So, Derek Fisher was very impressive at the Future's Game.

...why isn't he on the roster? What benefit is there to keep Aoki for him? Asking for a friend.

My guess is to inflate his value at the deadline. 'Top prospect' sounds better than 'number three outfielder'.

Fisher/Springer/Reddick is a real outfield though, which would be nice to have

Marisnick is having a nice year for him but ehhhh

are they higher on fisher or tucker at this point?

Intruder
Mar 5, 2003

Probably Tucker but Fisher is closer, Tucker is a year out at least

Hell, you could wait on Tucker and move on from Reddick while keeping Fisher

Tucker also gets you a much better player in a trade

Kirios
Jan 26, 2010

Tucker is the one player, above all others, I don't want the Astros to trade.

Fisher is...replaceable, but man, he could easily be the starting LF this year. If the Cubs keep starting Schwarber, why can't the Astros deploy Fisher?

Intruder

Tucker is 20 and slashing .288/.349/.553 in AA, I have high hopes for him

Sonny Gray for Tucker + Perez

What say you?

Intruder
Mar 5, 2003

That's tough. Could Kemp + Whitley + filler get it done? :v:

Also holy poo poo Daz is looking like a massive bust

Kirios
Jan 26, 2010

Problem is...that's at least what it will take to get a #3 pitcher. Someone like Cole, Quintana, etc. will cost more than that.

And I'm not sure it's worth it.

Edit: Nah, we aren't getting a good starter without parting with at least Tucker or Fisher.

Intruder
Mar 5, 2003

Whitley is probably a prospect on their level tbh

Yeah, but he's quite far away. That devalues him a little bit compared to Tucker and especially Fisher. Fisher can be sold as ready to be plugged into RF tomorrow.

Sadly he was right about Singleton

You think Daz is a bust? At least he has time to turn it around. He's 20 and OPSing .728 in A ball. He's far from a lost cause.

Now, Singleton?! That is a massive, massive bust.

Intruder
Mar 5, 2003

Daz hasn't looked good at any level yet. If he's going to avoid being a bust, he'd better get his poo poo together soon

Kirios
Jan 26, 2010

Oh, certainly, he hasn't impressed anyone yet. But he's got time to turn it around, and to be fair to him, has been improving lately.

I'm just extremely salty about Jon Singleton and AJ Reed. We aren't allowed to have a nice 1B.

Intruder
Mar 5, 2003

Gurriel is doing a well enough job IMO, I'm pretty pleased with the way he's been hitting especially lately

Sure he doesn't have the power or OBP you'd like from a 1B but it's a far sight better than what we've had

Tucker, Martes/Fisher and Paulino for Freeman, yes or no?

Kirios

Martes, yes.

Fisher....maybe, but possibly yes.

Go for the greatest offense of all time, gently caress it.

I know you're mad at Martes but his stuff is legit and he's still very young

I don't see the Astros being able to trade Paulino this year due to the 80-game suspension. Martes + Fisher + I dunno, Colin Moran?

Martes isn't ready to start yet, but he's been okay in short pen outings. I'd prefer to keep him around.

What are the odds the Astros go 19-8 down the stretch and the Dodgers go 8-19? Asking for a friend.

Intruder

Very low but IIRC it doesn't matter because they went back to alternating AL/NL homefield

The only teams the Astros need to really worry about are the Indians and Red Sox

I'm pretty sure it's best record now, not alternating.

And yes, I realize it's putting the cart before the horse. I'd still like the best regular season record, though.

I hate to raise a dead quote but right now I still feel like they are the worse matchup for us over the Yankees. I am hoping for some Yankee bullshit, but I can see where this is heading.

I was way more concerned about their pitching, so in that sense we got the best possible matchup.
