Couple of interesting points in the GameStar article:

They are trying to downplay the PC spec requirements for the game. Saying they don't want to have the reputation like Crysis, and reiterating that you only need a Quad-core CPU and 2GB GPU. It's almost as if having a reputation that your computer can't run the game is bad for business. Especially when the game does actually run well on lower end systems (netcode aside), it's based on an old engine after all.

The actual big news is that Chris's aim for release is 5 - 10 star systems. Which is the lower end of backers expectations for the MVP. It's going to be fun waiting for the other 90 hand crafted, procedural systems post release if its going to take years just to get five out the door.

I have been informed by the citizens on multiple occasions that, as soon as the planet pipelines are streamlined and the generation tools are ready, an artist will be able to create a whole planet is a couple of days. So 90 planers is only like half a year.

I can help
God drat it, it has always been a lovely thing to do to have the press know important things earlier than your backers, and in this case, having them "play" (ok that is debatable) an alpha that your backers were supposed to have been playing because you parp about your open development, with avocados, PT-eeews and P-OOHs.

Not to mention that it looks shady as gently caress, because they are going for a controlled narrative (still seems not as controlled as they'd want, but the Shitizens and naive potential customers are unlikely to notice that) from their buddy magazine, aimed at hyping up progress -- fake more than actual - people already pointed out the things that the authors did not actually test (...) . All the while distrusting your own backers (and their "elite" fruit-heads) to have a go at it, because they'd obviously would have less incentives not to poo poo all over it to oblivion in the state that it is in vs the state that was shown a year ago.

And their backers are ok with this. This truly is a backwards and logic defying crowdfunded project if I ever seen one.

Well poo poo man, here I was thinking that Star Citizen was bad and dead. But then a random German article says that they've seen it and got the inside scoop on it and it works and it's great! I guess I'm going to get back in, because we've never seen an article about how Star Citizen is real and it works and it's great from a German magazine just a few weeks before a major release for star citizen.

I mean just look at all of this from last year! Clearly the game is cool and good.

Or this one! They sure do love showing all their hottest stuff to obscure german journalists, just before major conventions and sales. It's really disappointing that they never manage to get any of it on video or release it to the public.

I don't speak enough German to feel clear on the matter but it seems to me that they must be especially uncritical of bullshit over there. We occasionally see some idiots and/or paid placement falling all over themselves to praise CIG in a backwater PC Games magazine over here, but by and large they're pretty radioactive in the English speaking world anymore.

I just think it's really funny that backers sincerely believe that:
A) CIG has this amazing internal build that works and has all these features ready to rock.
B) But they don't want to ruin the surprise, so they constantly display video of poo poo like whiskey tumblers and cafeterias instead of their actual, functioning game.
C) But then they do some live demos to the press, disregarding B entirely.
D) But only to German magazines, and only with screenshots accompanying.
E) And this happens every year, just before the big sales, and they're just not quite ready to release so they hold back another year when the time comes.

Whoever it is, they're better off using that account as an outlet for their SC obsession instead of writing million word, rehashed effort posts in this thread. It was Smart of them to evolve their character in order to stoke the Derek paranoia among the more ravenous backers. They still need to be careful about drowning in the poop.

Render to Texture
This system is still in progress, but due to its overall size and some of the other features for 3.0.0 that require Render to Texture, teams are using the system as soon as they are able, which means that Render to Texture is requiring bug fixing support while it’s being developed which results in further delays of the system as a whole. The date below does also take dedicated bug fixing time into account.
ETA is 10th August (was 27th July)

How do you gently caress up render to texture that badly? CIG is touting that they are doing this revolutionary engine and then cannot implement render to texture ... :psyduck:

This is an updated version of the Aurora. We previously didn’t think that we would have the time to complete this rework for 3.0.0, however, with the movement of our release dates we are now able to include this rework with 3.0.0.
ETA is 21st July

:psyboom:

So, let me get that straight - your release is 8 months behind, postponed for the x-th time and you are still piling tasks on top? This is not how project management works.
Also gently caress those condescending pricks on :reddit:, who go 'zomg, you don't understand game dev'. I do software development and I know that if I postpone a release multiple times over 8 months:

I can't imagine having to disembark from your ship with space legs and having to manually catch said crates and superman it back to your ship everytime.
