The flashback episode was real cool, I liked that they threw in jumbling up the timeline of what was happening to be extra artsy and how Marty was so much more mild mannered than he is now, for me Bateman really sold that with a series of minor acting choices that I can't really define, but combined to view him as a whole other guy.

I wonder if the long term plan for the show is to keep it as a sort of inverse Breaking Bad. While Marty is doing some extremely criminal stuff, he still goes out of his way to treat individual people well, whereas the FBI agent is actively ruining lives in his pursuit. It would be refreshing if they didn't go the obvious route of having Marty do darker and worse things and becoming a monster.

Isn't the whole thing that Marty will eventually burn these businesses as the dirty money dries up or their books get too hot? If he becomes some venture capital hero rinsing drug money through small town businesses and making them successful long term I'm going to be very conflicted.

I Am Not A Money Launderer but he at least seems to believe he can wash the money without harming the businesses in either the short or long term. My understanding is that as soon as the money is cleaned, he can let the business slowly go back to how it was before he came in and they would hopefully not get caught.

I did, long ago, work for a guy who was laundering a lot of money through local businesses he owned (and he was caught and has already been released from prison so none of this is stuff I shouldn't be saying). He only got caught because he hosed up on paying the appropriate taxes. The businesses were seized by the IRS for a period, and then reverted to their original owners or family members of him who were unconnected to the laundering. As of this writing, all those businesses are still flourishing and have always been cited as places that revitalized the downtown area of where this happened. So

Loved this show too. Unlike breaking bad, I like all the female characters in this show. Holy poo poo that last scene with the pastor was hard to watch. That's good entertainment.

One thing that bothered me about how they were laundering money.

You need to own the contractors as well to launder thru construction. Marty never bought out any contractors.

Could've ben an oversight, could've been on purpose as to avoid teaching people how to actually launder money. Gilligan said they always had to skip steps on Breaking Bad to avoid teaching people how to cook meth.

Kinda underwhelmed that 4/4 of the family survived. Wendy and the kids all had moments that they should/could have met their tragic ends

I was actually very upset to have that happen to that character. Why did you have to call them a redneck???. Probably the most charismatic character behind Marty and Ruth.

Also did anyone else really want to visit the Ozarks after watching this series? It looks beautiful.

Harton
Jun 13, 2001

Ozarks is amazing, me and the wife have a boat and we rented a house on the lake with a dock for our honeymoon. The beauty of the place is there are so many available houses that it's super cheap to rent one for a week. Show was extra fun to watch because of that. The whole place is like a boaters paradise, we went multiple days without driving the truck and just took the boat everywhere. Dinner time and shopping? Take the boat instead of the truck, so many restaurants right on the water you can boat right up too.

Definitely enjoyed the show, I thought it started off great and only dragged a tiny bit in the middle. By the time the flashback episode happened it totally took off again. I'm glad they saved that until the 7th episode, if they would have opened with all that backstory I probably wouldn't have stayed interested. The way they played it made me really interested in the back story by the time they got around to telling it.

Just finished the show and I'm in the group of people who loved it. Someone earlier said that the show went through a few seasons worth of things in the beginning few episodes and I liked it; it showed how much of a rush the characters were in to launder the money. I think the neatest thing about the show was how fast the family was told about the criminal activities.

Ruth is the breakout character to me so far. I look forward to the Snells vs the cartel next season since I have a feeling the Snells bit off more than they could chew.

I suppose that we didn't really need it, but it helped flesh out the characters more, and it was nice to show Marty and Wendy actually getting along and being family-oriented, instead of cold business partners like they ended up being.

Bateman's reaction when the cops mention that he was lucky his daughter didn't end up falling in with the "older sister" is loving priceless.

I liked this show a lot more than I thought. I expected a Breaking Bad knockoff. It owes a show like that something but it also has its own way of measuring out its shock value.

Finished last night. Ruth is the best. I thought that the Langmore kids would just be a one off "welcome to the neighborhood!" thing in the first episode, but they never went away and Ruth won me over.

Two questions though. One, why did it make a point to show Jonah hiding the first gun behind the paint in the garage? I thought it would be important but was never mentioned again.

And B. was I just not paying attention or did Tuck buy a gun for Jonah twice? Once he hid it in the forrest, then he got him another mystery gun when Garcia showed up.

Thought this was great, first netflix show that's really gripped me. Bateman is great and I believe he could talk his way out of any possible situation. Just loved it when he tells his wife how safisfying the splat of her lover on the pavement was. and "cocksucker". and the argument with the movers on the lawn. All the other characters are good too.

The killing at the end was really shocking to see someone so confident just get taken out like that. I guess things are going to go very bad next season as you don't really mess with a cartel like that and get away with it

Nah it was just shown twice, the first time was out of chronological order, it's the same scene at the checkout which we see again when the redneck dad is there

I really loved this, especially Snell's extremely cavalier attitude towards it. Like 'Welp! Don't worry so much, we'll be fine.' Like... my god, makes me think that even with the potential trouble that's on its way isn't a match for the trouble that's already there, and hopefully we'll see that all bubble up to the surface in a very satisfying and tense way. Really looking forward to next season.

Because of the way the timeline was shifting all through that episode, constantly keeping track of what was happening when bled into the next episode and it took me a while to stop trying to figure out when everything was set.

Also, it hasn't been posted yet here, but it got picked up for a season 2.

My take on the cartel buy-in was that they would just eventually take over the entire operation anyway. It's fine to agree to go into business when you are just gonna take the small operation for everything they have, including legitimate property and businesses, in just a year or so.

Garcia disappearing and Del not really giving a gently caress did kind of seem odd and rushed over. I have a feeling Del was kind of Bruceing the cartel and Garcia actually worked for the cartel and not Del. Garcia disappearing without anything pointing to Del was probably a good thing for Del. And Marty is just too important to Del since he is Bruceing the cartel, so he is happy to just keep things going with Marty.

The Snells didn't kill Marty because they think that he is either their key to the cartel or they are going to end up making so much money off of his Riverboat Casino idea that they can't afford to lose him. Also, the Church on the Lake is kind of dead now, so they kind of need a new method of distribution.

It's a really good show and i'm echoing that Ruth is one of the best parts of the show. I'm not a big fan of Buddy's character and they really foreshadowed him being some kind of killer who would eventually murder someone on the Byrdes behalf. I have a feeling he legitimately used to work for the mob as some kind of muscle, but I doubt he killed Jimmy Hoffa.
