I missed that warloghe had a 7" this year and that NH is repressing their LPs.

Now I just have to manage to get them.

poo poo weird thing to complain about but Iron Bonehead released all the re-issues of Black Funeral's first few albums and a demo comp. This was supposed to be in July. I don't have money!

Spectral Lore revived his old band, Divine Element to release new album Thaurachs of Borsu. Much less interesting than Ayloss's Spectral Lore stuff, but the best part is this:

Thaurachs of Borsu posted:

"Thaurachs of Borsu" is the first chapter in many future ones to come, under a new and ambitious conceptual undertaking, the combination of metal with fantasy literature and world-making.

"Thaurachs of Borsu" is based on the same-titled novel written by Ayloss, which will be unveiled not long after the album release (to be followed by short stories from Antonis) set on a medieval fantasy universe envisioned by the band. The album chronicles the passage of a soldier through various levels of consciousness about the reality of war, human society and the fabric of the cosmos itself, as the gritty and daring warriors of his nation, Borsu, fight to regain their ancestral homeland from a much more powerful enemy.

I cannot wait to read that book.

I had the opportunity to se Mgla last night. Great show, probably one of the best concerts I've been to. No lighting effects, barely any movement on stage, the music really carried them.

Anyway everyone knows Mgla are great, but supporting them were Valkyrja (and Acrimonious, who I missed completely), which I hadn't listened to before. I thought they were pretty good although they, uh, look and sound a lot like Watain.

than another footnote on a postcard from nowhere,
another chapter in the handbook for exercises in futility
Good half year for black metal. In addition to what's been mentioned (Whoredom Rife, Krolok, and Jordablod in the metal thread, I believe), there's been:

Occvlta: https://occvlta.bandcamp.com/album/night-without-end

Ultra Silvam: https://ultrasilvam666.bandcamp.com/releases

Draugsol: https://draugsol.bandcamp.com/

Gjendod: https://hellthrasherproductions.bandcamp.com/album/nedstigning

Aversio Humanitatis: https://aversiohumanitatis.bandcamp.com/

And I don't know what ever happened to Domgard. Two tracks were released last year then nothing:

quote:

Like von Trier and Vinterberg, I intended to define a similar set of rules for my own music. I am known to be a creature of habit, a repetitive artist who advances mechanically into this world. Generally speaking, I experiment very little. This is why formulating and obeying such rules is not much of a challenge for me. At the time, the object of my hatred was not the Hollywood action flicks that von Trier detested so much, but the use of synthesizers and drum machines in extreme metal. I also resent contemporary recording techniques such as the over-use of punch-ins. These were the arbitrary rules I originally proposed in the aforementioned email to Luciano:

1. Rule of Sound: Only the following sounds may be used: distorted guitars, distorted bass, acoustic drums (no drum machine), high-pitched/low-pitched growls. Each one of these types of sound must be used at least once per track.

2. Rule of Recording: Each instrumental track and the vocals must be recorded in one continuous take, no segmented recording is permitted. The playback rate and the offsets of samples may not be digitally altered after they have been recorded.

3. Rule of Aggression: Each track must feature at least 30 seconds of blast beat (either traditional or hammer blast).

4. Rule of Effort: A track must be at least 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length and a release must be at least 40 minutes in length.

5. Rule of Language: The lyrics of a release must be written in a natural language (as opposed to constructed languages) and not more than one language may be used per release.

quote:

This is why the recordings are full of flaws I was unable (or unwilling) to correct. After all, it is closer to the way you would play it in front of a live audience. Mind you, I am not saying that playing live is the only true way of making music. In fact, I have never even been to a concert and my entire consumption and creation of music revolves around studio recordings.

:spergin: I don't know if I even want to hit play, it could really only be a letdown

its cool that he thinks that drum machines and keyboards are somehow false, and that black metal has to have blast beats

I purchased cannabis and LSD from European darknet markets and had some decisively negative experiences with these and other drugs; I even interrupted my work on this album for one month to draw a bizarre comic about my worst trip; I started hanging out with strangers I met on the internet and was thrown out of multiple bars in Oslo; I dabbled with online dating but quickly gave up because I am a pussy (also because of a distinct lack of insane, artsy types on mainstream dating sites). This album was certainly a memorable period of my life.
