a very subtle plan. Like, the bomb made sense, but the "use utensils to subtly insult them didn't." I guess the implication was "try to make them leave on their own through a casual insult and, if that don't work, blow it all to hell."

Okay, this is practically stealing candy from a baby at this point. It also seemed like a really petty thing that almost felt out-of-character for Jyn (I know she doesn't have much of a character, but still) to do. Like, she kind of seemed like the type who would let the cat get kidnapped rather than give away her location to the Empire. Oh well, aimed at kids.

AndyElusive

I figure Jyn kinda sticks her neck out for kids getting screwed by the Empire since she probably feels a connection to them. There's that frightened kid in Rogue One and then there's this.

This is much more like it. Always good to see IG-88, and the fact that the opening shot of this short is the same as the closing shot of the last one gives you the option to imagine that these events happened literally during the same timeframe and the characters juuust missed each other.

I read it as the assassin didn't know the appropriate protocol, and sticking the utensils out there like any other dinner, in error, is what gave her away to Padme
