dromal phrenia posted:Has anyone played Megadimension Neptunia VII? Humble store has a decent sale on it and it has very positive reviews but man, I've never heard of it at all and anime + "partial nudity" makes me think people might like it more for titties than for the game actually being good. As a person who has played anime tiddy games, I can promise you that the Neptunia games aren't tiddy games.

According to Guru Larry, who just did a video on this topic, UnReal World is not finished and has been in development for 26 years. UnReal World was released decades ago though. It's in active development, that's not the same thing. Nethack received a new release in late 2015, nearly 30 years after the first version was released.

Too early to tell but Grimoire has some real potential to end up being the next measurement of low player population. It peaked at 122 so far, and Battleborn has more current players by 11.

It would be one thing to work on a ridiculously niche game for 6 months, knowing full well only a handful of people will play the game. To work 20 years on something you apparently think is going to set the world on fire and be the next minecraft.... I mean, gently caress. Craziness. Even if it was a brilliant, amazing game, the number of people looking to play a modern take on the old Wizardry style games is vanishingly small.

On top of that, it's apparently a buggy mess and way too expensive, so he's gone ahead and scared off some of that niche. I mean, I'd be down for that game but at that price? With those many bugs? e: Not to mention the sound design, which, uh.

I didn't see it mentioned, but kickstarted dinosaur simulator Saurian has officially become available on Steam. Game's very cool but still really barebones at the moment, but it's worth keeping an eye on for the future.

So despite literally just bitching about procedural generation in the chat thread, I looked at Flint Hook because I remember seeing videos where the hooking mechanic and movement looked really good. Did something happen with either the game or the devs? I ask because I looked at reviews of it, and several of the recent ones aren't "mostly positive" like the rest, but are instead "mixed" (and by mixed, the reviews read really negatively). I mostly wonder because of this review that was at the top, that is literally just saying how trash the game is, while simultaneously having put 35 hours into the game

There are a couple of Grimoire streams on Twitch right now and, man -- the turning animations are so disorienting. It took me a while to figure out what was going on -- it's just scrolling left or right to a static, flat image of what you see. No attempt to make it look right at all. It's really disorienting when there's an object in the middle of the square, because you turn left, it scrolls off the screen to the right and then on from the left again, but it's the same thing. Argh, my head hurts.

The UI changes to Path of Exile are muy bueno (especially with your MTX items). They upped the amount of gems they give you in the beginning. I already have four (1 support) and I haven't even made it to the big ol' crab miniboss. I'm also thinking about making a totem-mancer. Hmm. Yeah. I'll do it. I'm going to be a totem master.

No there's still the weird crafting item barter system, but there are a couple of items the community has universally settled on as the basic level of currency so you don't really need to worry about exchange rates or anything that often.

Yeah still no gold. Have to use a third party trading site with chaos orbs being the baseline currency. Confusing at first but gets better when you use it a little.

Hey, remember that Shadow of Mordor sequel you guys were so hyped about. Honestly, that fits pretty well from the other Tribute Games I've played (which is most of them), all things considered. Tribute Games have historically been crazy grindy in a way I think is really unfun but it can take a bit to notice. You just repeat poo poo over and over in their games to get drip-fed additional content and you waste a lot of time and it... at first you think you're just getting over a hump and they only make it worse as you go on. Flinthook got a lot of positive buzz early on but this sounds a lot more like what I might have expected of it given the rest of their games. I haven't tried it, but past experience has made me really wary. Alien Rope Burn fucked around with this message at 16:14 on Aug 5, 2017 |

I understand a few hours but 35? I mean not every game is Lawbreakers where you can play it for just a few minutes before realizing it's trash but come on
