Yeah it was a perfect storm of things. Getting Curry on an absurd bargain contract because of his ankles, the cap exploding to a historic degree at just the right time to sign Durant, lucking into a star in the second round with Draymond, etc. There's no way all of that happens again. Plus basketball by its very nature doesn't lend itself to parity and the NBA has literally never had it. Chasing it is a fool's errand unless you want to radically alter how the playoffs are structured or the sport.

I applaud them for drafting well, but goddamn that Durant move is kinda pissing me off.

I struggle to see another team compete with them for another 4-5 years unless the Cavs find a way to come roaring back. (LeBron is probably gonna be a Laker y'all.) My anger would probably be more apathy if the whole "Cavs" factor was not in the equation.

I'm just dumb and would like to see teams like Indiana, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Sacramento, Milwaukee, Memphis and the like reach the promised land someday. It kinda feels impossible in today's environment. Which sucks because there are some truly great fans in those markets. Christ, people in Oklahoma love Westbrook to death out there.

I mean the Cavs won the genetic lottery by having a top 3/5 player being born a stone's throw away from the old richfield coliseum. It feels like us and the spurs are the exception to the rule really.

Sacramento's entire franchise arc was broken because of Tim Donaghy and it's incredibly frustrating.

I love the MLS but god drat is it frustrating to have teams go from historically bad seasons to challenging for first place the next every single loving year. No sense of league continuity or purpose.

Also people keep forgetting that it is the players making these decisions to team up way before free agency starts which can't really be governed

It is mostly because they are playing basketball, and in basketball the best team wins way more often than it does in any other sport for a lot of reasons.

I think not so much a problem, but a unique factor to the NBA is how much value a particular "franchise" player can be to a team in terms of being legitimate. Having a guy like LeBron, Curry, Durant, Westbrook, Harden is akin to having a franchise QB in the NFL. It's your ticket to the playoffs, going to the finals, winning a title, etc. This isn't a bad thing, this is how the league operates. I can list only the 2004 Pistons team as the lone "no MVP/stars" type. Even the Spurs had Timmy D.

There's really nothing another team can offer to really replace the value a guy like that brings sans a top 3 lotto pick, or something of that note. (psst. The Cavs got offered this back in 2011 so it would shut Gilbert the hell up. It's why Kyrie is a Cavalier)

I think what also bolstered the creation of super teams (which could be either credited with Shaq going to the Lakers, or the 2008 Celtics) was the talking point the media has presented that winning a ring, regardless of how it's done or who it's with? Trumps pretty much anything. So for a guy like Durant? I imagine he was scared shitless at the idea of being thought of in the same manner that Chuck Barkley was discussed and such. You get a lot of idiots like the Stephen A's and Skip's of the world going "6 RINGS. JORDAN HAS 5 RINGS" which ultimately devalues the production and accomplishments of a lot of players.

The collusion in season is -also- a problem, and we've seen it play out with LeBron in 2009-2010 (Riley going with Wade to get him to come to Miami at his house in akron) and Durant recently (Draymond Green recruiting him like crazy). I don't really know what you to do kinda prevent that or again, how you can compensate a team for losing an MVP type.

I don't get this complaint. NBA never had any real parity because of the impact that a single superstar can have, but in terms of who wins the NBA is probably the best league for small markets. Cavs, San Antonio, Detroit all have won titles in the last 15 years. Oklahoma and Orlando have reached the finals in the same period. And of the big markets to win it recently, a lot had been historically terrible franchises. Between 1994 and 2014 the warriors had fewer playoff appearances than every single one of the teams you listed. Before Dirk came into his own, the mavs went from 90-91 through 98-99 averaging 20 wins a season. "Today's environment" has made it easier than ever for small market teams to become successful. Teams can keep their drafted players far longer than before. Nothing can be done with regards to the fact that there is only one Lebron, one KD, but in terms of being able to keep players like those, small markets in the NBA have far more power than other sports. As for the warriors, a ton of people also thought that the heat would also win everything forever, and they ended up with 2 titles (and could have just as easily ended up with none, since both years they went 7 games in the conference finals while winning at least one ot game).

Super teams have always been an issue in a league where 2 or 3 players can dominate. If anything, there are fewer superteams now than before, and when they are created they last a lot less. As dominant as the Warriors may be, odds are they won't be able to match, say, Jordan's Bulls in terms of long term dominance. I mean, we've had 7 different champions in 10 years since people started bitching about the superteam du jour after the KG trade.

Katie's been off the air for FS1 for a while now and I'm guessing outside of Horowitz's harassment (I'd imagine he was harassing far more than just one person, from the sounds of it) Fox didn't really have plans for her anyway and were just going to let her contract expire. I mean jesus christ they passed over her for the 11PM slot and offered it to Clay Travis of all people. Meanwhile her show, at least when it ran, looked like it was filmed in a loving broom closet.

I'm thinking of various situations where things for a particular sport were ruined (short or long term) by hooking with a different broadcast partner or when a station changed philosophy. I'm saying this because something clicked in my brain about when I fell in love with football. It was partially because of how GOOD Brent Musburger and Gary Danielson were at calling Purdue games in 2000. ESPN pretty much killed that and has tried to make much of CFB unwatchable.

Note: This is more directed towards a drop in quality, not ratings. So you'll see a few on here that get fantastic ratings, but the coverage is not as good.

-Fox Sports buys up NASCAR from ESPN, Turner Sports, and CBS in 1999.
-ESPN dumps the ABC WWOS/CFB brand in 2005.
-ABC loses the non-rose bowl bcs games in 2006
-ESPN grabs the rights for NASCAR again in 2007 (different quality than the superb coverage it got pre-2000).
-NBC loses the rights to the NBA to ESPN/ABC
-CBS loses the rights to the NFC to Fox
-NBC loses the rights to the AFC to CBS
-ABC no longer doing MNF after 2005.
-MLB leaves ABC/NBC for Fox.
-PTI's creation in 2001, as a result it changes it networks philosophy on covering sports

Am I missing any or any comments? I think this covers it fairly well.
