OK, flare in space, confirmed. Now, because Star Citizen doesn't cut any corners and is HARD SCIENCE, I can't wait for the projectile designs, the explanation of how a flare gun shoots rounds in atmosphere and in a vacuum interchangeably.

Come on, Roberts, where's my loving ammunition company lore explaining all this! You've had 6 years already!

Gyrojet bullets were designed to work in guns that could function in the vacuum and harsh temperatures of space. The various pistol and carbine variants fired a self-contained rocket-powered projectile that gave the weapon minimal recoil and light weight. The projectile would leave the gun at relatively low speeds (10 fps) but steadily accelerated for 60 feet until it reached 1250 fps. At this velocity, the .51 caliber projectile would have 50% more kinetic energy than a .45 round (about 525 foot-pounds by my calc.)

And as they’ve done so many times in the past (as recently as CitizenCon 2016 in which they showed what was purportedly coming in 3.0, due out before Dec 19th, 2016), instead of, you know, showing actual game play for a patch that’s supposedly less than a month away, they’re still making editor-based movie bullshots (see the Reclaimer @ 26:37 in the AtV video) which have zero correlation to the actual game client they’re releasing. Except this one is Pupil To Planet (Dec 2015) redux for 2017.

Just overwhelm the player base with a bunch of useless poo poo so they can be distracted with the fact that they are suffering from a massive engineering bottleneck on core engine issues and they continue to skid their tires on UI and doors

ComfyPants

They have old code that has to be changed.
It had to be changed because they changed engines because they picked the completely wrong engine and coded on it for years.
It's difficult to fix and it's taken a very long time.
CIG doesn't have enough people to work on the problems.
It's going to take a very long time before anything's playable.
It really sucks, but they had to release something, or otherwise people would hold their money waiting for something good.

Yes. The only thing CIG could have done with their lovely, ill-advised engine that people were criticizing back in 2014 was to not release anything. There is absolutely nothing else they could have done besides continue to jury-rig an engine that was never designed for an expansive space game. Those are the only two options.

Idiots.
