if the far right was dominating the internet/new media/the meme war/whatever in some dangerous way you'd expect there to be a positive relation between being in a generation that's exposed to it and being right-wing, rather than exactly the opposite. that feeling of 'wow what a dipshit' you get when you see a pepe dork going on about the Cuck News Network or whatever, everyone else gets that too.

if the left has a problem it's converting the actual mass movement among younger people from mild social democracy to something more revolutionary and resilient

I wanna say five or six years ago there was an attempt by various European hard right/neo-fascist groups to convene an international conference for the defense of the West from Islam or Judeo-Bolshevism or whatever. It fragmented almost instantly over whether they should let the Poles participate, as I recall.

in my own opinion, the main effect the propaganda has achieved is the reduced trust in almost every institution, going as far as even questioning truth itself. i mean leftists say nothing matters because the campaign has and is succeeding.

4chan and its ilk HAVE impacted the world. reddit is the 7th most trafficked site in the US, and during the election, there were days where nothing but the donald (which was effectively run, at least initially, by 4chan) dominated the front page. the social engineering on the internet forced you to confront almost every right wing talking point even if you just used it casually. trump and surrogates embraced it almost organically as well.

old started screaming bill clinton is a rapist and hillary might be ill. the pundits shook their heads because they didn't know how to respond, but it was interesting and got ratings. fact checkers didn't matter, because cynicism is intellectually dishonest and can find ways around logic. and it's fun! it's fun being the little guy, the uncaring cynic. is it fun to defend workers rights?

the left has been beat at using the internet effectively. right now, leftists are resigned to aligning with the intelligence agencies and the press, who in my view, are enemies. narrative presence is still being dominated by centrist neoliberals, especially on twitter. instead, leftists should learn from the use of disinformation and use it in their favor. i think this is a controversial view, but having fascist talking points as now literally state narrative requires a response.

there will always be disagreements idealogically, but the far right is effective practically. jamming the internet to increase the noise to signal ratio is brilliant. infowars has loving millions of viewers, more than CNN. being the ultimate skeptic and cynic paints idealism as quaint and outdated. having hope that human decency wins out is naive, because this really is a propaganda war and the internet is ground zero. there's a reason russian involvement happened - authoritarian governments know that the internet isn't analogous to a printing press, it's more akin to the written word - it's changed the way we know itself.

The world is lovely enough and led by lovely people that we don't need to invent anything, we just turn on the news. What matters is organising against all those real things, encouraging people to recognise and rebel against their oppression and in our off hours posting funny pictures about Lenin and what animals are the most socialist.

why is there no hard counter to 4chan/8chan owning the redpill and fascist narrative. the hard right has been unified consistently, but the hard leftists are creating non-funny and non-approchable poo poo and letting centrist neoliberals take on a losing propaganda battle

the president is literally retweeting internet memes and the left is bumbling around trying to combat disinformation and noise with philosophical idealism. it will never work and thats why everything will continue not matterring. leftists propaganda is garbage, and there isn't a single internet community that is trying to outmatch 4chan. lenin would be displeased as gently caress knowing we have the internet at our disposal and yet let cynics and fascists take over the narrative

Unfortunately all the best leftymemes are targeting other leftists.
