I don't even think you need half of them. I did like 1/5th of the Just Cause 3 stuff, and barely got five gears and I still felt like I had all the upgrades I wanted by the end.

Then again I also thought most of the upgrades were pretty useless.

I'd start looking by the lake/waterfall/village thingamajig to the northwest.

The exception is the DLC stuff where there's only a couple challenges per area so you need to ace them if you want the last tier of upgrades. You can easily get by without those, though; there's nothing new there.

Got it. A zipline there also led me to that journal across the river. My mistake was searching for a way up from the west.

Also, for the first time while playing this game, I felt like a true pro gamer. Took on a propaganda center, messily butchered the defenders, mined the whole place, threw a bunch of C4 packs, blew them all at once, grenaded a helicopter, and took out those soldiers who survived the mines with a rocket launcher, while on a zip line. Not really "put this on youtube" quality, but impressive enough, given my meager skill level.

I like both of these. Liked them in FC3 as well.

I'd like it more if AJ had a personality to speak of, and it the story wasn't so sparse compared to all the other activities, but still.

Edit - I'd really appreciate the collectathon if I could get my hands on a "spawn a gyrocopter on the spot" mod.

You can get one unlocked for your homestead once you get that far — with fast travel, it's as “on the spot” as it gets. Maybe some of the citadels have them too, once you start taking over those, but I don't remember.

So Prey (2017 one, natch) is great, but its big weakness is the combat and the enemies.

Are there games like Prey with a similar sense of exploration, discovery and progress, but without combat or with better combat? Without horror? I've obviously played my Shocks and Deus Exes, but I'm wondering if something like Soma with the harmless enemies mod would fit the bill.

What I really love about Prey is rooting through a location with an excellent sense of place, like it's something that actually exists, and where everything comes together in a logical, systemic way. You slowly grow to understand the environment and inevitably you master it, not just having new tools but having player knowledge of it as well. You could say it's Metroidvania-ish.

Subnautica's maybe in a similar vein, but not really. I'm looking for something with more man-made environments. Maybe The Long Dark, even if it's in a wilderness? The exploration tag also gave me The Witness, which I realize is a puzzle game but might have some of that same feel. Event[0]?

I'm probably asking for too much because an exploration game with top production values and no combat is pretty much a unicorn.

You might want to see what happens in two days when Tacoma is set to release. It's from the makers of Gone Home and features you wandering around a derelict space station, no combat or horror elements. It appears to be very similar in style to Gone Home where you try to piece together what happened from observation and inference.

Honestly, you generally take good combat and "basic game", or more detailed scope of game and mediocre combat. No game has managed to really put them well together. Something like Metro is about the best you get in that department with some excellent crafted environments and decent shoot-dudes, but there isn't too much in the way of player progress and it's mostly linear on rails with not much exploration other than scavanging things here and there. There also isn't too much horror but definitely some creepy areas and it's mostly just oppressive.

SOMA is good and yeah you can harmless enemy it, the enemies in that were also one of the low-points of the gamea.

The Witness is all about growing through player knowledge. There's nothing in the game you can't do right from the beginning, you just won't understand all the rules and specifics from the start. It's very much a puzzle game, there's no combat and there's no items to pick up. It's very good though.

Yeah, honestly, I wouldn't mind a "walking simulator" where you've just gotten rid of combat. I'd love one where the environment itself is your antagonist, like a malfunctioning space station where there's nothing paranormal or evil going on, just a natural disaster or an accident.

As far as I know there's nothing stopping anyone from doing this but I have a feeling Valve might change the rules if people constantly start making GBS threads out achievements for the lulz. I'm guessing he just wrote some sort of automated form filling script and just let it run for a long rear end time in the Steam backend.

The Trading Changes:
So, the changes to trading is as follows:
  • Sending gifts to your inventory or an arbitrary email address is now no longer permitted.
  • Games can only be gifted to Steam users at the point of purchase.
  • Additionally, there's now an automated block whereby if the game happens to be 10% more expensive in the recipient's country, you are blocked from gifting the game.
  • This is in addition to the blocks the publisher may have manually added to the game.

End result, gifting is a lot more difficult, and it's no longer possible to hoard games when they are cheap for future gifting [strike]or future resale[/strike]. Therefore, if you do want to trade, you'll need to check whether or not you'll be hit by the automated block (by checking prices in both the sender and recipient's countries).

Might wanna fix those 'strike' tags to 's' btw, Delusibeta :v:

How the devs are able to continue to put time into it when basically everyone who bought it paid $5 or less I'm sure is beyond me. Best ~$2.50 I ever spent. I will add that anyone who enjoyed Terraria should pickup Stardew Valley as well, different in some ways and not quite as replayable perhaps unless you feel NPC interaction was lacking in Terraria, but a great game too. I want someone to make these kinda games that are just super fuckin polished. Why's every good game gotta be retro styled graphics too?
