Edit: Quote added due to new page, also does anyone have a good method for cleaning keys without removing them? Can't exactly pop them in the dishwasher at work...wait...we do have a dishwasher at work...is that even advisable though or is that a myth?

I've been lurking this thread trying to decide on something since I finally got a new gaming pc last week (and I've actually wanted a mechanical keyboard since two computers ago), so I thought I'd share what I finally settled on today. I ended up going with the Corsair Strafe RGB MX Silent with cherry reds (Anandtech review linked) I was deciding between this and a Logitech k840. The Corsair seemed more intense as a first mechanical keyboard, but I felt like the Logitech was little too bare-boned as this keyboard is mainly for gaming and not just straight word processing or coding or whatnot. This one is apparently a Best Buy exclusive, or was when it came out last year. I only saw used ones up on Amazon, anyway. So far I really like it, though it does feel way different typing on this than my Macbook's keyboard or the crappy Dell stock one I was using before. It's quiet enough too. I know a lot of people want the CLANGING of typical mechanical keyboards, but I wanted something that might not wake the neighbors at 2 am. Anyway I guess I was just wondering if anybody'd had any bad experiences with these, or whatever. I've never really bought Corsair accessories, pretty much only ever used what came with a computer and Logitech stuff. Also sprung for one of their gently caress-off big mousepads since I was having to use some cabinet liner to keep my last keyboard from sliding around.  Now I just need to replace the monitor and I'll be set for some years, hopefully. Gonna wait for Black Friday on that one.

I was able to reproduce it consistently after like 3-4 unplug cycles. Reproducible on 2 PC's at home. My friend with a Corsair K65 was also able to reproduce. There's about 5 threads on the Corsair forums about it, but Corsair keeps insisting that it's a Steam issue and nothing to do with their software/drivers. Fair enough, but a) if I completely uninstall CUE and the K70 drivers and just use the generic Windows drivers, the issue completely goes away b) marketing your keyboard as a gaming keyboard, but being incompatible with Steam is pretty stupid. Anyway, give that a try and see if you have the same issues. If not, Corsair is pretty solid otherwise. EDIT: Oh, and if you do get the issue. The resolution is to unplug the K70 and plug it back in. Or set the switch at the back of the keyboard to BIOS mode, which sets it to a compatibility mode that lets Windows detect it as a generic keyboard. Yeah, what I think a lot of people miss is Massdrop is really great for getting mechanical keyboards outside the USA. Their "lovely" discounts in the US are way better than the pile of customs fees most Europeans have to pay to buy from mechanicalkeyobards.com. I will however admit their shipping times can be kinda poo poo and their customer service belongs in a trash can.

To Australia, the shipping cost is a pretty big difference. I ordered my Race3 from mechkeyboards and ate the 40 USD shipping then about 5 days later it was on massdrop for the same price but 10 usd shipping. I ordered some keycaps from massdrop and they came in a reasonable time. The tracking wasn't very useful but I would wear that for a 30 USD saving. This keyboard really owns and i'm considering becoming one of those guys who takes his keyboard to work and back because i love typing on it, but its too expensive to get another one.

I got cherry silvers or "speed" "sick gamer" focus aside, in practice they are reds with a shorter throw. I came from browns and I really prefer this set to the other one. they are significantly quieter too if that is a problem. The build quality is dope, the case is a high quality feeling aluminum, the key caps are low profile and look great, and the novelty caps they give you are nice without being too garish. some people dislike it, but i love the floating keycap look aswell. the only very minor downside, aside from the price, is it doesn't come with a keycap puller. I had one spare so it was nbd.

The Coolermaster boards are reasonably priced and don't look too garish for being gamer boards, other than the RGB lighting which I think you can disable if you want. I was considering a Masterkeys Pro M because the layout is weird and different.

I finally decided to learn to solder and threw together my office keyboard after the kit spent a year in my closet. Adjusting to a 40% isn't as much of a pain in the rear end as I thought it'd be (at least for what I have to type) and Matias QCs have a nice feel to them. They're a lot softer than my 55g Topre RF at home though.

I may be parting the kimono a bit much here, but most business settle on either: 1) margins via product 2) margins via shipment Most folks go for the former (i.e. 100% markup at retail), but if you cut that some and decide to go for volume instead, you've got a pretty good recipe for success. Most of the time folks go all in on the former instead of the latter and holding down a day job and then moving fully onto that when you can. But that's also probably not the right/amount of detail you were looking for.

The XDA Godspeed Set is up on massdrop for less than 12 hours and already has over 1500 purchases. Alphas are 45, mods 25. Gonna order these for sure. Only thing I'm not sure of is if I should grab an ErgoDox set as well since I'm pretty sure I'll build one sooner or later. Maybe I should just put godspeed on my pok3r and pick up another set for the ErgoDox after I actually have one.
