I can only really play after 8:30pm (after the kid goes to bed) and tonight has just been full of fun lag deaths. Oh wait, did I say fun? I must be tired from all the squids running through me, shooting at the wall, and then me dying despite me loading my clip into their back. Also one dude kept one-shotting me with the Tentatek Splattershot which left me scratching my head because I'm pretty sure that the gun doesn't do enough damage to OHKO? asecondduck fucked around with this message at 02:39 on Aug 8, 2017 |

I straight up admitted I sucked. I have more losses than victories and I was often last or second to last for a shitload of matches. I only just recently turned it around but I'm still paying for it. Keep on generalizing though.

I had a rainmaker match earlier (at B rank) that was a whole trainwreck where I'm pretty sure I was the only player who knew the rules of the mode. One guy grabbed it and no joke stalled out the timer on their side of the map, taking potshots at us until he died to the explosion. Others at least seemed aware that the rainmaker should be brought vaguely towards enemy base but at least one of my teammates, when presented with a clear opportunity to win, chose to hang around the goal and go for a couple of splats with the big gun. Stupid plays happen at all levels, not just the lower ones. People make mistakes after all. Also if you're wondering why you're constantly getting stuck with "people who don't know what they're doing", you might want to look in a mirror sometime. Look, the point is not that these people lack skill or that I am better than them (i would love to be the one with the most splats in these matches but that is unfortunately not true), but that they clearly don't know how the game mode works and make stupid decisions because of it. And people shouldn't be able to get out of C rank without knowing the rules. Maybe the actual lesson here is it'd be cool if the game modes were explained at all outside of a not very obviously presented help menu.

If a person somehow got lucky enough to get carried out of their proper rank, matchmaking will eventually knock them back down. The matchmaking system is fine. And if they somehow got up there themselves, then they're doing something right at the very least. Or someone else is playing on that account, they're having a very off day, or whatever. You can't really say who belongs in each rank just based off of how they play in a single match. I do agree about the tutorial part given that the rulesets are considerably different from Turf Wars, but the only one that would really need to be explained is Rainmaker. (Doesn't help the NA version of the game says "make it rain" instead of explaining that you need to reach the enemy goal.) But for the most part, the rules are pretty intuitive.

It's super easy to create a new account on the Switch, right? I double dog dare any of the goons here who are saying git gud to create a smurf account and slum it down in C rank for a bit and then still come back saying "the problem is 100% you" Because it's not. It was easy for you to rise because you got the game release day, poopsocked it to level 10, played through C and B with other poopsockers like yourself who know how to play the game because you all poured 100+ into Splatoon 1. Meanwhile, the players who were/are bad at the game that were at C when you spend through ranked are still down here in C, making GBS threads it up for the rest of us who took our time getting to level 10. asecondduck fucked around with this message at 03:05 on Aug 8, 2017 |

I also have ninja, jump speed increase, bomb defense, ink resistance, faster ink refill, more special damage, quick recovery, fast running , less loss of special when splat, and fast swim at level 16. I actually have the next few weapons, including the tri-slosh but don't like it as much. I used a couple of snails to add more to the best gear I had already rolled. The tri-slosh is objectively better than the .52 in every way - it hits further away, does more damage, and kills faster if you combine the burst bomb + the primary fire - the burst bomb is what really pushes it over the edge, land that plus the slosh and it's lights out.

Even after I hit 10 I barely played it just because I didn't feel like playing it without a tolerable set of gear to work with. I only started really getting into it recently. The only mode I had trouble getting out of C was Rainmaker, which makes sense since its harder to carry in that mode than any other. You either take the Rainmaker and have to rely on your team to protect you or you let one of them hold it and pray they aren't an idiot. In every other mode its really easy to have a big enough impact that you can rocket out of C ranks with ease if you know what you're doing. Unless you're topping the scoreboard by a significant margin in literally every game, you're not being held back by pubs. How about we leave the tri-slosher as is, but give it an ink-wall sub and the stingray super. "Okay you can have the best weapon in the game but like hell you're getting anything good to go with it."
|
# ? Aug 8, 2017 03:14 |

One of the main reasons I've been using the .52 in Turf War is because I end up dying a lot less. Whenever someone starts shooting me, I now end up killing them first a large percentage of the time. The less coverage for ink issue is something I have been dealing with okay, but the largest drawback of all for sure isn't range, as far as I can tell, but it is my sub weapon. The ball thing as my super is really fun and effective, but I'm almost training myself to avoid subs because the mist maker is so janky or I'm just not utilizing it correctly. I can definitely see how tri-Slosh would be better in ranked. I've only played a handful of ranked matches though and that's where I experienced my frustrations. I should really just throw myself in and see where it balances out before changing poo poo up just so I know where I currently stand and then try to branch out and diversify.

Trying out the Splash-o-matic, I don't think this gun is very good. I have really fond memories liking it a lot in Splatoon 1 not sure why though as I got Max Level in that game and didn't take it seriously past that. Its accuracy is nice but I don't see the advantage considering it's Two Lines of range. It also has mist which isn't as useful as burst bombs. Am I missing anything?

No I think most people would agree that it isn't very good. Toxic mist is a sub you need good range to take advantage of. I don't get why its range is so short when its stats aren't very impressive compared to other guns. The stupid aerospray goes further than it.

Meaning that every loss that you suffered was your own drat fault in some way. If a situation arises where another teammate happened to cost you the match, you could have prevented that situation from occurring in the first place. And if you think every player except yourself happens to be a drooling idiot in the current rank, that means, that means your team is stuck with 3 drooling idiots and the other team is stuck with 4. Surely the odds would be in your team's favor? If you really don't belong where you are, you'll get out eventually. It's how matchmaking in any team based works.

Generally good advice (getting mad at teammates for every loss is a great way to a) have less fun and b) stay poo poo at the game) but I really disagree with the notion that every loss is preventable, by you. Yes, that is theoretically possible, and such a player may even exist, but that player is most certainly not me. And I don't think it will ever be me no matter how much game I play.

Actually, on that note: I had two brilliant teammates with me, whenever we were down to one player alive they would swim back to a safe choke point so the dead members could jump to the alive one. We'd push it to the ramp, die, they'd push it to the center, we'd push it back to their ramp, repeat for the entire round. That one great round made up for the poo poo the rest of this night has given me.

I'll give it a chance, but a player is probably always going to be better with a weapon that works best for them rather than one that is objectively better, right? Or am I confusing real world guns with video games again? Just go into training mode, throw a burst bomb and hit fire immediately after throwing the bomb and see what happens with the tri splosher, it's pretty sweet. Realistically though most of the guns are viable and if you get kills doing what you're doing, great.

The thing with splatoon is since "health" regens pretty fast , its really easy for one player to just go on a splatting spree of chasing down one opponent after another, So its really easy with enough skill to carry an entire team. Get good enough and you can brute force your way to higher ranks, there's no rush. Alright, can someone talk up ink mines? It looks like they deal 35 damage, and tag the target. I assume you don't get the tag if they shoot the mine from range (just the free ink from the explosion). Your teammates can see the tags, but probably not your mine positioning? What are the best places to put mines? Just around corners, I guess?

I would also like to know this because I love Rapid Blaster but it has ink mines that I'm completely ineffectual at using and mostly I forget they exist. Sometimes I put one on the tower and it scares people off it when it goes off. I recently saw a sniper fortify their position in Moray Towers by laying ink mines, and that was pretty effective! Got me a few times (along with some stray shots) when I tried to go up there and teach them a lesson.

Worse range than the ridiculous Octobrush / Tri Slosher, accurate fire but tiny hitbox. There's literally no reason for this weapon to exist in the current game. Tales from S rank - Less Tri Sloshers, more Octobrushes so far. Had one game where everyone else had 12/13 kills and I had a whopping ONE, so I really dragged my team down, next game I'm dumping all over everyone easily, many of them the same players from the previous game. Sometimes the bullets just hit and everything is gravy, other times you'll unload for 4 seconds on someone and nothing happens. Sometimes you'll start a gunfight with someone and you just die the second the fight starts, other times you'll run into a group of 3 people by accident and splat them because the game feels like you didn't get hit when you actually did and totally deserved to die.
